Hi, thanks for your videos, they are really worth watching. I live in Thailand and have a Thai wife, very beautiful and caring in all ways. I was diagnosed with cancer during Covid, I have been unlucky in that I have been fighting now since that time and just finished chemo 24 and had three major surgeries. I was clever enough, many years ago to pay Thai social security and work permit. After all, I wanted to live here and fully intergrate with my wife and Thailand. This paid for all treatments, at a Gov Hospital, they are awesome in my care.. As I recover now, doing pretty good, I came across your series, because you always have delicious food, my appetite has returned. I love eveything, village life here is the same and hey, the farang pays for all. Part of life. We live by the sea and only visit the jungle once or twice each year. The wife goes more often. Enjoy my friend, take good care Fatima, Flo (very lovely girl) and children. Top stuff.

Hey Overstay! Man, this was actually a great and very informative video! I had actually been trying to order online, a couple of lechons for people I know over there, and it is really difficult because of issues regarding purchasing with credit cards. I can talk about that forever, and it is actually a great topic for your channel. But anyway, regarding the lechon, I finally just decided to send the money to my friends there, and told them to go buy one themselves from a place they know has good lechon. Also, that way, I wouldn't be paying the "foreigner tax" because they could bargain and I couldn't!
But regarding buying things online in the Philippines, I am having a hard time believing that nobody has thought of this yet, but a great idea is for someone to offer a service or site that has things like groceries, fish, lechon, chicken, etc. Now there are plenty of sites like that in the PI, BUT, I am in the USA. I would like to be able to buy from a local place there in the PI, and just say "deliver it", paying of course, for delivery. BUT, the problem is that most PI websites are set up for Filipinos who are in the PI and NOT for people in the US. As you know, in the US, we have a different address format, with name, street, city state and zip. The PI has boranguyas, etc, a 4-digit zip, and they do not like the format of phone numbers in the US. Because when ordering via credit card, they want your billing address, which needs to match what is on file with the credit card company. You cannot put it in because the address section is designed for Filipino addresses, and most of the time, the areas for Boranguay, etc, are required and you can't just bypass them. I think it would be great if the websites there would just add a field for "country", and then when entering "US" as the country, it would then bring up a billing address field, that is suitable for american addresses. The delivery fields are ok of course, because I wanted to ship to local addresses. But if someone would come up with a site that has everything I mentioned, and make the site usable for people in the US to order from for their friends and relatives over there, well, they would make a fortune!
Anyway, as always Mark, I bought both of your books a while back and I can highly recommend both of them! And Fatima's hair looked AWESOME in this video!

I remember going to the Philippines in 2019 when I had a girlfriend there they said they're going to buy a pig and I chipped in on it and I thought it was going to be chopped up meat. They bring this pig back with a potato sack or something over its head it was alive 😂

this use to happen in the U.S.A until the 90's if i remember correctly.
Good advice, but do you think about that when you buy street food? Could be double dead (fried) chicken haha. While standards are considered better in some places, I would still bet it happens everywhere even in the US. Not having a term or not being caught in the act isn't evidence of it not happening, I'm sure you've watched Gordons kitchen nightmare show, where some places cooked rotting food. Mad cow disease and road kill venison also come to mind in the US.

7k is what we paid for the hog live, that was in oct. My gf negotiated before I showed up, and when they saw me they tried to go up on price, We got it for the 7k, because I told them lets go we will get it elsewhere.

Touring around Cambodia, guess what you find. Most often a truck with about 200 pigs that's rolling out stinge, and if you hit a mouth at the wrong time. You don't want to be following that, truck a motorcycle toward most of Cambodia. And this was a very common thing to avoid ..passing around the shoulder. Or wherever just pass them.
Just imagine the smell and 100° temperature... Then envision getting sprayed With piss 😢

At my wife’s dad’s death anniversary the foreigner price was $220 and her family bought the pig and then had to find someone to prepare it. When it arrived we noticed that it was missing meat that they took for themselves but her family seemed to shrug it off like it was ok! A little shocked myself but I was wondering if this is common practice there.A lot of shady practices there in the Philippines it seems with your double dead story! By the way air-cons leaking inside is common there I went a few weeks with one doing this in Leyte on my stay there.
Even though the pig might look healthy trichinosis runs rampant in that make sure the meat is cooked thoroughly all the way to the bone

Mark next time have a pig and let your Father in law look after the pigs and sell them as well for income and have him enjoy the project it’s therapeutic for him and Grandma. Fatima next time you go to the village please organise your people to make sure the yard is nice and clean please cut the grass and make the place look nice, your husband does a good job looking after everybody in the village. Your house is clean and there is no mushroom growing on the bamboo table I noticed Mark didn’t like it . Keep the good work you are doing in the new house again but a clean washing basket to put washed clothes rather than Flo fishing the clothes and put them on that nice table. I love you all.

It's less $ per lb for a live pig as opposed to the the hanging weight price per lb. That farmer is not going to slaughter the pig for you and take less money than he would have gotten selling you a live pig. That doesn't make sense. Talk to the farmer
And $2 / lb live weight is a good price
