    one of the best team in history. Isles since 1975 became stronger and stronger. Al Arbour is genius

      One of the greatest teams of all time in any sport. Perhaps the greatest team ever assembled in the history of the NHL. Certainly, without question, the greatest hockey team ever assembled in the USA.

    Oh I agree with you, the Islanders had a lot better team than the Oilers, a more complete team, no weakness at all.

    Bossy easily could have won the Conn Smyth with his 35 points, but Goring had an amazing final.

    Question : The Islanders won 4 Cups in a row. Any other team win 4 in a row?
    Answer: None. Canadiens did it. 1976-79 & five times (1956 -60)
    Now with 30 teams in the league. I don't see it happening in my lifetime.

    Love it the way the Islanders grabbed Mike McEwen from the Rockies that year and he was such a big factor on the backline for them.

    If SportsChannel rebroadcasts this game using the CBC telecast with Bob Cole, does that mean the original local SportsChannel telecast of this game (prob with Jiggs McDonald) was lost?

    • @jpwjr1199
      @jpwjr1199 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      billny33 I believe (I could be wrong) that in both the 1980 and 1981 final, as well as the 1979 final with the Rangers the year before, the local cable channels in the NY metro area (HBO/MSG for the Rangers and the newly formed Sportschannel 3 for the Isles) used simulcasts of the CBC feed for the home games of those series. It was a long time ago, and I truthfully can't remember and am going by what I was told by someone my age who actually had cable at the time, but I believe that's the case. I know that CBS/Hughes picked up game 6 of the 1980 finals, but I believe that's the exception. I do know that starting in 1982, Jiggs M. and Ed Westfall broadcasted every game throughout the playoffs and Sportschannel had exclusive rights to home games.

    • @jpwjr1199
      @jpwjr1199 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      billny33 Then again, I've seen a Sportschannel interview with Billy Smith after the final game of the 1981 final, so I could be incorrect. I do remember, even after that season, that many of the interviews post game/post series were flipped between the CBC feed and the local feed, so it is possible that Sportschannel arranged for post game interview coverage and not actual game coverage. It's way too long ago.

    Even though I'm an Oilers fan through and through, I'd have to agree with you. I do believe that the Islanders were one of if not the best dynasty teams ever. Sure the Oilers won more cups (if you think sbout it, the oilers basically won the cup in 94 as well), appeared in the finals more times (thus winning more conference championships), set more records, lasted longer in terms of overall performance, but lets remember, the Isles won four straight!

  • @mrgabels
    @mrgabels 15 ปีที่แล้ว

    why is this guy even dissing this team in terms of the 1980's ? Fact remains no matter how bad you think the Islanders were, they still won those Stanley Cups.
    You can call everyone names and Diss the NY Islanders all you want, fact is, they won those years.
    Fast forward to this generation and lifetime, you could debate on how much they do suck, then again, when the team had Yashin and Peca the team was still a force.

  • @RajahFaceless
    @RajahFaceless 15 ปีที่แล้ว

    As a Rangers fan you're in no place to talk about anything involving the Isles organization.
    a) The building sucks, yeah.
    b) Wang has no intention of moving the team, have you ever heard of a freaking bargaining chip?
    c) That's insulting. Average attendance may be low, but the fact that they still have 13,000 fans going to every game to see such a terrible team shows that the fans are anything but fair-weather.

  • @ekimfloom
    @ekimfloom 15 ปีที่แล้ว

    The problem is that in Wang's mind he sees more lettuce by turning ( in a future economy ) the entire Turnpike area into something it was never meant to be. And hockey has nothing to do with the plans. I hate the fact that we have 'players for hire' in all sports that diminishes traditional rivalries. I think it's great for hockey to have a team in Columbus, but I remember the abject failures of the Kansas City Scouts & Cleveland Barons ( can LeBron skate too??? ).

  • @JohnathanTravolta
    @JohnathanTravolta 16 ปีที่แล้ว

    I agree I had an argument with at least three of my friends over this same subject. Somehow the fact that they won these four in a row always is said and is their best point. They are very proud of it and they should be. It's all they have right now. Then I ask them who is the better team right now in 2008 and they say the rangers but can't say that without saying that they won the cup four times.

  • @ekimfloom
    @ekimfloom 15 ปีที่แล้ว

    a) thanks for agreeing
    b) thanks for disagreeing
    c) The Isles couldn't outdraw, Columbus, Nashville, Atlanta or Phoenix! Are you kidding me???? Not to mention every other team in the league! 13K is an abomination and an embarrassment!
    See you in in the midwest when wacko-Wang takes your shit team to his home base....

    I am glad I found this with Al Arbour getting to coach his 1500th game with the Isles tonight. I remember this like it was yesterday. Between the US Olympic Gold Medal in 1980 and then the Isles 4 straight cups it felt like Championships were a New Yorkers birthright. Islanders Army thanks for this and all the other great vids

  • @jpwjr1199
    @jpwjr1199 15 ปีที่แล้ว

    lol...Well, seriously, if you're a hockey fan, and remember what the Islander-Ranger rivalry once was, you'd have to agree that the Islanders need management committed to winning and keeping the team on Long Island without needing to develop the NVMC land for purposes other than the hockey team

  • @JohnathanTravolta
    @JohnathanTravolta 16 ปีที่แล้ว

    people...can't you see we are New Yorkers we may not like eachothers hockey teams but because we are rivals we are closer than two hockey teams...and I know I may sound gay right now but deep down it's true and I am relating to Islander fans when I say go rangers...GO RANGERS!.

    I would take the Candiens, Islanders and Oilers of that era over any hockey team today. PERIOD
    They didnt play the sissified brand of hockey back then. It was tough. But there was sportsmanship and dedication to the team.

    I'm an Oilers fan but that doesn't mean i don't like checking out other great teams in history. This is a pretty kool video and we'll neve see two dynasty's clash again in history. I ment the 82'83-83'84 finals. Nice vid.

  • @jpwjr1199
    @jpwjr1199 17 ปีที่แล้ว

    KNS is right. ESPN showed hockey, but had little to no coverage of the playoffs. This telecast is from CBC and Sportschannel had exclusive rights to all Islanders home games in the US during the 1980-1981 playoffs.

    Thank you for posting these wonderful videos. This was an awesome series the Islanders were spectacular and the North Stars played a series to be proud of even though they didn't win it. A hockey fan couldn't have asked for anything better then this. This Islanders team had team spirit and class. This my friends is hockey. The way it was meant to be played not like todays passing and no shooting game.
