God your reactions reminded me why I LOVE rock and roll. The energy, the passion, the fighting spirit. Love it soooooo much. Sometimes if I'm stuck in a rut, I just listen to songs like this and get myself motivated. :)
This song was a response to Courtney Love's claims that Dave Grohl, the drummer of Nirvana and lead singer of Foo Fighters, used Kurt Cobain's suicide as a jumping point for his band's fame, even though Courtney attempted the same with her band Hole, so Dave wrote this song and it became a massive hit Edit: this is second hand info, more accurately I got it from a WatchMojo video, so if you have a more reliable source, please do feel free to correct me
In a 2007 interview with XFM, frontman Dave Grohl stopped short of explaining the meaning behind "The Pretender", but alluded its roots go to current political unrest. Grohl noted: "That's the thing with lyrics, you never want to give away specifics, because it's nice for people to have their own idea or interpretation of the song. But, you know, everyone's been fucked over before and I think a lot of people feel fucked over right now and they're not getting what they were promised, and so something to do with that."
There is actually proof, that Courtney killed Kurt herself, there were no fingerprints on the gun and he probably was too high to wipe them away, and other stuff like that. Not definitive proof, but still interesting. Especially after I saw this
I’ve been listening to the Foo Fighters since I was 4 years old. My parents introduced me to them. They were my first concert when I was ten, and I was front row in a venue of 1400 people. I’ve seen them multiple times since then. I love seeing stuff like this, awesome reaction. 👍🏻😁
"Turn it up." Me: That's a bad idea. *Seconds later* Yep, that was the face I was expecting lol (Edit: Maybe it's me, but I loved how LayedBak usually stops to comment on the lyrics. But this one had him rocking too hard!)

When it comes to volume, one of the things rock always prided itself on was dynamics, it's ok for music to be low and then build, hip hop went a different direction with over compression to compete on the radio so everything is normalised, with rock, enjoy the dynamics as part of the craft

I love the fact that the second voice is the drummer. Mans going ham on the drums. Using everything he has and then adding his own vocals to it. I know I’d die trying to sing and drum.
He has full songs, where he does all the vokals while playing the drums (live as well), even has his own band, where he is just drummer and singer. As in they have no other singer then him, and he does full sets of drumming an singing ^^ in FF they actually sometimes switch up, dave on the drums and taylor on the mic. It's frickin amazing

The “different energy” in this that you’re talking about I think is your first real exposure to that punk energy. Foo Fighters are not a punk band, and this is not a punk song, but punk music is in its DNA for sure. If you wanna deep dive that a little I highly recommend for you some Bad Brains, some Minor Threat, Rage Against The Machine, maybe some Fever 333 songs, Mindset, Stiff Little Fingers, Snapcase, fuck there’s too many good ones to name just now
I saw them in Ireland a few years back and it was pouring rain and felt like it was 10 degrees outside but they pumped everybody up. Absolutely insane 🤟🏻
Hey, talking about the layered bit, Taylor on the drums backs him on vocals there, you GOT TO see them do this live... Seen them around 17 times live, maybe more, never gets old. Love the screen effect on the drop..noice!

HAHAHAH NICE I REMEMBER SEEING THAT ONE
I am a HUGE Foo Fighters fan and it made me so happy to see how much you enjoyed and appreciated this track!
Yours is a voice that is needed. Rock is for everybody its music you feel.
Great songs to react to from them:
Everlong
Walk
Learn to Fly
Long Road to Ruin
Times like These
find myself agreeing with all of these although there is 1 iconic song missing. All my life.
Wheels
I love this list
"These Days" is really good to
How about Run?
My favorite thing is watching hip-hop heads react to my favorite songs lmao
*watches him turn up this headphones* knowing what is coming- “just wait”
Bro this reaction made my day, you're so authentic brotha, I appreciate all you do in your content, much love
This song was a response to Courtney Love's claims that Dave Grohl, the drummer of Nirvana and lead singer of Foo Fighters, used Kurt Cobain's suicide as a jumping point for his band's fame, even though Courtney attempted the same with her band Hole, so Dave wrote this song and it became a massive hit
Edit: this is second hand info, more accurately I got it from a WatchMojo video, so if you have a more reliable source, please do feel free to correct me
Dave has always made it clear how he feels about Courtney so I wouldn't be surprised.
I’ll stick around is the song written about Courtney Love
Especially after I saw this
So it’s anti cop...fuckin great, one of my childhood favorites fuckin ruined by bullshit politics
Everyone who's seen that music vid before waiting for him to react to the red background explosion.
Marshmallow fluff Monster that’s exactly what I was thinking!!
@@Flashblackyc4 great minds think alike 🤛🤛
I’ve been listening to the Foo Fighters since I was 4 years old. My parents introduced me to them. They were my first concert when I was ten, and I was front row in a venue of 1400 people. I’ve seen them multiple times since then. I love seeing stuff like this, awesome reaction. 👍🏻😁
Foo Fighters is one of my favorite bands, love seeing you react to them. They are fire.
"Turn it up."
Me: That's a bad idea.
*Seconds later* Yep, that was the face I was expecting lol
(Edit: Maybe it's me, but I loved how LayedBak usually stops to comment on the lyrics. But this one had him rocking too hard!)
he rocked so hard on chop suey i wouldn't be suprised if he had a concussion after man
If you want more Foo Fighters:
"Hey, Johnny Park!"
"This is a call"
Pretty much all of "The Color and the Shape" as well. If you like these guys, you should also check out Queens of the Stone Age.
He should do "No one Knows" first if he starts QotSA
Huge ups for a QotSA reaction, I'd love to see that. Most people start with No one Knows or My God is the Sun
qotsaaaaaa
...and yet, I'd suggest starting with something like "smooth sailing" instead, as it's fun and funky as hell.
When it comes to volume, one of the things rock always prided itself on was dynamics, it's ok for music to be low and then build, hip hop went a different direction with over compression to compete on the radio so everything is normalised, with rock, enjoy the dynamics as part of the craft
One of the few actual effing rock bands that are still around. Foo absolutely rules. You just can't go wrong with them.
Foo Fighters = Kings of Modern Rock and Roll and Dave Grohl is a legend.
Chase absolutely
I'm an Alter Bridge fan but I don't disagree with this. Foo is King.
id say that homme takes that crown
The last rock band
RIP Taylor hope you are rocking the heavens with your music
He’s going to freak when he figures out the Nirvana connection
Everyone freaked out when they found out about the Nirvana connection
Not really, when I found out I just though “oh yeah, that’s interesting”.
@@imdamo8006 yeah same but it makes him more of an icon.
Audioslave - Show me how to live
dude i discovered it couple of days ago and its on repeat since. RIP Chris.
And Cochise
@@shahabb1675 thanks to me right?
And Like a stone
@@franknabozny6062 lol, i was listening to cochise and it came up after( for some reason foo fighter's pretender always was playing as the next video everytime i listened to cochise but this time show me how to live came up)
Taylor's passing was a major heartbreak for those who love rock and Foo Fighters. R.I.P.
You cant listen to this without everlong. One of the greatest ever.
This was the song that got me into rock music. 😊
🤙
Love watching the younger cats discovering the great ones. The song has a great message, and the anger only emphasizes the meaning behind it.🤘
They go hard! He fell off the stage and broke his leg(?)
Came back out in a chair and finished the concert!
“Imma turn the volume up”
His eardrums: “WHY DO YOJ CONTINUE TO MAKE THIS MISTAKE THAT PAINS ME!!!!”
Instant regrets
I love seeing someone who has had a completely different walk of life and different exposure to music to me finding such genuine joy out of music that I was brought up with. Really enjoy you reacting to rock music
The Sky is a neighborhood, one of my favorites by the foo fighters. Must listen to🔥🔥
I love the fact that the second voice is the drummer. Mans going ham on the drums. Using everything he has and then adding his own vocals to it. I know I’d die trying to sing and drum.
The drummer is Taylor Hawkins. He is awesome!
Listen to The Warning - Survive; you may thank me later
@@christian95421 impressive!
If you can find it, he does an amazing version of Queens Under Pressure at the lives shows, and he has phenomenal vocals
The fact that he hasn't heard this song till 2020 actually blows my mind.
How beautiful is to see someone enjoying this piece of art in these times
Loved this song since ive heard it the first time .
Imagine how many record sales there would be if people would just expand their horizons on music. Is why I listen to everything. 🤘
"done pleading ignorance, that whole "defence" " is one of the best lines in music and LayedBak didn't pull it. love you bro, catch it next time.
Found your channel because of this song and I'm glad I did - we had the same reaction to this song. One of my favorite songs in a long time. I'm all subscribed up so bring the content and keep me entertained! Love the channel!
Rest in Peace Taylor Hawkins! I'm devastated by his death. Foo Fighters won't be the same.
God I'd love to see his reaction to Dave playing parts like in "Learn To Fly" or "Run" or "Walk" especially "Walk"
It's amazing to see people enjoying any and all genres of music. Any style can make you feel. Embrace them all
The “different energy” in this that you’re talking about I think is your first real exposure to that punk energy. Foo Fighters are not a punk band, and this is not a punk song, but punk music is in its DNA for sure. If you wanna deep dive that a little I highly recommend for you some Bad Brains, some Minor Threat, Rage Against The Machine, maybe some Fever 333 songs, Mindset, Stiff Little Fingers, Snapcase, fuck there’s too many good ones to name just now
tickbox nirvana were punk rock, probably the inspiration
Louis__keys Nirvana were grunge.
fever 333!!! i wanna see him react to them now
13Tyres Yes, but in fairness Grunge is HEAVILY influenced by Punk and punk culture, so it’s not inaccurate
@@tickbox_ I agree 100% . I'm just a pedantic mofo. Keep safe 🤟
React to the singer breaking his leg, going to get a cast, and get back on stage on pain meds and finish the show.
That’s bad ass...
If you ever “Trash” a Foo Fighters song I will instantly unsubscribe! They are rock legends!!! Glad you’re doing some FF.
They do have a few songs I don't like but foo fighters are an amazing band up there in my top 5
They are a pretty mediocre band, very professional, but mediocre material. They have a couple very strong tracks though, like this one
They are good, but very few solid songs. This is one of them
@@BigTadger *ahem* Wheels
I got goosebumps watching you, watch this for the first time and LOVING IT!!
Everlong, monkey wrench, best of you, walk and wheels all great songs by them
Do everlong by the foo fighters
I f#cking live this song. Always gets the blood pumping. Makes you feel like you could run a marathon and still keep going
Honestly, you crack me up. I’m from the UK and I grew up with this kind of music. I found you from your Eminem content, which is fire! And all your breakdown of Rap videos. However, this is just the tip of the Ice burg your touching.
You should check out: All I Want- by A Day To Remember. 🔥
Carry on the amazing work bud!
Same here foo fighters deftones system of a down was kind of stuff I know and love, I'm from Scotland like
"I'll stick around" is a great song by Foo Fighters
It's about courtney love
Spent a night watching your videos and I'm going through all the songs that hit the nostalgic notes, you have a clean review and reaction to these songs, don't hold too long to talk about anything, but when you pause you say what you need and explain it easily and it makes me happy.
Feel like I'm enjoying songs with a friend that I'm introducing something I'm passionate about
You have a good format, I love it
Foo Fighters are lightyears ahead of anything Nirvana could even imagine.
@Trashthlete SA represent!!!!
Don't forget he went a slightly different direction as well afterwards. But without Nirvana we wouldnt of had a lot of different types of music. Most of it would still be considered Underground.
Don't get me wrong, The foo's are one of my favourite bands of all time however I prefer Nirvana and it's unlikely we would even know the Foo Fighters without Nirvana. Dave's even said it himself
@@solomonster747 and we wouldn't even know of nirvana without dave grohl.
@@thomasjenkins7506 I 100% agree. Nirvana would not have been as big without Dave. He is a master on the drums and as a musician in general
"This is fire....and welcome back to ASMR..." = me dying. Well done.
Aaaajhh yes the energy a good rock song hits you with the first time you hear it. Nostalgia
You missin the bars in this one. "Im whats left, im whats right, im the enemy."🔥🔥🔥
I think this went over some people's heads. Awesome bar
