    Reminds me of when Crunchyroll claimed to donate to Japanese animators. But like Pippa said, it’s very easy to lie about that stuff on the regular. At the time of that stream, I pointed out how the agency is debuting the same about of talents that Phase currently has 3 years after Phase’s inception. That’s not a good sign at all, and I really don’t see this going very far.

    • @Duamerthrax
      @Duamerthrax 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      Why would CR donate to Japanese animators? Shouldn't they just be paying them through their licenses anyway? Donations can be tracked, but corpo donations rarely have a long lasting impact. If you want to support a cause, donate directly instead of giving some middleman a tax write off.

    Vtubing is not "big brother" the television show. A vtuber company treating it like one, is just going to lead to what happened with niji en. Over and over and over again. Yes, vtubers in an agency are co-workers, but they should not be pitted against each other over KPI's like it was a bloody call center.

    • @Th3Kingism
      @Th3Kingism 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Exactly, it just breeds negativity and could probably make a bullying culture like people have speculated about in Niji EN. Your talents need to actually like one another and work together. Every time you buy someone's merch in Phase you help them and the company overall. Ideally it should be all the talents, owner, and managers working to make the company grow and help the talents achieve some of the things they want from entertaining so many people.

    • @Duamerthrax
      @Duamerthrax 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@Th3Kingism It really depends. For Pippa's 3.33 merch sale, there was the item that included her genmates and her genmates got a cut of that one. Basically, if their image is on it, they get a direct cut. If not, it goes to the general company coffer and their wage. It does sound like they get a base pay on top of merch and superchat cuts. Shiina managed to negotiate an extra $50 a month to pay for everyone's gym membership.

      Who knows. Bad companies have a shorter and shorted life expectancy nowadays. Too many good vtubers have seen the horror stories and talk to each other behind the scenes at this point for shitty CEOs to get away with stringing along good talents for very long. My prediction is either Nuxus will dissolve within a year or they change their business model. They're gonna loose a lot of talents regardless. How many managers do they even have? • @HyattHyatt3179
      @HyattHyatt3179 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The biggest reasons for joining a small/new/bad corpo are 1. Your gemmates, some people want to find friends and other vtubers to grow alongside.
      2. The revenue, if you're not doing good as an indie it may be worth joining even a low paying agency to have some type of income.
      3. The marketing, if you're in an agency you're more likely to pull viewers and build a community simply for being in said agency, and they can pay for professional marketing and make you more visible than you were as an indie.
      The marketing being the biggest reason if it's a bad agency. You can join for a year or two, and then bring a large chunk of your community back to your indie account once you do quit.
      They probably don't actually care for the talents (which is a warning sign for me) and don't mind some of them failing as long as the few who get big, get really big. That may also be a part of why there's so many of them. Out of 27 people at least one should get reasonable numbers.

      @@joshbetts7618 I’d argue that, among corpo VTubers, competition typically happens more between different companies than between individual streamers. An agency’s streamers establishing chemistry and playing off of it will draw people to that agency. That’s one reason corpos are often encouraged to collaborate with others within their agency rather than with indies or streamers from rival companies.

      @@joshbetts7618 yes, but there more resourses exist in a company than simply view time and direct donations, that's what separates corpo from indie afteral.
      True, we don't know how it works behind the scene, but in Phase from what we seen they have independent marketing budget, that goes all over the place, no matter the size of their channels (wasn't that Michi given Shibuya Vision add some time before JP gen?). Plus they have some project budget for music and stuff (Amber's vocal classes come from there too, I assume) that seem to be split in "first come - first served" type of way (Which led to Lumi and Rie taking most of it and being manuanly restricted by Sakana).
      As a result... what's the point in being at the top? What is there to compete for inside of company? Outside competition is already more than enough, no need to make it even harder.

    • @Duamerthrax
      @Duamerthrax 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@joshbetts7618 Do you really think Pippa would be happy if her success met her genmate's failure? You say she's at the top and you're right, but has she really taken advantage of that? She only has two outfits and a couple of novelty alt models. Tenma and Lumi have a lot more models. She doesn't really throw her weight around and the general workplace culture seems to be about group success. Dizzy has stated she favors JP clips for PhaseWeekly because she thinks they deserves more viewers. The company's job isn't to "trim fat", it's to find the audience for your talent's special skills. They could have picked any of the more "Idol-like" talents for AnimeExpo, but they're going with Uruka for a concert performance.
      Also, a lot of people found Phase through a Pippa clip, but wouldn't have stuck around for her for very long. But many, many people found a different Phase member they like and stuck around for them. If Phase had the Nexus model, Pippa wouldn't be linking to her coworker's channels on her channel. I'm currently watching Lulu Lasso after she showed up in Pippa's chat last night and it's weird. There's no links to any other Nexus talent on her Twitch channel and only 13 of the 27 talents are on her yt page.

    Pippa is right when she says she probably shouldn't be talking about this. Especially because this could be construed as a corpo v. corpo move. The Nexas talents are still small and relatively unknown. I only know the lasso and sheep girl. They probably don't have a lifeline like other ex-corpo vtubers do. At this point, hurting this corpo's rep is hurting their talents' growth. Some might even be planning to leave Nexas as soon as they get a stable viewership.

      Miko was unpopular and heavily considered quitting before she had her moment that she managed to capitalize into her current status. Many such stories in holo that shows what they all need is that spark. Maybe they needed time to develop their interaction with their audience or maybe they messed to figure out something about themselves that would be appealing.
      The idea of survival of the fittest only works if they're all very similar to each other. The reality is that they all have different schedule, different personalities, different game preferences, different strength and weaknesses, etc. If you have multiple talents doing the exact Same thing with minor differences, they would cannibalize each other.
      One of the biggest underrated lesson you can learn from holo is that it's a relay race, not survival of the fittest. Sora had to persevere before she got the Christmas miracle. Then fubuki start carrying the baton and adding gamers. Then pekora's gen came and grew the company massively. None of them are useless, they all just need their time. Just like how aki was stagnating for a long time before she got her chance with ark and gta online.

      I don't think so, it's just common sense that you don't pit your employees (like your talents) against each other, to avoid self-sabotage. Since corporate leaders not always have common sense due to upward failing, they think internal competition will lead to great things.
      While I haven't heard about any actual VTuber worker cooperative, I've heard about multiple people chipping in to the same manager and lawyer combinations (worked out well, save for the drama due to human reasons), and the "worker coop-like" groups (where sometimes some people gained too much power, then they started to erode the group).
