Unique, relatable, incredible. Too Much Monkey Business, Reelin' & Rockin', You Never Can Tell. Dayum. As a white boy from country Australia... this is the brother that made me pick up a guitar. What a legend, always loved and massively influential beyond people's dreams.
Son, you are 100% right about Chuck's performance. Y'all keep our heritage alive - Chuck duck-walked Black guitarists right on into the history books. Nobody could do what he did then or today!
Chuck's expression says it all...he was completely content and happy doing his thing and it rubs off on people. That's the part of music that is contagious and makes someone famous.
A true legend, The Godfather of Rock N Roll !!! If you want to see the kind of respect Chuck had check out the live video of Chuck and Bruce Springsteen at the Rock N Roll hall of fame concert. Bruce was in complete awe of being on the same stage.
The very first poet laureate of rock as well as being the single most influential guitarist on the British invasion guys. He was the greatest, hands down.
Great song I remember doing like an almost swing dance to this song, it really gets you moving, even now I'm in my chair moving my legs, my arms are going, ty I needed motivation today.
A pure entertainer and musician!!! He's influenced so many musicians, you might as well quit counting. I got to meet him once on a flight from LA to STL. His "My Dingaling" from later in his career is hilarious, especially if you watch the live version where he gets the whole crowd in on the fun.
Considering he's the father of rock and roll and influenced EVERYONE we consider legends today it's amazing. If I didn't know I'd have assumed he'd of had loads of them
In 1977, NASA launched two spacecraft - Voyager 1 and 2 - to explore Jupiter, Saturn and FAR, FAR BEYOND. Each carried a 12-inch gold plated record that contained music, sounds and images picked to represent the great diversity of life on Earth. The idea was maybe one day extraterrestrial life far away would stumble on the records and learn something from us. Chuck Berry's "Johnny B. Goode'" was embedded with the likes of: Beethoven's; Fifth Symphony; Stravinsky's' Rite of Spring; and Bach's, Brandenburg Concerto No. 2. No other rocker made the cut (not the Beatles, not Elvis, not the Stones, not Hendrix, Joplin, or Morrison). This song is literally "far out" among the stars. Now that's immortality. Who knows, maybe a billion years from now some alien being will be tapping their tentacle to Johnny B. Goode?
You gotta get a Chuck Berry greatest hits cd. There is nothing Chuck Berry can do bad and no one can even try to sound like Chuck Berry. Every time I hear him, it makes me cry. He is so good and it takes me back to my childhood and nobody I mean nobody can keep their feet still listening to Chuck Berry. He is the pride of America.
Proud to say I live near where Little Richard was born in Macon Georgia which is also home of the Allman Brothers {The Big House museum} who made southern rock famous & all the greats like Molly Hatchet, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Charlie Daniels, Marshall Tucker, Elvin Bishop, Wet Willie, Dilbert McClinton & many others recorded a lot of their albums at Capricorn Studios
@@chicochi3 I know who the mother of R&R is --Sister Rosetta Tharpe. You can tell where Chuck got his guitar skills from. I don't know who the father of R&R is. But Berry is too late on the timeline to qualify.
If you want to know how blues turned into rock, then the first names anyone needs to see are Big Mama Thornton, Chuck Berry, and Little Richard, and then Jerry Lee Lewis. Without those names, we wouldn't have rock. All the big names that were pioneers of the genre - Elvis, the Everly brothers, Buddy Holly - they followed the lead of those four. It's no coincidence that several of the Beatles' first songs were Chuck berry covers.
How wonderful to see you and your brothers digging to some of the greatest music of all time. Too often forgotten are the great artists Gene Vincent and Eddie Cochran. Gene had a big hit with Be-Bop-a- Lula (the first record Paul McCartney ever bought) and Eddie had big hits with Summertime Blues and Somethin' Else. I know there are some great videos on youtube of these classics. Thanks, Jamel!
He still lived in the St Louis area before he passed. He'd go to the different casinos and performed at them quite often as well as Blueberry Hill in the Loop in St Louis. There's the Duck Room where he would perform there (pretty much named after the Duck Walk that he'd always do). I met him at the one I worked at, but never went to one of his concerts there. When he was there, we couldn't bother him (which is understandable), but did get to talk to him numerous times when he was there.
chuck berry was the man who turned r&r into teenage americana: highschool, cars and drive ins. with songs like "maybelene," "sweet little 16," "back in the usa," "30 days," "roll over beethoven," "you can't catch me," "little queenie" and "school days" his music celebrated american teenage life in the 50s. he also helped bring the guitar into the forefront of r&r while the sax and the piano were used most often as the go to instruments. he predated elvis and little richard by about a year. the beatles and the british invasion revived his career and in the 60s he was still writing r&r classics like "let it rock," "you never can tell," "no particular place to go" and "the promised land" which he wrote while in prison. the odd, and sad thing is his only number one hit was a crude novelty song from the early 70s called "my ding-a-ling." berry songs also made great covers for other artists. the beatles "roll over beethoven," dave edmunds' "the promised land" and linda rondstadt's "back in the usa" are just 3 great examples.
The Belgian TV show dates from 1965, not 1958. That doesn't detract from this man's utter brilliance in any way. I was lucky to see him in the UK 3 times on that European tour. The greatest solo performer I've ever seen.

Chuck Berry is the original guitar hero. Angus Young says he inspired him and that's why Angus does his duck walk while playing in homage to Chuck Berry.
Jamal, check out Chuck Berry, playing Johnny B Good with Bruce Springsteen in 1995, at the rock and roll hall of fame concert, Chuck still had his moves down.
Hey Jamal. This is Ted Walli. Love your show man. Oldschool all day!! Was thinking of a group for you to check out, Canned Heat. Maybe watch 1969 Woodstock Boogie full version video on TH-cam. Another good one is Rollin And Tumbling from Monterey Pop Festival 1967. I think you’ll dig it.
If Elvis is the King, Berry is the Emperor because he was an infinitely better guitarist. When Berry performed JBG with Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, the Boss was so busy fanboying that he almost forgot to play.

one of the founders
True that
My Grandmother and crazy Aunt B were this generation. We used to have wild parties to Chuck Berry when they were in their 70's.
This television show was in my country (Belgium) - The real King of R&R. His attitude alone kills it!
The studio was in Waterloo, where I lived in the 1970s. It’s a pretty conservative place.
Funny, I’m watching this on my dads 83rd birthday and Chuck was one of his favorites. My dad being a Japanese guy from Hawaii.
