- Donzi Racing Power Boats - Dominating Offshore Manufacturers. 6 Boats, 8 Championships - Every Donzi 38 ZR Competition put on a racecourse has won a National or World Championship and at times both. The Following race footage shows the following teams road to domination:
Team Donzi Custom & Racing (2002)
Title: 2002 APBA Factory 2 National Champions
Introduced in 2002, the groundbreaking design of the 38ZR Competition incorporated advanced hydrodynamics and the latest composite structural technology. Going head to head on the APBA offshore race circuit against virtually every major manufacturer, the ZR immediately began proving its dominance.
The first ZR race boat entered into APBA competition was the "Team Donzi" Factory 2-class boat, #F2-93. As the Donzi factory entry, driver Doug Valentine and throttleman Mike Stancombe hit the water running, racking up first place wins in Cape Cod, Savannah, and Grand Bahama Island; along with second-place finishes in Daytona, Marathon, and Cleveland.
This much-heralded return to racing was a triumphant one, as Team Donzi won the APBA Factory 2 National Championship in its inaugural year, setting the stage for a multi-year winning streak by Donzi's dominating new racer.
Team Donzi Custom & Racing (2003)
Title: 2003 APBA Super Vee National Champions
Boldly upping the ante for the 2003 season, Donzi set their sights on the highly competitive Super Vee class, with the stated goal of claiming another Championship prize.
As it turned out, Donzi did just that. Steve Simon, Donzi's VP of High Performance and Racing, recruited world champion throttleman Lee Murray and paired him with Donzi's own reigning National Champion driver Doug Valentine. Simon and Donzi then produced a closed-canopy 38ZR equipped with twin Mercury Racing 525 engines and specially rigged for Super Vee competition. The red #193 "Team Donzi - Racing for a Cure" Super Vee (running in support of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) immediately emerged from the 13-boat Super Vee pack with its combination of balance, speed, and maneuverability.
By the Marathon, FL race in May, Team Donzi found themselves atop the APBA Super Vee points standings - a position they would not surrender for the duration of the season. With a series of convincing finishes, Team Donzi's lead in the points standings ballooned to a nearly-untouchable 110 point margin over the closest competitor en route to clinching the 2003 National Championship.
Team Snap On / Talk'n Tools
Title: 2003 APBA Factory 2 National Champions
2005 APBA / UIM Factory 2 World Champions
The husband-and-wife team of Brian and Wilma Ross - perennial fan favorites in their #F2 -46 "Snap On - Talk'n Tools" Donzi 38ZR - joined the Donzi family in 2002. Their red and yellow racer was actually the second 38 ZR ever built, and, as the boat unveiled at the 2002 Miami International Boat Show, theirs was the first ever to be seen by the public.
The Ontario, Canada-based Ross team uses their Donzi not only as a race boat but also for poker runs, as well as for instructional purposes at their hands-on, high performance driving school.
Clearly not suffering from the extra hours, the F2-46 Donzi is the proud winner of both the 2003 APBA Factory 2 National Championship, and the 2005 SBI/UIM Factory 2 World Championship, proving that a Donzi ZR can not only win, but do it consistently. While many race boats are built extra-light and typically wind up on the scrap pile after a season or two, a Donzi race boat is built to last.
Team Adrenaline
Title: 2004 APBA / UIM Super Vee World Champions
Driver Ken Bowen of Coto de Caza, California and throttleman Scott Conrad of Newport Beach, California, logged a lot of mileage and often found themselves far from home during the course of the 2004 season. Their #18 "Team Adrenaline" Donzi 38 ZR dominated the competition throughout the course of the 2004 season and clinched the ABA Super Vee National Championship at the Deerfield Beach, FL race in October.
JBS Racing
Title: 2004 APBA Factory 2 National Champions
2004 APBA / UIM Factory 2 World Champions
The maverick team of Joe Scrocki and Jeff Stevenson had a banner year in 2004 in their Donzi 38 ZR, "JBS Racing."
Pushing their boat to its limits race after race, the JBS duo carried the APBA Factory 2 points lead the entire season and never looked back. The following month, the JBS team dominated the competition at the Worlds, cruising through each race for three straight first place finishes, laying claim to the 2004 APBA/UIM World Championship.

Title:2004 APBA / UIM Super Vee World Champions
The blue and yellow Donzi 38 ZR Super Vee race boat tamed the heavy seas outside of Key West Harbor in conditions that caused many of the 17-boat field to bow out. At the end of the day, champagne corks were popping for driver Mike Flanigan, and throttleman Bob Teague as they won the 2004 APBA/UIM Super Vee World Championship.
