- James O'Brien is joined by Natasha Clark to discuss the Chancellor's speech at the Labour Party Conference today, ahead of the the Autumn Statement.
Rachel Reeves said: “I believe in a better Britain, a Britain of opportunity, fairness and enterprise.
“I know that country has sometimes felt far off in recent years as our growth, our productivity and family finances all behind. But it doesn’t have to be that way. The British capacity for inventiveness, enterprise, often hard work, has not gone away.
Natasha noted that people are 'pleased to hear from the first Labour Chancellor in 14 years', and that while she delivered her speech, "she looked like the cat that got the cream", delivering a message of 'promise and hope' to the nation.
However, the Chancellor is sticking to her decision on winter fuel payments, warning that the economic ‘road ahead is steeper than harder than expected’.
Rachel Reeves was also heckled by a young man who shouted: "We are still selling arms to Israel, I thought we voted for change Rachel, climate breakdown is on our doorstep."

“Investments” without meaningfully raising taxes just mean either cuts, so austerity, in public sector to fund another or “let private corporations roll in and have fun.” She’s an absolute ghoul.

If we stopped supplying arms to Israel completely, they would get them somewhere else, and we’d have no say at all. The West are portrayed as enabling Israeli aggression, but the reverse is actually true. Why do you think Israel has taken 80 years to get this point. America has never encouraged an Israeli attack, and has intervened many times to stop war. For example they were forced to withdraw during the Suez crisis, and Kissinger forced Golda Meir not to make a preemptive strike on the eve of the Yom Kippur war, which was a costly mistake.

The clown show. It's astonishing how utterly unimpressive Labour MPs have been for decades.
What have they done for leaseholders? They promised to end the freeholders from fleecing them with unnecessary fees and service charges.
Im unable to work due to fighting cancer and as a leaseholder I’m being made to pay for remediation costs for fire safety cladding that was built unsafe and sold to us under false pretext. I can’t put decent food on the table so I can eat better to fight my cancer, I can’t afford to heat my home because I’m no loner eligible for the winter fuel payment, i won’t get help with remediation costs because I’m an unqualified leaseholder. I’ve spent the last two days in hospital and had a masectomy to try to get rid of some of the cancer and all I could think of was how am I going to afford to pay for this charge and keep a roof over my kids heads. WE NEED HELP FROM OUR GOVERNMENT AND WE NEED HELP NOW ! I will loose my home if nothing is done and my kids will be homeless!

ok. so that was a promise to keep the triple lock for the duration of this first term in government. Hopefully, this will not be reversed in the coming budgets. We will hold the Labour party to this. Re winter fuel payment. Why wont Labour commit to helping those pensioners just with an income just above claim for Pension Credit?
This amount of 900 pounds is only if you are on the top rate pension. Those of us on the basic pension only got about 550pounds, 15a week. Next year it will be about half that.

My generation (pensioners) are the richest demographic in the UK by a huge margin ! We benefited from cheap housing, final salary pensions, early retirement on full pension from public sector jobs, massive profits from house values, and a triple lock scheme which guaranteed bigger pension rises than workers pay rises. And yet my contemporaries are whinging about losing a £200 energy payment when young parents can't feed or clothe their children.

If you think an economy is grown on redistribution of wealth by taxing rich people I dont know what to say. You need to attract investment and risk takers to build wealth. Everyone has that opportunity. If you tax wealthy people then you will make the country poorer.
Look at America… for example look at Texas inparticular Houston, Dallas and Austin. Thats a system how you generate wealth for the individual. That’s how an economy works. The government leaves you alone and sets the framework for people to work hard pay less tax and invest. This is how wealth is generated.
