Quite a rock pile you have there Jim. Bill sure was feeling good nice to see him trotting along. Skippy was enjoying his hoof treats my dogs used to love them when the horse got trimmed. God bless and keep safe .
Good video, of course they all are. Good to see Ken being Ken, pretty, quiet and obedient, fun seeing Bill with his get up and go! And yes I'm sure Brenda will like that rock, kind of like me, just need good rocks for certain places. God Bless you all this beautiful May day.
Thank you, Jim. Your Bill seemsto understand youvery well. Sometimes I hear sinething familiar, sch as ho!,, step, gehe. It,skovelyto seesomeoneworking with a horse again. Thank you Jim, thank you Bill.
Bill is a power puller .Like the way he turns his head around to check when you stop to pick up the stones. We had two Belgians, Dina and Donna , back in Quebec in the 40's, picking up endless field stones and pulling hay wagons. One hay field was high up a hill. .Stacked up with hay it was a master team effort coming down. After work we rode them bareback into the lake.
Bill seem to pull better and it was easier for him when he was jogging, had the momentum! That was s sweet of you to think of Brenda in how she would like the rock😍👌🏼
Ken is such a good horse 🐎 He knows what needs to be done when he is in the stalk. Skippy checking to see what he can get to snack on. Haven't seen to many kittens around as maybe they see Skippy and they leave not to get chased by him.. Bill is such a great horse as when you stop to pick up rocks and then off loading the rocks and he just waits for you. That is trust and great training of your horse's Jim. Nice rock gor Brenda. God bless you Jim and Brenda..
Jim love your tie stalls and watering system .No thirsty critters on your farm . Stock tanks in barn areas , in paddock between white board fence and down in pasture area north of house .😊😊😊
Being from Connecticut, in our yard , like most everyone had a garden , always a contest to see who got the biggest tomatoes, well we did well until my father got an AIREDALE TERRIER, who the callKING OF TERRIERS, our AIREDALE would walk through the garden sniffing at the tomatoes, when he came across a nice big ripe one, BINGO it was his , what always amazed me was the amount of rocks that every spring would be in the garden, from what I was told , the frost pushed them up from the ground , as you mentioned your stone wall , well every year , my father would have us kids gather the rocks ,and he built a dry fit stone wall the whole width of our yard .
It would be fun to get a draft saddle and ride Bill (or someone) around the farm for odd jobs like this. Putting the float in the water tank, fixing fence, whatever. Trips to the cabin or pond.
Thank you again Jim and Brenda Had a great morning last Friday getting to meet you and your great draft horse team How was the apples for a great treat
Good job! A lot of work! Excellent care for horses! Thoughtful couple for each other! Amazing life off the grid! Very blessed! Horses very blessed with such good care! Praise God!
Jim, all those stones are saleable. I had a folk band band grew up in my kitchen, and our mighty fine fiddler was a stonemason. He often spoke of days spent "picking rock". Apparently it is not an "extractive industry" to take from the surface. He and his partner built stone walls, whole houses, gateways, fireplaces, you name it. And you have great piles of already picked rock just waiting for a stonemason. "I'm not a shoer........" coming from a man who in his younger days shod his own. You certainly know what you are doing. Bill is a goer alright and he really enjoyed getting into second gear. These are the moments that remind Jim of why he loves working with horses. What a powerhouse Bill is! Greetings from Australia.
I love how very smart that Shoeing Stock is, for you and the horse. It is humane. I love Ken. Missing seeing your kittys. I hope nothing bad happened to them. Cats keep rats down.!. Im glad you let them work off some of that energy. As long as theyre not running home. 😊 ty. God bless yall n the horses and Skippy too.
I hadn't seen a shoeing stock before watching you. I can see that it might get a bit uncomfortable at times for the horse. But when working on such large horses. I can see that it saves injuries to people and horses both! I would definitely use one if I had to do the work you do. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with all of us.
Haha!! I was waiting for Skippy to grab a piece of the hoof!! I can imagine it's backbreaking to do their hooves!! It's probably good to know how to do it, tho--! Oh, I feel for your cow. 😢 She's never even learned how to be a cow! Sweet thing! 😍 thanks for taking me along with you!! 💕
Jim and Brenda, the Shoeing stocks would certainly save you from getting leaned on by a heavy horse and save the farrier from getting crippled up in the lower back area. Great load of logs arrived today in the great Western Star Logging Truck. Ken sure grows a great hoof. Bill certainly gives all the energy he has when in harness and drawing the load. Have a great weekend Jim and Brenda.
My old disc is a 12 foot, (if I remember right), but it is fairly light. I had a lot of fair sized rocks in the fields so I built a basket of sorts over the back gangs and started picking up rocks and tossing them in the basket. That served two purposes for me. It got the rocks out of the fields and made the disc cut in better. The horses probably wouldn't appreciate that, but my Oliver 1850 didn't notice. Another interesting video. Thank you
Back in the late 60's and throughout the 70's, our "Big" tractor was an Oliver 1850 gas wide-front. I think our disk was around 14-16 feet. We pulled a 5-14" bottom plow with it.
Wow I had no clue dogs could eat hoof clippings. When I saw Skippy snatching them up when you were working Jim I got nervous but when you didn't stop him I figured it must be ok. Very interesting. I love your videos so much as I learn something new with every one. You all have become like friends and I love coming along on your day to day happenings. ❤
I know nothing about what Ken needs but plowing bare footed in such a rocky piece of land for a crop of corn, will that affect his feet? Now mind you I’m not saying you’re doing anything wrong because I believe you know what is best for your horses. No doubt in my mind you know what’s best. I am asking this question because I don’t know what’s best. I watch other horse farmers and you’re definitely the best at what you do and I have a lot of respect for you and Brenda. I know William is not family but I also have a lot of respect for him because not only is he working for you but he has to take care of his properties ( livestock, crops and anything else that pops up)and most importantly his family is his number one priority. So if you can give me an understanding of what Mr.Ken needs I would appreciate it.Thank You, and I’m always watching from Panama City Florida, USA. 🇺🇸🦅 Just an old city boy from Miami.
I love picking rocks. Peace and quiet and no one bugging me. We picked rocks 5 to 7 people 20 feet apart up and down the field. Do a quarter in no time. Every rock is picked. Great job Bill.
...............G'day Jim @ Brenda, Bill is such a willing worker and calm. Wonderful to see. Thanks for sharing. Cheers and kind regards from Queensland. Malcolm.
Hey guys! Pretty flowers! I really love your shoeing stocks. Exibits much wisedom! Glad to know Kens feet are in such great shape !. So glad to be learning more about hooves. I only knew the BASICS of cleaning hooves. 😂 T.y. Bill has got A LOT of energy. 😂 he looks funny 😅 I know youre not crazy abt trotting, but he sure is happy! (18:12) 😂 Wise Prioritizing farmer!.😂.👍. P.S. i gr8ly appreciate your video beginings n endings gradually before n after the body of the video.. Gracious. I adjust more smoothly now God bless ya's ❤❤ ❤+😅 u have a nice evening too Cheers
Jim you may want to consider laying the stones you pick out of the fields around the end of the drainage pipes and pond to eliminate erosion. Plus they look nice when your done.
Was that timing or not?? Hi Brenda & you said there are a few things we'd like to share with you today.... Next shot is the back side of the dairy cow taking a dump...Thks for that we like being realistic ?? Enjoy learning from you guys ....Keep em coming !!
Is Pansy doing better with eating grass? Hope she's adjusting to her new surroundings now! That ole saying, "having big shoes to fill" suits Kenny literally! That boy does have big shoes!🥰 He's such a gentle horse! Love him! I'm really missing seeing Lady more. I'd love to see how she's doing in these last weeks of this pregnancy! And how much weight she's gained this time vs her pregnancy with Bree! Seems like she's bigger this time than while in foal with Bree. I'll be anxious to find out if Bree gets a baby brother or sister! Have a great weekend!
When people stop wearing shoes their feet get wider. I am reading "A Star in a Stoneboat" by Robert Frost. Hello from the rocky mid-cost of Maine, US. Friday, May 3rd, 2024
Boy that ground is wet. I hope you get a dry spell to get sowing. I really take this light sandy loam for granted around here. Only downside is in a drought year we really get hit hard and everything burns up. I picked one stone on 20 acres this spring, everything else just packed right in with the roller.
I have also picked stones a few times in my younger years and used to occasionally come across the odd artifact such as arrow heads and I wonder if you ever do?
Great video ! I am very interested in how you got into shoeing horses specifically since when do you do it, who taught/showed you how, what was the actual first time that you took the tools and started doing the work of trimming and shoeing horses ? It is such a good job to know when having horses, knowing how to shoe and how to train horses for the purpose of what you want and what you do makes you all set, it is amazing !
just wondering if a stone rake would practical for your farm, my guess is trying to remove all or most of the stones would be overwhelming. love your channel and watch every episode.
My favorite job in the mid 60s was picking stones... Not. It was hard work. I worked on a farm in West Groton NY. We used a stone boat behind a tractor. It was up and down
Have you dealt with a horse/horses tha tare spookey around water such as what you went through? what about run away horses? how do you learn to trust them on your stone boat? Milion dollar question for me as I usualy use both my haflingers on everything. last time I had them on the boat together; I had a flying saucer behind them.
🤔 nice touch info Ken trim horse shoe removal etc , stone / rock removal brought my Irish ☘️ heritage to the fore, what can I do these stones rocks boulders , sell market oh well just a thought Jim/Brenda 👍👋
I see the bee hives up in tree.Have you gotten any honey yet? A family I follow in Alabama have a father and daughter who collect the honey. They have 15 hives.
Stone picking was one of the things kids and grandkids were for. At least that's what my grandpa thought. LOL.
What a nice scene to watch,Bill is on a awesome horse,we love him.
I see Skippy is really enjoying those hoof trimmings 😉👍🇺🇸👌
He's learnt quickly.
Just a nice video of daily chores on a farm such as yours. Though we will never meet, I think of you, Brenda and William as friends. Thank you.
My dad always said when picking rocks you have to leave some for seed. Always enjoy your show.
Ken's hoofs look remarkedly good! He is such a good boy in the stocks standing so quietly.
Excellent! You folks give the horses a life. A good life. No machines replacing the need for them. Praise God!
It is very clear why you like to work Baron and Bill together. They are quite the spirited team. They can get things done quickly.
Quite a rock pile you have there Jim. Bill sure was feeling good nice to see him trotting along. Skippy was enjoying his hoof treats my dogs used to love them when the horse got trimmed. God bless and keep safe .

You surely are not a “lazy farmer” both of you work so hard! Love your channel it’s my favorite and really love Skippy! God bless you!
Love your videos and enjoy watching them every time. May the lord bless and protect you and Jim working the horses and working on the farm
Good to see grass is growing and hopefully the dairy cow we will adapt.
If I lived closer, I'd offer to come pick up rocks for the taking and use in my landscaping!!
Thank you, Jim. Your Bill seemsto understand youvery well. Sometimes I hear sinething familiar, sch as ho!,, step, gehe. It,skovelyto seesomeoneworking with a horse again. Thank you Jim, thank you Bill.
I really hope Ken stays Healthy & his Legs stay in good shape & no Swelling because he seems to work & Handle like a dream ... Also Bill as well
The horses and the dog love to work 😊❤❤
Jim you are such a blessing to all , as myself, that watch

I had to laugh when you said "Brenda would like that" when picking stones, because I was thinking the same thing.
Young Skippy must sleep well after a day out with Jim, picking up stones everywhere !! He is always running hither, thither and yon !! LOL !!
Bill seem to pull better and it was easier for him when he was jogging, had the momentum! That was s sweet of you to think of Brenda in how she would like the rock😍👌🏼

He's a beautiful and great horse! 😊❤
Who ? Jim or Ken ? LOL !! 😂
Bill is too funny looking back at you as if to say , come on , hurry up Dad
Enjoyed seeing Skippy eating hoof trimmings. Natural for dogs.
Thank you again Jim and Brenda Had a great morning last Friday getting to meet you and your great draft horse team How was the apples for a great treat
Look at that sweet Kenny stand there and look so sweet and regal. Take good care of him, he’s my favorite. Love this channel.
Good job! A lot of work! Excellent care for horses! Thoughtful couple for each other! Amazing life off the grid! Very blessed! Horses very blessed with such good care! Praise God!
Bill: "Come on, add more rocks. That load's embarrassingly small to pull."
good boy Billy Bob,,good fast ride for the Dad..😅he loves it. glad you saved the stone for Brenda.
That log delivery was impressive !! Lots of sawing ahead for you, Jim !!

Hi Jim . Doing great good shoe repair. Jim
That little dog is so cute and into everything.
You know your not lazy when you put your rocks on top of another rock 😂

Certainly a nice "good morning" welcome from Pansy, your new cow !!🐮 Oh, well !!
I love picking rocks. Peace and quiet and no one bugging me.

I gave a Thumbs up for Skip grabbing that sole almost before it hit the stock floor
Awesome, thanks for sharing this video

Thanks for the video, never fails to lift up spirit. Bill loves to run and I suspect Jim does too at least behind a horse!

I bet the horses like having their hoofs trimmed great video
Kenny is such a good horse.
You definitely need a stone rake Jim,cheers mate xxxx
I am always brought to mind how so often the horses tails look like an animal pelt rather than a bunch of individual hairs.
Jim, you have what we call REAL muscles. Weight lifters and cross fit might be strong but they can't out work you!
When people stop wearing shoes their feet get wider.

Basically you can throw rocks at Bill, even if he is not tied and he will just stand until you tell him to move !
Thank you ❤❤
The little stones will grow with time!
BILL!
My dogs always get the horses hoof trimmings too
I would love one of Ken’s shoes!
They do sell used shoes, as well as other items at their on line merchandise store. Price was $25
Used shoe for $25.00.Did the horse autograph it
Hey; you grow stones out there like I do in central Michigan!
I have also picked stones a few times in my younger years and used to occasionally come across the odd artifact such as arrow heads and I wonder if you ever do?
Thank you, Brenda for asking about if the breed has anything to do with the hoof quality. I was just wondering that same thing

My dad picked rocks for .50 cents a day in the Missouri Ozarks I can still see the rock piles
I believe you picked the best farm. Much to busy in Western NY
Bill just loves to run.
I was just thinking that myself. Lol
Does Skippy like the hoof trimmings? My dogs think they are treats 😂
Rocky ground grows taters good
Maybe you missed your calling 😂

Brenda & Jim , do any of your horses get chestnuts & if they do , do you remove them ?😊
You shoud grow rocks... they seem to do well there...LOL.
Dear Jim, how come there are so many stones on your land? Where do all those stones come from? greetings Leon Netherlands
Why don’t you use a five prong long handle manor fork to pick stones saves your back and it’s a lot easier to
