If you pay attention or watch further, Vegito actually wanted Buu to absorb him the entire time so he could save everyone Buu absorbed from the inside, it's why he kept antagonizing him.
Always thought that was the most convoluted way to just not do any of that and just go grab the namek dragon balls

It's worth noting Vegito lost on purpose. He was egging Buu on the whole fight to either eat him or absorb him because he wanted to save Gohan and the others.

If I’m not mistaken this saga came out in Japan in 1994 to 1995 so yeah they were waaaaaay ahead of their time with this animation and to me the best one DBZ ever had
The whole Potara thing got retconned to be only permanent for godly beings.
Vegito is so powerful that exerting himself is enough to break the fusion provided by the potara. I also vaguely remember one of the kais admitting that the earings only fuse kai beings permanently. Other beings have a time limit before they are unfused

the kais themselvesactually didnt know. they only ever had fused amongs themselves and those were always permanent.
only after vegeta and goku attempted it. it so happened to not be permanent when beings other then kais use them.
Buu is basically a magical construct, or a golem of sorts. His clothes are literally a part of him so they regenerate as well
Fun fact: The actual name of Goku and Vegeta fused with the Potara earrings is “Vegarot”. However, the name got lost in translation while dubbing the show from Japanese to English and hence “Vegito” was born.
It was a thing,it got retconed in súper,only if a kai is part of the fusión is permanent,but if two mortals fuse then it last one hour,and if the fuse its TOO powerful,it overload the earrings and it last way less,current manga vegito would last SECONDS
Yeah it was one of the worst retcons in dragon ball history, majority of the Fandom don't consider this being in the continuity since this wasn't Akira toriyama idea but instead it was toei idea to make the Potara fusion have a time limit.
But then again,toriyama still used this in the manga and made vegito's time there even shorter

It’s not if the fusion is too power it’s just that the potara’s have a time limit correlated to the power the fusion is outputting

The earings only fuse kai together permanently. So if goku fused with king kai, it would be permanent. They only last an hour with other people and they don't care about power levels like the fusion dance. Where the two people fusing has to be similar in power and height.
vegito will always be my favorite fusion, he's hella underrated too because he never acutally won a fight
The worst thing is that he has only fought twice and lost for stupid reasons. His first fight (this one) against buu and he was humiliating him, the only reason he didn't win is because he held back to save the others (this is not a stupid reason but he lost on purpose). The second fight against Zamasu, he lost due to the absurd nerf that the author did to the potara.
Fusing with potara's are only permanent if you fuse with a godly being, Goku didn't know that the time before.

The English version of this fight is not bad but i like the German version much more. In the German version Vegito is constantly roasting Boohan every second sentence is a roast and he is also funnier and more cocky.

Vegito wanted this end result. Buu couldn't win unless Vegito wanted it because let's be honest...He was cocky and overconfident but it wasn't like ANYONE could really do anything about it lol. He had all the power to back it up and fully intended to be absorbed.
you should absolutely watch DBZA, the early stuff feels kinda old, but it just gets better as it goes

there is some fan manga called dragonball multiverse there are many ´what if´stories from the DBZ timeline. Also there is a story where vegito never defuses it´s quite interessting and entertaining go check it out.

During this moment the kais said it's permanent but then they defused saying things like either magic or the bad air inside of Buu
This was then revisited in Super where he decided Potara is only permanent on the kais and only 1 hour at max for mortals
This fight was very one sided but quite smartly thought of them to choose to save the ones that are absorbed rather than killing them all together

This didn't come out in the early 2000's. The animation from the clip you're watching is from 1992-93
GT takes place after the final episode of Z while super takes place between the second to last and the last episode
The reason buu has the same clothes as goku is because when buu absorbs people he takes on parts of them. Before he absorbed gohan he absorbed piccolo first then gotenks and then gohan and he had parts of their clothing so you knew who he absorbed. He had piccolos thing he always wears, then he had the vest on the Potara fusions wear (which is why people called him Buutenks) and then he absorbed gohan and he got part of his gi (this form people always call Buuhan) and that form is his most powerful. People can try and claim its kid buu but goku and vegeta stood no chance against buuhan while ss2 and 3 goku fought not necessarily even with kid buu but enough that he wasn't getting clapped like he was against buuhan

Buu's clothes are basically his skin, he's a creature created from magic so his skin can just look like whatever clothes he wants, in this case he makes it look like whoever he absorbed

This is the order based on the years the event happened. Before Super released in 2015 there was only three dragon ball series and the story ended in GT. Due to Super releasing and it being cannon the events of GT dont make sense anymore. This and the fact that Toriyama had no involvement in GT makes the series almost impossible to place on the timeline makes many people say its not cannon anymore (The writer of GT did say it cannon but I won't delve into that.)

if u care about the pacing of the show u should watch DBZ KAI episodes, the kai version doesn’t have filler episodes so it’ll go along a lot faster and the voice acting is considerably better

Vegito let himself get absorbed, it was all part of his plan. Cuz if he killed buu and he was able to do that from the beginning with no sweat, gotenks, gohan and piccolo would also die with him, so he let himself get absorbed then go inside buu's body and save everyone.

Dragonball GT is a continuation of dragonball z, the story picks up some years after the end of z episode. dragon ball super timline is in between the end of buu saga and before the end of z episode and kinda gt if they ever gone remake gt. The Potara fusion is stated to be permanent and the reason they was un-fused because Majin buu tried to absorbed them but they was just inside buu just floating around and then something inside Majin buu to un-fused them. Many things was hinted at it was buu's magic that un-fused vegito.
In dragon ball super it was badly retcon that when two mortals fused it is not permanent. This new information upset the dragon ball community because it pokes holes in their logic. It was a very mixed response from the Fandom.
