Benzyl benzoate being a salt form shouldn't damage a plastic container. You could try using it. I would dispose benzyl benzoate as the form itself rather than converting into something. As benzyl benzoate is itself relatively safe.

The problem is that our whole class produces about 20 samples of Cannizzaro with same condition and the amount of reactant, however, some of samples (6/20) become yellow after we leftover our sample in same refrigerator 24 hours after. we are curious about what makes the different. I have done some serious searching; I first think it might be side product like 4-Hydroxybenzaldehyde or catechol. Yet our assistant professor disagrees with my opinion. and that's what makes me here asking for some help. I would be grateful if you can solve my problem, sincerely thanks to your reply.
