95%: having to watch this because your stressful AP Euro class needs you to answer questions
5%: actually finding this video because it helped them with their work

      - Pre-Renaissance: Hand transcribing and carved text blocks
      - Johannes Gutenburg invents printing press in 1440 w/ movable type (rearrangable metal pieces); First printed text: Gutenberg Bible
      - Led to increased demand of education as more people wanted to read
      - Ideas shared easily, collaboration increased, easier communication
      - Writing in vernacular (local languages) instead of Latin → people access books in own language → sense of national identity among people
      - Bibles more accessible → Scholars go back and translate original Bible from Greek into vernacular → Catholic teachings not in line with Bible → Protestant Reformation
      - Pamphlets written by reformers, spread throughout Europe using printing press

When my dad was a Intel Officer with the 3rd Armored Division (Spearhead) during the Cold War & I was a young American army brat living in Frankfurt West Germany I attended Department of Defense Elementary School #2 and in 1984 when I was in 3rd grade we went to a museum that housed 3of5 1st Guttenberg printing presses not far from the Anne Frank museum. It was pretty neat to see them and I even bought a page of the Bible printed from one of them in the gift shop that had colored ink but they said the original printings didnt use various colors but I guess illuminations were added later in some cases. Pretty neat. My 3rd grade teacher who was Jewish took us on many field trips to such places and she really loved my poetry and tried to get me to let one of her friends in France who was a publisher put some of them in poetry book. But I said,"I'm an American Army Brat & not a French poet." lol But I did agree to let her put my poem,"Fly,Fly,Butterfly",in the Department of Defense (Atterberry) Elementary school yearbook that year. I think it was the only poem written by a student to ever be in a D.o.D. school yearbook. So I did find the trip to the Guttenberg printing press museum very fascinating.

Very good job, good overall explication of formation and resultant effects of PP. Some of the pictures and prints, partic from medieval period u showed, r stunning (& they coordinated w/ ur lecture well), love the bite-size concept for modern euro, wks so well for understanding overall concepts and for those in time-crunches!

I'm a printer by trade and have over 30 years experience from the slow German machines ( Heidleburg) to the faster japanize machines( Sakurai-Roland)) even the RYobi Crabtree, just to name a few, the days of block type have now been and gone but they served there purpose to get all that attended school to read and write and made a lot of people rich in the process but now the world has changed to the screen.
