I finally got to know TC about at the same time as Devin Townsend only a few years ago (hail youtube!). I was fascinated by both as I haven't been, just like you in a very long time... deh, age has come to me! However in the long run I appreciate TC more, because I just like it better. It's darker, more mysterious, yet easier to digest than Devin.

This is the most unique and curious heavy metal music I have heard in a very long time.
