      Phil I have been lazy in not reporting back on how I did get the unit fixed..... it ended up by the unit being opened up, then cleaning the relay contact points. Also re-did some of the loose solder joints for good luck and it sorted it.

    I watched this with interested, decided it was not for me if soldering was required, but heard the mention of some people had got it to work with a bang or two to the unit. Tried a Bangor two against a wall and it worked!!! Unbelievable!!! So a good video, if for a different reason

    I have many of these remote power sockets on machinery in a workshop. recently I have been having a problem with false triggers. ? opening up workshop to find machinery working. On one ocasion I discovered a dust extractor had been running for hours. Has anyone else had the same issue ? How wide is the radio band connection on these devices ? what other radio devices send a signal close to the band that triggers these remote sockets ?. I now have to go around the workshop at night and switch off the switch on the power socket itself. Any help would be apreciated. Does anyone know of remote sockets that work on a more secure narrow band ?

    I have loads of these gen 1 versions. Just got it working with Siri. Need to look at those bad batteries and caps now, and ones that program on but not off. Buy a scope or multi meter mate 👍

    Have you tried reprogramming it, happens to me sometimes I just reset it?

    Tapped the plug unit on wood block about 6 times and fixed the unit. Was about to fix 5 of my 6 bad units. Note it takes 5-10 sec for unit to warm up.

      Yes, the start time can take a bit longer than you would expect... I'm glad you managed to knock some sense back into your items!

    So they ended up in the bin and a quick shopping trip to Amazon for some decent replacements?

    • @TechRealityGlasgow

      Well I did get Alexa enabled devices a month or so ago, but the manual ones are very handy to have, so I use them in the bedroom now. It's only one that is defectve, but as it appears to be an inherent fault, it woudl be nice to know how to fix this correctly and try and do a bt to sae the planet!

      It is some of my repairs - good intentions, lead new purchases. My soldering is rubbish too

    Please take this waste of time down as it's just a bloody waste of time as I said, or at least name it correctly. I feel strongly enough to carry on but am only just holding it all back!! Thanks for absolutely nothing >

      Please let rip! I started on this in 2018, and like you, Phil commented, got upset and as I replied to him… I just resoldered the joints and it started working again. And then, bought a better brand and tossed these in the bin! Take a chill pill, a three year old video making you freak out.. Never knew if commanded so much power over some of the masses!!! 😂😂

      Got to agree , expecting a solution please change Title

      Not a problem for me - I quickly skip-sampled a few sections of the video, and established in less than 1 minute that @TechRealityGlasgow hadn't found a total solution. But still interesting to see that he had got as far as I have, but still not solved the problem

    mine packed up on me, and after fiddling about I assume it must have stopped communicating, as i held down the power button on the unit for a few secs and the light started flashing, then I pressed the on button on the remote and it started working again

    I've repaired a few of mine by replacing the relay but unfortunately I could only source them from China (Ali Express £5.70 for 5)

    Well, thought mine was broken , but it was a replacement battery that was defunct, so, at least I investigated.

    • @TechRealityGlasgow
      @TechRealityGlasgow  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      We did get it fixed... the relay needed sorted out..... and we now have another one defective.. so this time around we can film it knowing what to expect and show you how to sort it!

      @TechRealityGlasgow  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Peter Allett I did do that with this as well....and....well..... Maybe a bit too hard...... It did work once, did the same, them I think I killed it!

  • @BigGoucho
    @BigGoucho 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Could the problem maybe lie with them being mass-produced shite made from the cheapest components going and are nowhere near standards compliant? 🤣

    • @TechRealityGlasgow
      @TechRealityGlasgow  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      BigGoucho that goes without saying! But isn’t it great being able to buy in such garbage and try and work out how the hell they even worked in the first place!😬😬

    • @BigGoucho
      @BigGoucho 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Tech Reality thats actually the more interesting part, more so when it goes from working to dead without any obvious violence or drama. You could understand it if there was a loud explosion followed by clouds of acrid smoke and bits of cat burned into the wall but its way more intriguing when it just stops working.

    • @TechRealityGlasgow
      @TechRealityGlasgow  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      BigGoucho exactly! And when you read the reviews on Amazon, the fault has been experienced by a lot of people. I’m just curious to know if it’s something simple to fix, or sadly, easier to throw in the bin and buy something else!

    • @BigGoucho
      @BigGoucho 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Tech Reality it's a shame too when you think that with a little more effort in the design, tooling or component sourcing it could well be good-value but in its' current state it's just a complete waste of materials and production.

    • @TechRealityGlasgow
      @TechRealityGlasgow  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      BigGoucho sadly the Chinese made stuff is always built as cheap as possible.... so really the mere idea of repairing anything is probably alien to them! Watch this space for on going repair attempts!
