This recording will remain a gift. I can't imagine without this tremendous contrapuntal work by J.S. Bach or the variety on interpretations including organ. I noticed some changes in Contrapunctus XII both rectus and inversus not following strictly the score. It doesn't sound too bad. Everyone who has the CD is truly blessed!
Marvelous performance of this wonderful music, very accessible. I had the same very fine experience with J.S.Bach's Musical Offering with Karl Munchener. Many thanks !
@Divergent Integral The fact of being Bach's heirs does not mean they're always right in everything. Especially C.P.E., who is well-known for his attempts to build a myth about his father. The only significance and "recompense" of the Choral Prelude is being Bach's last composition, written down by dictation if you want to believe in C.P.E.'s statements. That Bach heirs' "thought" seems to be a sort of consolation to themselves after their father's passing.
Pierre Mosnier
Wonderful performance from a very young William Stewart. I have the great pleasure in accompanying William nowadays, and just to let folks know ,that he only uses that handkerchief for his other passion of Morris Dancing, which he dose every Sunday..........😂
Marvelous performance ! Wonder why this Wolfgang Graeser's amazing arrangement has not been performed more often. (Small technical detail : audio channel (L/R) seems to be reversed here)
Unfortunately, this is the complete film made by French television. I guess the film was not to exceed 60 minutes ... Munchinger always conducted the entire Art of Fugue.
@@wendelhubert2210 Yes I have the Double Decca CD - I particularly miss Contrapunctus 9 here - it's vital to the flow of the piece and to miss it is most unfortunate and very hard to understand
To my ears Münchinger had a rare gift for getting JS Bach tempos spot on. Many thanks for this excellent recording of a wonderful performance.
A toi, c 'est merci!! alle waren ooooooooops, we were all sick that day, and played like this!!!!!!

Sorry "Karl Munchinger" ! A version I always come back to.
this music is so wonderful.
My version, despite all those fanatics of historicism!
Mine, too!
It's not historicism, but simply truth. That Choral Prelude has no place there.

COMPLETAMENTE d'accordo!!🤝🤝
Simply Great!

You can get this recording on another TH-cam channel with all the movements keyed

Check out 29:20 to 29:27. I wonder why.
I prefer the extraordinary Karl Ristenpart version (orchestra, too)
😍👌👌🙏
We are sorry - you have reached the ending of music - there is no more. ~ You may go back home and feed your cats, and do the dishes...
True, no more, no further. The Omega.
Impossible, the reverse mode has given up, we are stucked at the unfinished Contrapunctus !
Best there is - but why is this TH-cam version incomplete?
Unfortunately, this is the complete film made by French television. I guess the film was not to exceed 60 minutes ...

On vhs and never remastered?
still can't decide which one I should buy, his version or Sir Neville Marriner (mind the spelling)
Munchinger, but with Stuttgart
Chris Phillips isn't he always with the Stuttgart - any way I ended up buy both of them ;D
Really is hard choice
@@e21bigWhich recording did you buy?
WHO IS GRUNEWALD? And for the past...for the present...for the future...WHO IS JSB???
nice, but there is no lick
hi
...really?!
