Great video Justin, your edits always make me grin or laugh. Your casual tone to these videos make it really easy to "come along for the ride", so I hope you keep this up for other RPGs!
Paul, good to hear from you again buddy! It’s comments like these that make it worth it. Solo play episodes are longer, so they take longer to film and a lot longer to edit. Getting feedback from folks like yourself makes my lack of sleep worthwhile 🤣😂. I will try to get some more solo plays in there. Wanting to do another Dragonbane one, when I get my physical copy of the bestiary.
thank you for this. Im trying to get some solo going with shadowdark or DCC. Im gonna try Shadowdark first. A houserule about lights that I heard that I might try is "turns...but..." (my term) you give the light source a set of turns or rounds. say 20 turns for a torch. 1 turn per small room, 2 per big room, play it by ear. but at 20 instead of going out, it goes through a descending die chain - each turn/round, roll a die (say a six for a torch or an eight for a lamp) on anything but a 1-2, the light stays lit. (well made torch. exceptional oil, lower humidity - whatever your excuse) on a 1-2 the dies chain descends D8 becomes a d6, etc. on a 1-2 roll on a d4, the light goes out. Seems like it might be a fun mechanic to try.
You are very welcome. The system you are describing is often called the “usage die”, it is used to track timers and resources in a lot of rules lite games (such as the Black Hack). It works very well.
Thanks for this, great quick overview of how to roll up characters and have a quick adventure. After soloing with several different systems, I've decided a simple, fun one is the easiest. ShadowDark definitely fills the bill. I normally use Mythic GME v2, but I am trying Solo Dark supplement for my current campaign.
You are welcome. I downloaded Solo Dark when I got email notification it was available… then promptly went on to forget I need to look at it… thanks for the reminder!
That is a possibility. My only issue is that my solo plays take twice as long to make and they tend to perform slightly below average, so I don’t do them very often. Basically just a way I say thank you to some of my subs that enjoy watching my solo plays. There are so many really good performers that record solo plays, I can see why mine don’t have larger viewership when one could watch “Me, Myself and Die”. Everyone has their niche! Thanks for watching, and I’m not ruling your idea out.
Dean, I believe you were one of the viewers I had talked to about solo plays. A couple of you had asked over the last month or two, so when I had a sudden schedule change I decided to sacrifice some sleep to get one done for you guys! Thanks for watching buddy!
Bizarre coincidence…I’m listening, thumbing through my book, trying to find the page with random adventure generation which I’ve never done. I roll adventuring site name, I’m just before 32 minute mark on your video, and as I roll the d20 3 times, you call out “Necropolis of the deepwood borderlands” matching my exact rolls. You called it as I was rolling and reading it on my own chart. Anyway, carry on
Imagine the amount of effort I had to put into rigging your dice and planting the subliminal messages to get you to play at just the right speed. I’m glad my efforts were appreciated and fruitful! 😉
Not Tim, it provides flexibility in system, scheduling, and session length. You lose the social aspect. It’s been a great way for me to try lots of games I would not have been able to otherwise. Still enjoy my group games but would not give up my solo gaming either!
I slow roll it with my group…. “Where did I put my stamp?” Gives them pause. Placing it silently on the edge of the screen casually as they discuss emits a response. Got it from Goodman Games, about $15.
@@jaykaye594 I ordered it back in 2020 and they had a couple of different options at the time. I felt like the one I got offered the most customizable input :)
Early! This makes me want to spend the time to learn this game! Maybe it's time for a new solo adventure... between this and the previous video, you may have be sold.

I just started playing a solo Shadowdark campaign with a party of goblins. I'm using the Solodark supplement from Arcane Library.
Enjoyed your video!
That’s a fun party… ain’t no party like a goblin party. Or so I’ve heard.
Manfred Mann would approve. Liked the session. Good example of solo play with shadowdark and mythic. The more I see shadowdark the more I like it.
I played a session at Gary Con and it was a blast! Very good game.

Im coming back to this video and loving it just as much as before. 😊
Such a good system and toolkit… thanks Dean!
@@booksbricksandboards783 for sure. Have you tried out the Solodark Supplement yet?
Finally watching this now just had some free time :-) excited to see.
Thanks Yags!
thanks Justin! an idea - write down the story and continue - what happened to the half demon child? let’s find out!

Awesome! I'm always down for more solo actual-play content. 🎉

I have to try solo play sometime.

Nice, where might a man acquire himself such a stamp? I feel its presence alone on the table will sharp some wits amongst my players.

@@booksbricksandboards783 Very cool, and they ship to Ireland too. Most excellent.

You do have the optional rules that you can re-roll your pc if you do not have a single stat of 14 or more.
Good point!

Always happy to help allocate some of your money Baldi!
