Rice I soak over night and urad dal only for 2vhrs in summer and max 3 hrs in winters. If we soak urad dal gor more time, it doesn't give nax softness to idlies

You can add one cup soaked sabudana also and the consistency of ur batter is still thick should be little pouring same batter you can use for paper dosa 1 cup udad dal 3 cup rice 1 cup sabudana 1 spoon meethi and 1/2 cup poha
Rice should b coarse u should grind it fine other wise ur idli will b sticky when it is steamed u will not to know but later when it comes to room temperature u will come to know I think u must have seen idli rava prepare idli with that u will see d fifference
Idli rice should be ground coarse not fine. Ratio is 1::2.methi is not added. This is dosa recipe. If you go to any restaurant in banglore you will never get taste of methi in idli. If you prepare in this method it becomes harder. You should not put poha. This makes batter more sour. Authentic idli is just rice &dalin 1::2 ratio

Shilpi, I put 4 cup rice, 1 heaped cup urad dal, 1/2 cup poha and 3 teaspoons of methi daana. Comes out fantastic.
