Thanks for the review! I haven’t seen Long Arm of the Law in at least twenty years, on the ancient non-anamorphic HK Megastar DVD; I do remember it being an excellent gritty crime thriller. Never seen the other three. Can’t wait for my set to get here! Besides the unfortunate fact that the third and fourth films aren’t included, it looks like the only downside is the lack of the Longmore artwork on the poster, but I’m very glad there’s a booklet included this time, as some of their recent releases haven’t included booklets, just posters, and if I have to choose I’ll take booklets over posters. Super stoked for this set!

You are costing me a fortune George 😆Just ordered the Japanese release of 'Drunken Master 2' after watching your review. Got the first and third of the LAOTL series on vcd. Love the first one very gritty film with a great ending in the walled city. Part III I can't remember at all. Keep the great reviews coming - Antony

Yes it does have that wonderful smell. The poster is meh. The transfer for the first film didn’t look particularly spectacular to me. (Fantastic film though) Curious to see how the second film looks.

Way much better than the so called stand up comedians and clowns of Hollywood
Who uses ABSOLUTELY ridiculous punch lines and Auto-aim when they fire a weapon
They are such great films! Classics of Hong Kong cinema :)
Loved the restoration work on this release HOWEVER, hate the DNR used..... I don't know why companies that finalize these releases apply DNR to them removing the film grain 😢 luckily these release is watchable to if they dialled in 1% more of DNR I would probably return the films back to the store. Most 4K UHD tv's have the option to apply DNR via the options menu but unfortunately this release is embedded with DNR I'm currently finding it hard to watch because of this DNR. The worst that EVER thing that happened to Blu-ray releases is DNR!!!!! When they apply it to the discs 👎🏻 the best ever 4K UHD or Blu-ray's are WITHOUT DNR
Very passionate thoughts there! I know what you mean though. Still, I'm impressed with how they make these older films look like they were made yesterday, and just happy that they are a hell of a step up from the VHS (or DVD) quality I used to watch them in. Many companies like to get a 'restoration endorsed by the director' statement or claim - perhaps it should be for all when possible :)
@@invincibleasiaofficial yeah, I'll keep my copy I got from HMV but, yeah, if 0% DNR was used this release would be a amazing..... I've never seen these films but I get the vibe they are a 100% classic HK cinema which we all love! It's lovely seeing HK in the 1980's in HD
It's simple maths film grain adds detail and DNR makes films look waxy lol 👎🏻

I got my copy a couple of hours ago. These films are a blind buy for me so I'm really looking forward to them.
When i opened my copy earlier i thought of you when i saw that the sean art was not used for the poster.. I'm wondering if 88 have to pay for each use of the artwork and that's why they didn't use it, idk.
You didn't comment on the quality of the booklet and the amaray sleeves so i assume it is just me that felt like the quality of paper seems thinner/cheaper (maybe i'm having one of those days).. but i did feel like 88 are cutting cost a little?
when they first had this up for order on their site it was £30.. but zavvi, hmv etc had it for £25 so i got in touch with 88 to see if the price was staying at £30, they said that, £30 was the price and honestly they should have been charging more.. i wasn't surprised they said they should be charging more as this is a 2 film set but it has made me think they are cutting some quality so they put it out at a good affordable price. Personally, i would rather pay a bit more for thicker paper. I need to check their older releases to see if it's in my head that the quality has dropped at all?
That's crazy they would say that. 88 are starting to wobble a bit on many things which is a shame! I was more surprised that a film like Battle Creek Brawl got such attention with its recent re-release and this didn't. Still, stunning prints and great films :) Thanks for watching!!
@invincibleasiaofficial like other boutique labels (Arrow for example) I think 88 will re-release films like battle creek with extras (hardslip, poster, deluxe, or even 4k like with Dragons Forever etc) because they've already got the rights? I expect them to (every so often) announce their previously released Jackie Chan blu rays in Deluxe and/or 4K, and i bet we will keep buying them, lol.. Arrow is successful with it (especially now with the upgrade to 4K), so I see us having all the same JC films lined up on our shelves , but they will be Deluxe or 4k versions. This is what we do, vhs, dvd, blu ray, collectors editions, 4K... I hope they stop upgrading the physical media... How much have we spent on just one title? lol. We love it, though:-)
