This man is a genius! Those key changes are amazing; it’s bizarre to imagine that something like that was planned and rehearsed. Maybe he improvises every time he plays it.
Just when I think I've heard every rendition of the maple leaf rag, the wizard Adam Swanson melts my freaking brain with the best version I've ever heard. This is some Tom Brier level magic. Truly excellent work.
Scott Joplin never said to play his rags slow. He said don't play them fast. There is a difference. He also put the playing speed of some of his pieces as allegro moderato ( moderately fast.)
@@GH-oi2jfApologize in advance...but as a lover of slot machines, the fast/slow,and slow/fast speed of the machines sound as with Super Mario is subliminal & is usually what makes for hasty decisions.
This rendition made me think of the Scott Joplin biopic, in which an opposing contestant kept asking, "What key are you in? What are you doin' wit' dem keys?"
I've been enjoying your music since you were a young boy! You are absolutely amazing. So happy for your success! You make so many people happy with your music.
The more I listen to this amazing ragtime piece and more I feel gooseskin!!!!!! When a certain Keith Emerson played this music many years ago it was a success in the entire world, undoubtedly!! But with astonishing arrangements you make it wonderful, really!!!! Have you written them??? Fantastic result👏👏👏👏👏👌👌👌👌👌👌👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
I hated piano lessons so much when I was a kid that my mother finally gave up and let me quit. Today, I can't believe I was that foolish. What it would be to be able to play like that. Wow!
As taken by the storm, I love the tempo! It really takes some focus and a good set of headphones to take it all in. The only negative is the acustics in the room, but I guess that piano stands where it stands. Anyway, bravo Sir!
that is some great playing my friend. i envoy your style. i've been playing since i was 5, i'm 45, and you know what, if i played something, you probably wouldn't even knew that i played at all. lol i really really want to get into ragtime though...
Bravo! Marvellous work. What pleasure listening to it. Any chance you've made sheet music? It would give us a rather hard time learning it by ear, given the speed at which it is played. I have been looking all over the web for a nice arrangement.
Hallo Adam, you've made an excellent job in this famous piece!!!! My question is: are these fabulous arrangements yours?? The Keith Emerson's version is undoubtely amazing but this makes...FIREWORKS!!!!! Many compliments from Italy!!!!
Your key changes are brilliant!!!
Line from the piano cutting contest in the Scott Joplin biopic -- "Hey -- what key are you in? What are you doing with them keys?"

Rich in innovative playing, chording and harmonies! Adam, you are one hell of an amazing, talented musician and pianist!!!
Wow, this is probably the best rendition I've ever heard, being a ragtime pianist myself I have to say Adam, absolutely amazing! Great job!!
... Kristen Mosca does an equally good job ... check out her ragtime piano too !!!
Robert Walters I think she was taught by Jonny May as well, i’m sure you’ve heard of him if you’ve heard of Kristen

Listening to old piano-rolls you can realize the ragtime-/jazz-pianists get faster and faster . Most of them waren't able to play in constant tempo .
The Maple Leaf Rag is marked “not fast.” Here, it is played too fast, in my opinion. This is the way it is often played in saloons.

Omg.. this was legit...
You sound like you spent your whole life working on that piece
Good job!
LOL most jazz players are like that
You're really good!!
I wish I had $1 for every person on youtube commenting that Joplin rags are played too fast.
True
bonus 50¢ for every comment that misinterprets Joplin's "not fast" statement. we could retire tomorrow.
actually SUPER TRUE. 7 years after btw
Listen to Joplin's own piano roll of the "Magnetic Rag"... it's VERY brisk
Keep making folks happy Mr. Swanson.
he is very strong, he changed the key a lot of time
You english is very strong too!
BEAUTIFUL !!!
I' sure that Scott Joplin loves how you play his masterpiece ! Thanks, Adam !!!
I'm pretty sure he wouldn't like the tempo
I've heard a thousand versions, but I think this one takes the prize....
Great Job!! like your twist on this !! And also thanks for Solving our "Mystery Song... Hello Frisco Hello!!"
well, I don’t know how the pros say your suppose to play it but either way, I could listen to this EVERY day!

WTF!?! how is this even possible? This IS AMAZING
Awesome. Scott is smiling.
Great! Just great!
Very nice arrangement.
WOW TRULY THE RAGTIME MASTER
I greatly enjoyed this rendition, and I am glad we do not all play MLR (or any other composition) the same way.
Well done sir!!!
Oh my.... I adore you!! ❣
this is awesome
What a master of the keyboard...I can only see a great career for him in the future.
Wow. I thought Scott Joplin reborn was Joshua Rifkin, but your hands are better! Just incredible. I look forward to following your career.
Watch Tom Brier´s version.
DerPianoZocker Haha yeah :P
very good
Great!!!!!!
Scott Joplin would be proud of you
this tempo is perfect. not very fast and not so slow either.
It sure didn’t sound like that when I played that in my recital. Crazy good!
WELL DONE, YOUNG MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Love it
Brilliant stuff. Wondering how much was improvised and how much was "composed" arrangement?
does anyone know where I can get the sheet music for this arrangement
that is some great playing my friend. i envoy your style. i've been playing since i was 5, i'm 45, and you know what, if i played something, you probably wouldn't even knew that i played at all. lol i really really want to get into ragtime though...
Does anyone have any idea where to get sheet music for this?
Indeed Scott Joplin would be proud of you, "we who are alive and remain" are proud of you!
I love it!! Perfect speed!! And I think I like the teeshirt, because it's like, you know, I think I'll just go play some Scott Joplin. Not pretext...
Scott Joplin has the best classical music
can I have the sheet music for this
It should be played on the best piano available, unfortunately not many blacks had access to a grand piano in 1899!
Totally Awesome!! :):)
I can confirm this - I own the non-arranged sheet music.
Good job
Isn't Sedalia Missouri where they have the state fair of Missouri ?
Talent!
