Ironman mode is the closest you can get to the feeling you got as a kid playing Runescape for the first time all those years ago. Getting excited about the noobiest shit imaginable because it's actually significant to you. Every single milestone feels so much more rewarding and special.

My main issue with IM is supply gathering. As time goes on, mains move on to harder/higher req grinds. On the other hand, IM's will still have to do farm runs, farm Zulrah for scales, do birdhouse runs for nests, etc.
I love the idea of getting everything by myself, but it sounds like a neverending chore. For me it's even more so, since I highly dislike Farming and the dailyscape aspect of the game

Its a time commitment. I decided to revisit osrs a few months back and started out as an Ironman, but recently switched off. It does provide the appeal of a traditional osrs experience, with much of the modern play styles being centered around efficient skilling and late game bossing. The downside that I have, which is actually a core feature of Ironman, is that you have to commit so much more time into the account to do what you want to. As a casual gamer myself, I don’t want the game to feel like work. I realized this as I was saving for my first rune set. On Ironman you spend 30+ hours saving enough through very limited money making methods to then go buy the overpriced items from npcs. Conversely on a normal account you could train combat for a fraction of the time, sell your loot on the ge, buy a full set for half the cost, then move on to your next goal.
Made my first Ironman account technically a GIM and it’s the best experience I’ve had on OSRS.

You a solo gim too? My whole team quit after like 150 total level lol now I’m sitting here at 1500 all alone lmao. It is an unranked gim so I could add new people at some point

The ironman experience is the most fulfilling in my opinion. It felt great when I finally finished rfd for barrows gloves, or unlocking the rune shop from Ali in Al Kharid to not have to go to the wild for laws. It feels great every step of the way, if you're watching and decide to give it a go. Remember the end game is made up of small goals :)

These 'cons' are the only reason I still enjoy RuneScape. Having to go out your way to do stuff different makes for so much more variety. It isn't just 'buy this from the ge and do the most efficient thing till 99'.
Going dry sucks, but the adrenaline of potentially getting the item after a kill makes it so worth it. The excitement on getting drops just hits different on an ironman.
Love iron man. Was skeptical but it’s pretty challenging. You learn to actually play and love the mini games 🤣🤣

Love IM mode (GIM here) but now that im bossing for the first time in my life its annoying getting all the supplies to maintain the account. but at least we dont have to sell everything anytime we switch bosses.
Main con that’s getting me right now is not being able to just get a charged glory for the pittance of 16k

I love the aspect of actually receiving my equipment through working for it.. sure I'd love to be able to do high tier content locked behind good gear but buying equipment doesn't have the same fulfillment.

While early stages of iron man are good. The mid game to end game just are not. It doesn't respect your time plus iron men are worse than Nintendo fans in regards of criticism. It's the better experience if you have too much time on your hands. If you don't, then just make a main account and go for collection log. Your main account item grind is equally impressive (if you can call the mindless time sink grind that) as that of an iron man account.
Ironman can be very fun but a lot of it is just a regular account with extra chores for literally everything. It can give you a feeling of fulfillment. My main concern is that I can't buy bonds for the account to maintain it, or if it changed and I can, then I'd have to play a lot of my main account to supply membership to both accounts. An issue with hardcore specifically is that there's no option to simply restart account, and that just feels like a money grab from jagex.
You couldn't do ToA? Nearly maxed account? Im sure you have a trident, hasta and blowpipe? Man, I'm mainscaping for thousands of hours and still can only dream about affording torva and tbow. ToA doesn't require that for efficient runs. 300 invos can be completeded reliably with much simpler gear. This "I require x-set of gear and then I can start playing" is gatekeeping so many players, especially irons.
Achievement diaries and quests dont really make a difference between irons and mains. We both have to get the exact same levels and kc's for completions. Ain't nobody gonna help with those. For me it took 256 kills for KQ head. There's no main account work-around for that.
There are ppl who maxed, got bored, and started an ironman. Sure, those people feel entitled to call mainscape inferior just because "you can buy anything." But for very casual players, like me and countless of others, there's actually a lot of hours put into account progression and playing in order to afford gear upgrades. Ironmen can get spooned too you know? I know an ironman with 3 tumeken's shadows while some people go over 100 raids dry.
Think of this: Mainscaper and an ironman unlock elf-city at the same time. They both have just about unlocked the best moneymakers in game for their respective levels (Vorkath, CG, etc). By this point the casual mainscaper definitely doesn't have the funds to buy bowfa, neither does the ironman. They both start grinding CG making approx equal amount of gp/h. Iron gets lucky enh seed at 143kc. Mainscaper doesn't. Mainscaper has made about 25mil from reqular loot at this point. Enh Seed costs 165mil.
Where the game really can shutdown is the tbow, scythe and tumeken's drops for ironmen. Might never happen for some. Sure over the time accumulated wealth can allow mains to buy-pass those items. But can we stop pretending like casual mains get _everything_ handed to them?
For me this sums up ironman best : One man's trash is ironmans treasure :)

@@tijhuisjoeri 1,683 dry for my dragon defender got a torstol seed drop though 1/34,933 drop rate from cyclops💀 So livid the fact that is basically a pet multi times over.
I am 86 slayer on my Ironman right now. For me the ranarr drops always have been outscalling my usages, especially after i got full guthans, can realy recommend getting it, its worth the grind
I'd say for a vast majority it feels the most rewarding but it makes dry streaks feel so much worse

The general shop are painful because what ever they stock is what you get and if you buy item then resell it you can't buy it back.

Worst part about ironman mode is getting crashed at a boss or killing a boss someone may've previously already poked. Wasting all that time to kill a boss when you did 100% of the work and not getting drops is anti fun.
More of an issue at early levels but... overstocked shops. Why punish ironmen and make items unavailable if they're over stocked behind the default volume? Just have ironmen specific shops. If ironman in premise is single player the game mode, why does the multiplayer elements weaken the single player experience?
Both of these feel less like a challenge and moreso poorly implemented decisions which jut weakens the gameplay experience and makes an ironman character feel akin to a second class citizen.

i play a main, but i have runelite plugin that locks ge so icant use it, so i get all the freedom of a main and have same feels of a ironman.
my main reason for not playing ironman is due to...
1. people can tag monsters and you dont get loot, to many times bossing and not getting look is very annoying.
2 this goes with 1, its very easy to crash irons due to tagging and they dont get loot.
3. lack of group pvming, a lot of friends of mine are mains and want to boss, so if i was a iron i couldnt boss with them due to not getting loot, yeah i could go for no loot but thats supplies waste in many ways.
4. bossing in ffa, most mains wont boss with a iron due for a few things, 1 if people get drops then gp goes to main and not your iron, or if iron gets a drop but doesnt split its demotivating for mains to want to boss with you.
5. toxic community, most irons i seen are soooo toxic, and have this mentality of they think they are better due to getting items themselves, i been flamed for being a main account for no reason lol
ironman mode is fine n all but like i said, i play as a main but have ge locked, also collection log really devalued ironman mode in a lot of ways.
i mean idk, i do raids on the iron and just do ffa, or say i won't split but also won't receive splits. seems to work fine. if i was basically just missing megarares or stuff like that and could split, i'd just split.
Another con that frustrates me getting metal dragon tasks without having the herblore lvl for anti fire potions. Arggggghh

There small native of being iron man like losing grand exchange and trading players and general store limit if someone sells over restocking limit you lose chance of buying their. I might go back to it when I ready for it. Yes for first two weeks I played as iron man status then went back to normal status.
The only real con I see to it is the time investments. For example, 99 construction

Regular characters made sense when the grand exchange didn't exist and 90% of the playerbase was low level noobs. Now when most the active players are maxed or bots and you can buy high level items for dirt cheap on the GE you simply are not going to have fun playing as a regular character. Ironman is objectively a better paced game experience. If the GE didn't exist regular mode would be 10x enjoyable and rewarding.

Strange video idea. Surely this is just what an Ironman is all about? Of course you will run out of resources if you plan on grinding one thing. Of course you won’t have the best gear for content until you receive that drop. The only thing I see as a “con” is group content that was made without Ironman in mind, eg corp and gwd

To be efficient on a main you have to rush nmz for 150+ hours, rush SOTE, get 2 bowfa drops, sell 1 for melee/mage, learn tick perfect toa, and run toa 450s or mass nex for 200 hours.

Time and only time is the con. Personally I love grinding out the most stupid shit so you can acquire said amount of loot, to lvl a certain skill, to do the quest, for the dairy, to do a boss more effectively, but only after you gathered the right amount of shrooms and leaves to get to the certain lvl at which you unlock the 16*4 Healing piss pot so you can grind that wierd goblin god who gives you cool armour so you can flex on your peers.
I love it and I'm 3000hours deep so far - here's to 3000 more...

This. I seriously can't enjoy playing my main anymore and honestly that kind of sucks. Nothing I do on there feels significant anymore. I usually just use it now to practice a boss or test a gear setup I plan to use on my iron, that way I don't waste supplies.
