    This is my favourite nail youtube channel ever. I have learned so much from you and I love how you keep everything so simple. Your videos and techniques are also very "home friendly", because its not all gels, acrylics or any other salon-tools that you use that are hard for us at home to get. I love also how healthy you keep the nails and that you don't cut the skin and never overfile the nail bed... ouch! Perfect videos, and we also get to see the color pay off of some polishes which are very much appreciated :)

  • @engelpaajorden

    I think what really makes the difference is your shaping. My nails are changing for the better as I learn to file them as per your instructions, and I never wear polish.
    It makes sense though, that wearing polish will make the nails arch and look more narrow, if it makes them retain water. When the middle of the nail swells, the sides must come down. That's physics. Been thinking that when I watch your beautiful work over and over. Thank you for sharing your craft 🙏🏼

  • @dampcloth
    @dampcloth ปีที่แล้ว +18

    That's how I shape my nails too: first I straighten the sidewalls (or make them as parallel as can be), then I shape the curve of the free edge and then I round the corners. I also noticed my nails started growing less flared since I got better at shaping them. I really liked the length she had when the shellac was removed. They should look even better in another month.

    I discovered your videos because my nails were ruined by dry manicures with efile, not carefully done. I’ve learned so much listening to you and I’m so grateful for all the work you’re doing to help educate about nails ! Thank you so much Ana !

      Main reason why I started doing my own manis, including shellac, is because once a technician removed mine with an efile😭😭😭 Figured even if I don’t do a perfect job I won’t damage my nails as much as she did that time

    Anna, I really love your comment around 20:10….that it’s important to look at the nails from different angles because that’s how we look at them. I don’t know how many times I’d look at my nails after a salon appointment and see something that looked like it didn’t match, or the point wasn’t centered, or crooked on the sides 🤦🏻‍♀️. After following your channel, I have realized that the salon I went to, wasn’t very good. And, I went there for over ten years, religiously, always having the same tech, who was one of the best there. I wish I had access to someone like you for regular appointments ❤

    This is an old video, but I've been following you for a while and I can attest that nails change shape. I followed your advice and I noticed that the nail bed got a bit elongated. The pink part is larger. I'd say that my nails were more or less in same conditions like your client's and I'm so happy now. I never thought I'd have decent nails.
    I learned to accept my healthy natural nails. They don't need to be a model type. We need to accept that they come in different shapes like anything in nature.

    She has healthy nails. I’m currently recovering from dip nails. I’ll never get them again. Leaving my nails natural. My nails are dry, splitting and has indentations from the drill being used on them. I was wearing clean nail polish but now I have just being using oil and aquafor ointment and leaving them bare until the damage grows out.

    • @TheSalonLife

      Hi Lilly! Try warm oil soaks too. The oils then penetrate deeper into the nail plate protecting it. th-cam.com/video/io335eWf6R4/w-d-xo.html
      PS. The marks on your nails are not really from the drill (e-file) itself but from the e-file being used incorrectly. As you can see I used e-file too and she doesn't have any marks

      @lillyb3588 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@TheSalonLife thank you! I will do the oil soaks. Yes the e-fill was used improperly on my nails. I find that in many nail salons the techs are not trained well enough to use the e-file, they are very rough when they use them.

    Wow what a difference from how my gel polish has been removed! My manicurist only uses the acetone and foil, no clips, no heat and then uses the electric file to remove what is left which is a lot more! No wonder my nails were so damaged! Thanks to your advice and CND rescue, and no polish, my nails are so much healthier and look so much better! I don’t plan on ever doing a gel manicure again unless you can do it!

    I was on a cruise and got a spa day. Had a massage, facial and pedicure and they used CND polish. That was the end of November around Thanksgiving week. I just removed the polish today, February 9th. It had not chipped and looked almost as nice as when I got it done. I am trashing all my polish and switching to CND. I’ve never had polish last on my toes that long.

    I wish you lived closer. I would come and see you every week. But Spain is just a little too far from Alberta. So DYI is gonna have to work for me. I am guilty of cutting the proximal fold because I was uneducated. Now I am doing things the right way. Every time I apply oil (after every hand wash etc.) and or lotion I gently massage the proximal fold back using the pad of my thumb like a cuticle pusher in between my weekly manicures. It’s going to take awhile until the living skin grows properly but my nails are loving me. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge I look forward to all your videos!💜

    I have been learning so much from you! Thank you! I would love if you did a video on proper buffing. I see you buffed lightly to remove the remaining base coat. How do you know if you are buffing to much…it seems like a fine line! Also, do you have to buff slightly before the shellac base coat? My manicurist says you have to do that or the polish won’t adhere properly. Thank you for responding!

    I would LOVE to see a video on what makes a gel or shellac mani last that long, and I think you are the expert to do it!! There are tons of videos on troubleshooting free edge lifting (that's the reason I only get about a week out of my gel manis), but I've tried everything I can find from prep to products to aftercare. What I havent seen is a video with a more holistic analysis like you offer. Is it certain nail types? The composition or health of the nail? The technique/skill of the tech? I just don't have the data to know if it's certain techs, certain products, or certain people who consistently deliver a long-lasting gel mani. But I'd sure love to figure it out so I could switch to every 2 weeks and incur less damage.

    Hello Anna! Love, love Oxblood, it’s my favorite in the dark colors and I’m definitely a square girl. I’ve done my own nails since Jr high school with also going to salons as I got older. The last 3 months I’ve been doing my own nails with regular polish weekly but after seeing that Oxblood I’m getting anxious for a salon manicure 💅🏻. It’s true, if you take care of your nails routinely, you can have beautiful salon looking hands. Thank you for all your informative videos.

    • @TheSalonLife
      @TheSalonLife  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Susana, there are many ways of doing manicures and different countries have different regulations and customs.
      I have the client wash their hands and I wash my hands as well. I do non invasive manicures without cutting any living skin and I only work on nails and skin that appear healthy.
      I do wear gloves when doing pedicures because I use scrub so I don't want to scrub my skin as much.

    Hi, Anna) do you always use pure acetone for cnd shellac removal? What about cnd offly fast? Wouldn't it be too hot for the nails? And wouldn't it damage the nails? Once I tried some regular nail polish remover and it was awfully hot 🤔

    • @TheSalonLife
      @TheSalonLife  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hello, yes I usually use pure acetone because I don't like the oily and slippery surfaces he Offly fast has. I don't know why your nails would be hot after using nail polish remover. Nail polish removers have various ingredients and not all of them contain acetone and some of them don't have enough acetone to properly remove gel polish so I don't recommend using polish remover.
      Nail polish can be removed with acetone but also a few non acetone solvents like ethyl acetate, isopropyl alcohol or propylene carbonate. These ingredients would not remove gel polish.

    Por experiencia sé que el lecho de la uña crece, me mordí las uñas hasta los quince años y poco a poco vi como se alargaba el lecho, ahora tengo cincuenta años y desde hace lo menos treinta las llevo siempre largas, será que me quedó el trauma jjjj Si alguna se rompe, cosa rara, y me las tengo que cortar todas, tengo que tener mucho cuidad por mi hiponiquio que me sobresale del dedo.
    Me releja mucho ver sus manicuras, como trata las uñas con cuidado y lo mucho que aprendo, desde que la sigo me las cuido aún más y las tengo más flexibles con los baños de aceite que son una maravilla
