Good to see restoration efforts on a historical boat. I think we (Americans) are too quick to make judgements on a value of historical projects. It requires someone who can think outside the box. Historical treasures cannot always be measured in a monetary way. Good to see a young couple take on this project. Keep us updated.
Lovely addition David to what Gemma & Simon have filmed to date, loving their vlogs, am sure they have fully 1000% appreciated your support and input and can see you following their progress with great enthusiasm. Well done.
About 30 years ago I considered buying a half rotted out mahogany runabout for next to nothing. Found it in Dallas Texas of all places. After consideration I decided I wasn't up to the task yet. I kind of regret it now having learned that it's fairly common to restore boats that are up to 60% gone. Your project is far more extensive than a little runabout but I have faith in your determination. Wish I could volunteer some time but that's hard to do all the way from Missouri. You have my support from afar. When you get discouraged just think of how it'll feel chugging your way across the channel glancing back at the white cliffs.
I love Gemma's accent and infectious laugh. Reminds me of my wonderful late aunt from Liverpool. That's reason enough for me to want this marvellous project to succeed. I'm definitely subscribing to their channel.
So lovely energy from this couple! And although the restauration goes slowly (very understandable with family and work) it is so much better than the boat being burned!
Hat off to you both, without people like you, we'd have no historic boats and when its finished, you will have a real beauty that anyone would be proud to own. I wonder if due to its history, you'd be able to get a lottery grant as she was a vital part of the Nations history.
What an awesome ship and project. Wishing them all the best in the Restauration process. I know it will take time, but David don’t forget about them and one sweet day when it’s done, make an update vlog please.
David, you are a treasure! You ferret out these kinds of projects and shine a light on them. I will subscribe to ShipHappens immediately; what a worthwhile feat. I look forward to your yearly video turning us on to all the narrowboat crafts at holiday giving time. Take care, stay well. Keep shining the light. ❤
Really proud of Simon and Gemma for taking on the fixing up of this wartime ship. A lot of work has gone into her and their Son and Daughter have lent many a hand. Sarinda is going to be a fine looking ship once she is completed I must say.
I restored a ship, Oneida II, that was built in 1947 and had been abandoned. Only 8 tons but still a big project that took some five years. I can truly understand the project they have taken on.
What a great video - they have a ton of work to do, but with their enthusiasm, anything is possible, It would be great if a local boatyard or marina owner would see this and offer them some facilities to get the boat out of the water to make working on it easier. Ship Happens is a great name for their channel too 😀
I'm glad you had the opportunity to visit Sarinda and meet the family. Thanks for documenting the project. Looking forward to new content on your site as well as Simon and Gemma's.
Wow David! what an absolutely amazing production, it was like reading a very good book that you can't put down until you reach the end, Gemma and Simon are truly amazing, it is so gratifying that people like them are around and prepared to give it a go to restore an historic ship. Well David! I am so pleased with the deviation from canals you have made although I am sure we still require lots more of canals as well (don't want much do we) keep up your great relaxed style of presenting.
Going to have a look at the channel for this boat now. Thanks for highlighting this David. And huge respect and the very best wishes to everyone who gets involved with this project.
Thank you David for bringing this project to our attention. A worthy project, rather than ask you questions about I will go off to their page and see what they have to say. Again, thank you.
Keep up the good work!, my father was an engine mechanic on a "dutch" MTB (9th MTB flotilla), lovely to see how you think about the essence to preserve these pieces of history
Because our local Southwest Texas terrain looks like Mars compared to the English green countryside, we totally enjoy your videos. No navigable rivers here but watching you cruise The Cut has been very entertaining. You have ducks and swans...we have rattlesnakes, mountain lions and tarantulas---LOL. Thank you for making the excellent videos---Good Luck to you always
When you are restoring a sea vessel, it's like building a brand-new boat with all the bits of old boat in the way, wish you luck, hope to see it down here on the south coast one day
Those copper nails look familiar from watching Acorn to Arabella 's hull build. Be great if there was a VC with interest in Historical Boat restoration & a dry dock facility to give her the best working space to reclaim a place back at sea. Awesome story.
A wonderful story. Having done maintenance and restoration work on historic ships in the USA, wish them the best of luck. Working with a wooden ship can get frustrating but also satisfying. Thanks for sharing.
Outstanding, as I would expect from you David and thank you for the very positive light you show on these guys. They are an outstanding family with massive energy and ambition and I hope this video brings more supporters to add to the growing band. My money IS on them getting this task done by the self imposed deadline, recent videos have shown real progress. May I humbly suggest you arrange a follow up in a year or two?
I understand falling in love with a vessel. My former father in law bought an old Navy boat that was used in WW2 . It was a total rebuild from the keel up. He was fortunate enough to have a friend with an empty boat shed that she fit in. He spent over 4 years rebuilding the hull into a small troller to explore the Northwest coast from Washington through BC and into Alaska. He was able to live on it and fish for a few years before cancer took him from the sea. Spending time doing what you love is never a waste of time. RIP- Tony. I’m glad you got to cruise the Passage and chase your salmon.
Thank you for coming over to see us David we had a fantastic day with you, but next time bring your work boots!
Yeah, it’s funny how I “forgot” those, eh? Thanks for having me over, it was such a pleasure to meet you and see your historic ship.

Best of luck and good fortune to Gemma & Simon as they work on this deserving ship.
What an awesome ship and project. Wishing them all the best in the Restauration process. I know it will take time, but David don’t forget about them and one sweet day when it’s done, make an update vlog please.
Go to their channel and support them. They can make some money to help by our views !
That vintage green VHF radio behind them (01:00) is the same as the one in out yacht club... which still works well... worth a few quid now.
“Old school Shippery! I love it! Great vlog. Thank you David. ❤️
What a great video - they have a ton of work to do, but with their enthusiasm, anything is possible,
It would be great if a local boatyard or marina owner would see this and offer them some facilities to get the boat out of the water to make working on it easier.
Ship Happens is a great name for their channel too 😀
I'm glad you had the opportunity to visit Sarinda and meet the family. Thanks for documenting the project. Looking forward to new content on your site as well as Simon and Gemma's.
Cheers
Wow David! what an absolutely amazing production, it was like reading a very good book that you can't put down until you reach the end, Gemma and Simon are truly amazing, it is so gratifying that people like them are around and prepared to give it a go to restore an historic ship. Well David! I am so pleased with the deviation from canals you have made although I am sure we still require lots more of canals as well (don't want much do we) keep up your great relaxed style of presenting.
❤
There is true beauty in that beautiful ship. Im confident you will find it and give new life
Well done
A lovely couple that will do a splendid restoration on the old lady!
Fantastic, well done to you for saving this lovely old ship.
Thanks David for another great video. Those two are wonderful "Can Do" people!
Ohhh! Those copper nails are really clever, that's neat. A pain in the backside, of course, but- a brilliant one!
Great video David--I wish the young couple all the best
Cheers
Going to have a look at the channel for this boat now. Thanks for highlighting this David. And huge respect and the very best wishes to everyone who gets involved with this project.
I have been a long time watcher of CTC, This is one of my favorite, all the luck to them
One hell of a project can't help but admire the taking on of such a task. Really enjoy these type of films your doing, so interesting.
Ambitious, I hope they can do it. Best of luck to them, from a retired U.S. Navy Sailor.
I've never been a very good gambler but I do have faith in Simon & Gemma to get done
Yeah same, they got this
A very ambitious project but, I think, well worth it to save this historic vessel. Wish them all the best.
What an inspiring couple, I hope all they dream for comes true.
Good to see you well and about! Great Vlog old Bean!
What a wonderful thing your doing. Thank you for sharing with all of us.
A wonderful story. Having done maintenance and restoration work on historic ships in the USA, wish them the best of luck. Working with a wooden ship can get frustrating but also satisfying. Thanks for sharing.
Love your channel and the folks @ShipHappens!
Thank you 😊 x
Epic project!! Thank you for the narrated update. Well done good sir. To the the family, keep on keeping on.
Probably in a few years, I think! It’s like a canal restoration; slow progress
