Looks great for those of us getting older and having a hard time looking through a refractometer. Hence why I've started moving from Red Sea test Kits to Hanna.
Liked and subscribed. I need one of these. Okay I'd like one of these. Wonder how it compares to the Icecap. I've been fairly happy with the Icecap. Had a few issues with it though. Hopefully this is a better product all around. I believe the first generation Icecap with the cup can't be calibrated but the second gen without the cup can. Hope this product gets better reviews. I bought a hanna checker ph as well and just so costly buying all the calibrations and a big pain in the but as well when I thought it would be simpler. Anyway, my red sea refractometer sucks. inconsistent readings over and over again and my other one started doing the same so I might keep this now. What i want to know is the ph one has to be stored in a fluid that adds more expense on top of it all. This dosnt or does it? Looks like I just rinse and put cap back on or do I need the storage solotion they call it?
Just yesterday, my 7yo daughter and I started measuring and charting our tank perimeters daily (temp, salinity, pH, etc). My float hydrometer read 1.022 the other day, but the LFS's refractometer came up 1.024 when I asked them to test for me. I think a digital meter would be easier for my daughter to use (although maybe not as cool), but I'm wondering how often and how expensive calibration is.
This has never matched my refractometer, even right after both were calibrated! I assumed my refractometer was off but pretty sure its this. I have it set to specific gravity being thats what I am used to. After I follwed all the steps it says use so I didint right way being I didnt want o get any chemicals in my tank! So if you dont shut it off or use right away it will say error! I tried it again and just shut it off after but since my refractometer and this are always about 4 points off I decide I wanted a way to verify this is right I always just used rodi and that does say zero but when you put it in to its solution to test it tell me 1022 when it is clearly 3500 ppt!! My tank crash over low salinity that was 1019 for at least 2 weeks and I have been trusting this for about a month and I am sure it is wrong! I should be able to test the calibration fluid! If not then what can I test besides rodi? Its no wonder all my lps corals died. My softies still aint looking so hot and my tank is cleaned every week and levels are perfect now! I dont even know what to do now about mixing my water! I am going to change it back to ppt and then check the fliud but it shouldnt matter 35 ppt is 1026 so that fluid should read 1026 not 1022!

Seems like a very nice and easy way to test salinity . That it is waterproof is a very nice extra bonus.

now this is a good piece of mind for your salinity! not to mention butterfingers over here can be pissed when he drops it in the water !

How often dose it need to be “re calibrated”? Every use?
I have the Milwaukee now. This seems much simpler.
