Becoming Thai Living as Myanmar in Chiang Mai

People from Myanmar have moved back and forth between their home country and Northern Thailand (Lanna) since the pre-modern era. Chiang Mai, as the principal city in Northtern Thailand, has long been their destination over many generations.

This is a film about the continuity and persistence of the Myanmar community in Chiang Mai through interviews with two groups from the community: descendants of the older waves of migrations who now identity as Thai, but who can tell stories of thier ancestors who came from Burma in the nineteenth century: and Myanmar people who arrived in Chiang Mai in the twenty-first century.
