I have only been lasering for a couple of months and although there are lots of people doing tutorials, I must admit you are the one I watch and listen to. You seem to explain thing a lot more succinctly and make it easier to follow. Many thanks for the time you put into your video's and I look forward to many more. Steve in the UK.
Wow! Thank you so much Steve! I really appreciate it! I'm a slow learner, so I try and explain it to myself the way I would learn it the best. I often have to practice several times for it to sink in, which is why I usually do a technique several times in a video.
As a regular user of Lightburn (and other design programs), quite often I need a reminder on how to do things like this. A series of 2 minute memory joggers would be a great idea.
Yeah, but I can't say hello in 2 mins 🤪 let alone explain the process. And probably 95% of folks watching would have no idea what I'm talking about and ask for a longer version 🤓
Hello Rich, Dave from L.I., been awhile..Great Video,Never too Old to learn more struff.. Working with Lightburn for 5 Yrs. now,Never tried this, just got the hang of it.....Be Well,,Brother
Now that I've got it all set up, your videos will certainly lead the way for me as I learn to use it. It's just a TS-3 but with a super charged exhaust and adjustable air assist. Wanted to eliminate anything and everything that could go wrong before I started...Thanks, and please do realize that you're right on track when it comes to "long winded" as you say...I mean right on track in the way that everything is explained in detail slowly and perfectly for those who want to learn. I'll be the next guy in line recommending you for any beginner I'm sure...
Rich, great video as usual! Watching this reminded me of questions that I have while node editing. Could you do a video explaining how to use all the features/shortcuts available while node editing? Things like extend and smooth sound cool but I don't know what they are supposed to do or how they work! Thanks for your consideration.
Your video’s are getting even better …. The use of the red arrow if a great idea and explanation is spot on … it’s like my books *wood working for dummies* awesome job young man! ( I can say that at my age) if I ever get a laser I’ll be able to set it up easily because of you !! Lasermatic is looking good at this point … ( i read something about it have a pass through? )
Thanks so much for this, Rich! I've learned a ton from your awesome tutorials. I am trying to set up a 3 track cribbage board using this method for hole placement. I wondered if there is an easy way to do an offset inward for the subsequent tracks' holes, keeping them aligned with first track (or to shift them in anyway, if possible)? It's a coffee mug-shaped board, so it's wonky. Thanks for any insight you can offer.
I just started lasering ( 2 months) and love these videos, best way to learn LightBurn:-). I couldn't find a way for a curved line to insert rectangular patterns that are always at a 90 degree angle to the line? Is it shown in some other video?
If you use a community laser in say a makers space could I copy it preferences into the space computer then the next user could change want the needed!
Thanks for Yet Another Super Informative vidclip .... Now Another Question ????.... When one does 'TEXT' along a path, circle, oval.... One ends up with the 'Base Shape' that you can't delete without the 'Text' going back to a 'Straight Line' .... ????? In the last example you did HERE .... The 'Random Line' .... Can one place 'TEXT' along That Line and then delete the 'Base Line' in the same way that you did the 'Stars' .... Thanks, I really Appreciate ALL your Wonderful 'Tutorials' .... So well explained .... Cheers to You and ALL from ChCh, NZ ..... Keith
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy Thanks a Stack .... YES.... That is what I had done prior to asking .... :-) :-) :-) Just thought that there might be a 'simpler' method.... Just like the options in This Vidclip .... :-) :-) :-) Best to You, Yours and All from ChCh, NZ
I just want to confirm do we need to have the snap function active or will it do this automatically… I’m a newwwwwbie but love your videos because I’m learning quickly.
I'm just wondering if there is a specific reason for ensuring that the shape is aligned to the second shapes' origin? I ask because, just for test, I did this with a large circle with a smaller circle around it. I snapped the small circle to the larger one (after converting it to a path) , and ran the "copy along path" function. It worked as you showed (never knew about this, so thank you for that) and THEN I checked to see where the origin was. Sure enough, I didn't have the shape anywhere near the origin of the circle. Just wondering if that does matter for some reason I'm not seeing? Thanks!
Another really interesting tutorial I wish I'd known about this sooner, my bad! On a different note are you ever going to get around to a layered 3D map?
Enjoy your video's. I am just a brand new (OLD) explorer oof laser technology. I am contemplating purchase of a laser but wanted to know more about how to use the tool. To that end I was thinking that I would download the 30 day trial of lightburn to explore using it. My question is will it woe=rk without having the laser and will there be challenges to syncing it to a tool when I get one?
@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy i use a PC & mouse... there must be a way of doing "freehand" using a mouse... if not, a suggestion to lightburn might prompt that feature on next update.
I do lots of drawing with the mouse. Click, drag just a bit and let go and keep dragging and moving, clicking, dragging, and than moving. It takes some time to learn, but once you do, it works really well.
i’m having an issue when setting the size of the object I want to cut an item 224.500mm wide by 117.250 mm tall, I notice that the item the laser cut is considerably smaller than my size settings. How can I fix this?

Glad you liked it James!
Quick question, is there a way to change the origin point of the path
Yes Darrell, I cover it at about 6 1/2 minutes in on this video: th-cam.com/video/hJT-WthK1Gw/w-d-xo.html

Great tutorial, Rich. I often forget these hidden features if not used for a while. Awesome job 👍

Fantastic tutorials. I am still learning (i.e. I have only had a couple of weeks with the software) but you helped a lot!

Great video! Thanks!
Thanks so much!
Thanks so much for this Rich, it's a great help. Would copy along path be a useful way to add slots/tabs with specific spacing around an object?
Yes Steve, you could absolutely use it for that! That's one way to get exact spacing.
You're a very good instructor!
I appreciate that!
Thank you Sir.
Thanks for watching!

Just put the line (or the path, whatever it is) on a tool path, T1 or T2 instead of deleting it.

The snap function is always active Deb. You can define the settings in the Device Settings, the wrench and screwdriver icon.

No, it appears you no longer have to use the green origin point. That's great to know!!!
Another really interesting tutorial I wish I'd known about this sooner, my bad! On a different note are you ever going to get around to a layered 3D map?
Probably not Steve, because the tutorial the way I would want to do it would take way too long.
Good morning Rich. If you had a head and you wanted stars around it, could you offset it and use the offset for the path?
Yes, absolutely Michael.

Yes, you'll have the option to add a fake device if you don't actually have one on installation.
Ritch... how are you drawing freehand with the pencil tool? I'm doing something wrong. All I get are straight lines, and an arc...
Most of the drawing I do is on a tablet, unless I'm making basic shapes.
@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy i use a PC & mouse... there must be a way of doing "freehand" using a mouse... if not, a suggestion to lightburn might prompt that feature on next update.
