Matt specifically said that even a wish spell can't overrule a gods power so a wish worded like this wouldn't work
@@corberus3119 he said that a carefully worded wish would. It wouldn't be easy to do it, and Sam would have to be careful of how he worded it, but he might be able to alter the deal.

But as a side note, I kinda like the idea of giving his mom credit. She was a big part of his life, from what I understand, and her loss really wrecked him.

After a little more than a year…..
I started just a couple of months ago. It’s been totally worth it. I’m going to take a break before I start on the next campaign to catch up on my books.
I know I am late!!, but it’s been a blast and very intriguing and a eye opener for me and it got me to try and dive more in to role play!!

I felt a lot of the time Matt was talking to Liam about his mother, he was speaking through their characters but really was saying genuine words he felt towards Liam and his situation. Amazing ppl smh

In my alternate headcanon, Keyleth remembers she's a druid and casts "speak with animals." The raven then says, "Hello Keyleth," in a very familiar voice. Fade to black.
@@SambaMike Maybe she thought it was more comforting to have faith rather than knowing the truth, which could have been something she didnt want it to be.
For a while, when looking at the fan art, I had really hoped it would end on something like this. I am only at the break of this episode, so I haven't seen that part yet, but reading that this actually happens made me smile. :)

Three simple words perfectly in character and such a right choice in the moment. Everyone else was concerned with how they felt, but Grog was the only one who cared how Vax felt.
He is the more warrior mind set. Accepts this is what he is doing, or did do. But is certainly yes still concerned for him
I didn’t even think of that when I had first watched this, but the same goes for when Scanlan was gonna leave the group and Grog asked what his mother’s name was. Everyone was thinking about themselves and how they felt, but Grog just wanted to know how Vax felt and wanted to know more abt Scanlan’s parents, who he was very clearly distraught over. Grog may have a low intelligence, but he’s got a massive heart to make up for his intellect.
This is the moment that broke me.
I was a bit sad that Vax didnt really reply to that.

Liam using his final level to take one in Druid for Druidcraft?!?!?!?! Are you kidding me?! All time best level dip, hands down!
That's what broke me. All the other stuff I could hold back the tears, but him using his final level to just make that one beautifully simple gesture... it was a wrecking ball to the dam holding back the flood of emotion.
@@Stoned_Pony100%, if you havent watched C2 yet Liam is INCREDIBLY good at making some beautiful RP moments. He can push the rules sometimes but it's beautiful when he lets it out

@@Mnkeys Ya, I started oddly enough with campaign 2 and then started campaign 1, and his character is LEGIT the best in C2. Such an amazing story. I can't even say which I love more, Vox Machina or Mighty Nein, because both are so incredibly amazing. Can't wait to start C3 soon!

The thing that hurts the most for me is that everyone will get to live their lives and pass on and be with Vax again in a normal amount of time. Keyleth, who loves him the most, has to wait the longest. Ugh fucking heartbreaking.
She could always just jump from a cliff as a goldfish or something. Or move on just like Vax said he would want to for her
@@TempestLM She has a duty to her people. Killing herself would be abandoning them even if she finds a successor first. Keyleth is a very emotional and impulsive person so it would take her an incredible amount of time to open up again like Marisha said. She may date again, maybe. I imagine Keyleth actually becoming wise in her years so she wouldn't be the Keyleth from C1 forever like many Critters like (want) to think.

I feel like seeing Matt cry is so much more moving. Everyone else is in character. Of course it's very emotional but seeing Matt wipe years away was gut wrenching in a different way.
I think you accidentally typed “years” instead of “tears”, however poetically both are true.
To think Sam who had never played DnD before asked his friend Liam to make him the worst possible character in the game. Liam thought up a Gnome, Bard, and after 5 years, who would have thought that the fate of the whole world would have depended on the actions, and sacrifice of this Bard Gnome. Sam and Liam's reactions were amazing, and true. Beautiful and goes to show that if played well and true, there are no bad Characters. Thank you Vox Machina!
Bear in mind they started in Pathfinder. Bards (and gnomes) are godawful in 3.5 and Pathfinder. Gnomes are a pretty solid race in 5e, and Bards are borderline overpowered.
Lol I made a gnome bard as my first character because I wanted to be the most annoying shit in the game :)
Sam/Scanlan is the exact reason I play a bard, albeit a human one
I normally go for a Wizard, necromancer typically but occasionally something else for variety. After bards became beefed up in 5e and before I found Crit Role, I tried my first Bard (I opted for a Kobold, because it was funny). It was actually hilarious because I was also mentoring the DM for the game, so I ended up being the BBEG and messed with everyone, I won in my villainous designs.

Guys. Campaign One’s last role was a natural 20, and Campaign Two’s first role was a natural 20. Both by Travis. What a beautiful parallel.

I watched this while walking my newborn to sleep at nights, listened while walking my dog, through a fire evacuation, through covid, and through the largest winter storm in my areas history twice. I started this a single man sleeping on a makeshift bed and barely making ends meet. I now have a beautiful psychotic toddler, a very similar dog and a woman whom made the world brighter. Thank you Vox Machina

I'm gonna be crying like a baby if that 9th level counterspell ever gets animated.
I can imagine Scanlan hearing Vecna start the spell to teleport. As the world start playing in slow motion, he sees his friends struggling to hold Vecna down. Knowing he can't let him get away but realizing what he's giving up in the process. I remember how resigned Sam was as Scanlan casting it and I remember how distraught he was doing it. But it had to be done. He saved the world but he couldn't save his friend.
Even Joe was trying to comfort him and he super didnt come off as that type of player, let alone character... expected and got that reaction from Liam, but too real of a moment for the unflappable Sam Reigel.
I can’t remember a time Sam actually cried during the campaign. Does my memory fail me? It was such a big decision for Scanlan.

To think geek and sundry came to him offering to make the show imagine if Matt denied the offer ,the show would never had become the amazing phenomenon it is.
This needs more thumbs up and bumped higher. I mean this has been a crazy 5 months of binging for me but 5 years to them. There is no way to feel nothing for these people/characters. A part of my soul now flys with Vax, and in my Champaign I am flying so low under the RQ's radar I must have stealthed checked at 50. When she finds me it's gonna be a test to even Matt Mercers level of DMing. My DM does not truly know whom he let 'appear' in his world, but it's gonna be awesome when they all figure it out.

You can really see the pain in matts face in vax's scene. You can read the 'no i have to do this' in his eyes.
I love Matt so much. Lesser DMs would have accepted some cheap way to let Vax off the hook there but Matt knew that it needed to be done or there would be no high stakes in the future.
OK but when Vax said he'd see them all again, I can only imagine that when each of their time comes he's the one that they see first to guide them on.
I imagine that's what he meant. Although one doesn't know what exactly what Vax's duties as the Raven Queen's Champion are on the other side, one could presume that part of them would be to guide certain souls as they pass on, and one would definitely assume that the souls of his found family and their friends would be topping that roster. I just wonder what the order they'll pass away in, and what those interactions will look like.

Not even going to pretend otherwise. I don’t cry at shows etc. very often, but Vax’s goodbye had me full-on ugly crying. Like the moment would’ve been sad enough on its own, but combined with the devastation on the cast’s faces… that hurt. That hurt a lot.

This episode had me bawling quietly muttering "Not yet, no not yet" I was not ready for Vax to leave and I ugly cried through it all. Only taking a break for a small laugh upon reading the bottom of Sam's water jug "Remeber when we were cows"

reminds me of the Bridgeburners in Malazan Book of the Fallen. That series has a deck that's kinda like tarot that's used for seeing the future, only the people who can actually use it attract at least a modicum of attention from every single being represented by those cards. When the gods on those cards are actually paying attention, readings get intense, and most people who can use them are careful about using them for things that are high stakes.
The Bridgeburners gamble with them.

If your character is familiar with the deck and very paranoid, just remember if you're a wealthy person to bequeath all wealth and worldly possessions to friends or family, remove all magic items from your person, and set the deck on a table or have someone else hold it before drawing from the deck, just in case.
_Ruin_ is the only thing in the deck that would actually be difficult for a Level 20 party with literal god powers to recover from. _Talon_ a bit less so, but since the vestiges aren't listed as true artifacts you'd want to take them off just in case.

I can't express how appreciative I am to my 22 year old daughter and 16 year old son for convincing their old mom to play and become obsessed with D&D in her 40's. Critical Role and Dimension 20 were their watch recommendations on learning more about the ins and outs of this fantastic game. It's been an amazing experience binge watching and listening to the entirety of campaign 1 the last 3 months during most of my waking hours at work, home, etc...
A little late to the game, but a forever fan now. It was a joy and honor, and I have learned so very much. Thank you.

This is really wholesome, I've gone the opposite way and taught my 12 year old about D&D and she's fully on board, hoping one day if I have grankids have a large family campaign

People of the Internet… I’m grieving. Because I think like many of you, this show supported me through so much. It’s been some hard years… and Vox Machina made it just bright enough to keep wanting to fight.

Watching this for the first time. Percy's whole moment after Vax is gone where he talks about what the Raven Queen told him is powerful. But when Vex asked him if it was crazy if she thought she could still talk to her brother through the shrine, and his answer was a laughing "How would I know?" is just such an incredible moment. The man who was convinced he knew everything.
Honestly, there's a lot of moments in this that break me, but nothing gets to me quite like Percy quietly saying "I think I was going to be a clockmaker once". The call of a broken man that only ever wanted to live peacefully with his family, thrust into a world larger than him so he stood defiant before it. Simply fantastic, and I'm glad I spent highschool watching this story unfold, and watching this community grow and flourish. Thank you Critical Role, and thank you Geek & Sundry, for getting this crazy ride started.
And then, in the epilogue, he builds a clocktower. I fucking lost it at that moment, like, damn it, Taliesin, have i not cried enough during this episode?! They are all great, but i swear, sometimes Percy/Taliesin just says something, almost like a passing line, and it fucking shreds me to pieces. What a story he had.

Vax's goodbye was one of the most powerful things I've ever seen. There wasn't a single dry eye or solemn face among the cast, even Matt. It was amazing to see even him caught up in the raw emotion of that moment, and I have to wonder if he ever once thought to himself, "I can change this. Find some way to get Vax out of it so he can live happily ever after with his family." But he chose this beautiful, powerful, terrifying, heartbreaking story. And we love him for it.
I rewatch this episode from time to time to remind myself its okay to cry.
Seeing Matt get emotional at that just reminds me of the look on his face when Sam pulled out that level 9 counterspell. It was just the deepest, purest horror. I think he desperately wanted Vax to have his happy ending too ;-;
I believe Matt and Liam probably had a word about how this pact with the Raven Queen should play out in the end at some point. Matt isn't a GM that would force a character death as an element of storytelling (as opposed to a death that occured fair and square within gameplay) unless he knew that the player was onboard with that kind of sad ending for his story. The option to let Vax have a happy-ever-after or at least a happy-for-quite-a-long-time-after was definitely open, since the actual phrasing of the pact with the Raven Queen was vague enough to not specifically state when she would claim him. It was only said that after Vecna was defeated, he would stay with her for good, but not that she would immediately come to collect. It would have been possible to interpret it just as: "The next time you return to me after this is done (i.e. the next time you die for whatever reason), you stay (i.e. you can't be risen again)."
When I saw mat was crying I was already on the verge and that pushed me over I couldn’t hold it together anymore

October 2023. I've just finished watching Campaign 1 for the first time. A lot of people probably told this already but I just want to be one more of them: Thank you so much for Critical Role. I've felt less alone with the adventures of Vox Machina.

I don't even know how these people I don't know made me care so much about fictional characters. I laughed and cried, yelled at the screen and even developed a crush or two on what is essentially make believe characters. And yet it feels like I knew them. ❤❤❤

Why are you surprised about crying for a finale of an rpg? It's just like any other show and by the way TTRPGs proved themselves (to me and my friends) to be so much more emotional than any series.

To be fair, Vox Machina have more air time than The Simpsons OR Law & Order: SVU (the longest running shows on US television). Time that is spent with just Vox Machina and their lives instead of the jokes or one off story lines.

Whilst I fully understand the grief and anger, absolutely get it, it does also spoil it a bit that Vex is just so unaccepting. It was Vax's choice, and he always did everything for someone else, never for himself. Always.

Okay, wow. I started the campaign in January after a friend recommended over a year previous. As soon as I realised that some of my favourite voice actors were part of the series, I started watching. I started the campaign a pretty long time ago but never managed to get past the first episode. However, after a really bad bout of depression, I needed a distraction and sat down to watch again. I have watched every single day since mid January 2022, up until today, for the very first time. I could sit here and write all day about how amazing this campaign has been but I would literally be here for hours. I guess, for this campaign, it's the last opportunity I have to leave my episodely comment that they all need Oscars lol
I know that the guys won't see this, but I hope they know how much they are loved. Their talent, their content, their enthusiasm, their effort.. Everything about them and what they do is more than some people give in a lifetime. I'm so thankful and grateful to have been able to experience this entire story. It was a privilege to be a part of this, even though I'm years too late to the party.
I wish that they all could know how much watching this has meant to me (and no doubt so many others). It's kept my depression at bay, given me something to look forward to every day when I come home from work, immersed me in a whole new world where I can escape to. Not to mention it's re-ignited my passion for DnD. So many years since I last played and now I'm a good few weeks into a new campaign with some friends, playing a half-elf druid of the arctic circle.
But yeah, sorry to anyone who has has taken the time to read through all of this, just ignore my ramblings.
TLDR; Thank you from the bottom of my heart to Matt, Sam, Liam, Laura, Travis, Taliesin, Marisha, and all of the other wonderful guests for telling such a wonderfully enthralling, deeply emotional, and insanely addictive story. I'm overwhelmed with emotion that it's over but I'm thankful that I've got C2 and the new C3 to look forward to when I pull myself together.

That moment when Matt told Vax that his mother was waiting for him and telling him 'I'm so proud of you' and then seeing Liam's face, I suddenly remembered that Liam's mother had passed away a year (or so) before... my heart...
I think Matt did it in that purpose. The way that RPG is catartic and therapeutic never ceases to amaze me. Liam truly needed that, and it warmed my heart seeing it.
Only time I remember seeing Matt cracking, on the verge of tears. That was what got to me the most.

I know that no one will read this, but I just need to share how beatiful this experience has been. I started the campaign in March 2021 and today, July 14, 2022 I finally came to the end. I lost count of the times this show made me cry and laugh. It's been amazing and heartbreaking and lovely and the most fun I've ever had. Thank you

I have just finished the final episode tonight, damn this made me more teary than any movie ever did, such great actors, now to catch up on campaign 2
Man, I love these people so, so much. Aside from the wonderfully fun, zany, hilarious and gut wrenching stories we've gotten to experience, it's the genuine love and friendship between them all that is the trur gift. Thank you, everyone involved in making critical role happen, it has been and continues to be a most cherished gift to us all
The ending moment with Keyleth and the raven broke me. I didn't cry as much during these last two episodes as I wish I had -- but that did it for me. I was totally hoping for a surprise, happy twist but oh well. I feel so bad for her though; her ending was so bittersweet: beautiful and sad at once.

Something interesting about Percy throughout this whole campaign is how much he denies his grief. Throughout his entire quest to kill the Briarwoods, it feels like he never brings up what his parents meant to him, why he actually cared about them dying. Vax wore his emotions on his sleave, while Percy made quips and pacts with evil.
But in the very last episode of the campaign, after losing someone who he feels deserves to live more, Percy finally finds himself breaking down and admitting his anguish.
There's a reason why he's my favorite character in this campaign by far.
When a man stops running from his shadow, he can begin to understand that there is nothing to run from.
It took me a little over 2 months of not watching anything except this campaign to finish it and I've been crying most of this episode. I regret nothing

I spoiled myself a bit when looking up characters on the wiki. I didnt know how it came into play but it says he is also druid. I was like what when? I completely forgot and when he did that I almost burst out into tears. I mean no shade or negativity but out of everything going on in the story, I think Vax/Keyleth gave me the least amount of interest. However. For me to be as emotional as I was when watching the last episode. Especially his goodbyes. It just shows how good they all are. To destroy someone who kind of zoned out sometimes with their characters in 115 episodes
@@mikea3098 I was pretty invested in their relationship just cause I think Liam's RP was majestic. Vax was always my fav character from this campaign, and the way his journey ended was just too emotional for me. I cried like a baby.
