I have this saying. “Everything will eventually sell”, I do have several items, mostly Tupperware seals, that are slow to sell, but my cost of goods are less than 50 cents each and I’m a patient man.

... and matching that, "Everything has its price" or, as my late father always put it, "Something's only worth what someone will pay for it." Finding the right price is the key to selling, buying at the *right* price is the key to _successful_ reselling.

That is so easy to ship. You just wrap it in one layer of bubble wrap and take a un-put-together box that is larger than the frame. Slide it into the flat un-put-together box and tape up the edges of the box and send it on its way. I use that method successfully for lots of flat unbreakable items. I do write "do not bend" on the outside of the box, not for the post office, as they pay no attention to that, but for the customer, so they see I did the utmost to be careful about shipping the item to them.

Probably 8% of my items don't sell, or sell at way under what I paid. Most of that is older stock, when I was learning things. Some of the items are also "Rescue Items", old pieces that I simply couldn't bear seeing them trashed.

We all have to start somewhere. The important thing is that you are learning what things sell for so you don't continue to make the same mistakes down the road. My first go at reselling was with things I knew their worth resold. Now I'm testing out items from out of my house. What sells, sells. As long as I get above garage sale price, I'll be happy. But it's giving me a feel for what goes as an everything seller without putting out any funds to try reselling it.

I like selling buying and selling video games I’m making money I suppose I do terrible book keeping, but I know my sales since I started at the end of January is around 1800(counting shipping) and I have around 2000 listed still getting little trickle sales 1-2 a day had a few real good 5-6 game days. I took a hit buying bulk bubble mailers a thermal printer and bulk bubble wrap for selling consoles. I also took a hit by keeping one of every console for testing, but all in all it looks like I’m super close to being in profit in just alittle more than a month.

Just finished my first complete year . I have a lot of mistakes in my store and am coming to realize selling an item to break even makes no sense. Chancing a return to make nothing is why i just donate to the church thrift and get my receipt. Learning to let go in cleansing and important to learning to not get emotionally attached. Kevin once said " if you cant afford to lower the price you shouldn't have bought it in the first place". Make better choices folks. Bad choices will suck your time marking down and relisting. Do it right the first time...price it right , look it up, if its crap put it back....lol

Unsold inventory? As close to zero as makes no difference. If it's been listed then, one way or another, it will sell, either at a reduced price or in a bundle. Almost the only items that 'disappear' from my inventory are those that are withdrawn for personal use.
Of course, there are pieces that never get listed and just get tossed out; that's almost inevitable when buying job lots at auction. I simply account for those in the cost per item for the saleable items. The other consideration is time to sell; I'm not in a particular hurry and many of my listings come firmly inti the 'long tail' category; Just last week I sold a CD that had been listed for 8 years--it took virtually no space, the lkisting was already done and my store operates within its 'free' listings allowance, so why not leave it? It had been ended, reviewed and relisted (or rather 'sold similar') periodically to check the price was still competitive and to add in any new item specifics. I know the original listing date only because it is in the SKU fiekd (I store media in date order for ease of picking).

Kevin, what about the time looking for an item that sells? Unorganized resellers search and search. Early on I set up a great system. That being said, I still have an occasional item I can’t instantly locate. A yearly match up (like you just did) items stored to items listed. So important to do. Every company does an inventory so why not a reseller.

Hello doggies. Hello No-name! I agree with Kevin about fast nickels being preferred to slow dimes. Then you can take the nickel and buy more stuff to turn into more nickels. Slower quarters...that takes more thought, and knowledge of how much slower. When I was selling, my no-sell was probably about 10%. Times and styles changed between when I bought and when I sold, and some things just plain didn't move no matter how cheaply i priced them. They needed to be pulled and lotted up or just donated.

I wish folks on you tube would tell how many items they have listed. It would give a better idea about sales performance. I mean its interesting to know how many items you sell in a given period of time but knowing that number out of how many items you have available would be helpful.

I feel like people tend to buy more items when you have a larger inventory. I wasn't getting any sales until I got over 50 items listed. I'm under 200 items, so I have sporadic sales. Some items have sold within 15 minutes of me listing it. Other items randomly sell. But I feel like people take you more seriously as a seller when you have a larger inventory for people to look through. I may be wrong, but I have seen this be the trend for me.

I don’t know my percentage. Some of the oddest things sell for me and I wouldn’t know what those items are without taking chances. I think everyone is different and our knowledge is different. Also we are all in different areas… some really good items are more common place in some areas than others. Everyday I learn something new and other sellers shouldn’t judge. Sometimes instinct is a good thing to follow.

You are absolutely right about looking at it from how much you are making per hour. ROI analysis is really more important if you were to scale it up and hire people, make it something more than what just you can do. And it is just a lot of fun to find cool stuff to sell.

I consider my thrifting as entertainment. It's a hobby, not a J O B. One nice thing is I make money on my hobby, which is pretty nice. My dad's hobby was golf. He spent thousands of dollars every year on this hobby. Never sell is about 10% for me. Now some items sell, TWO YEARS after I listed them. I call these items "dead stock". It's stuff I have listed that just didn't sell. Any day I sell one of these items is a GREAT day. My dead stock is a reflection of bad buys.

I'm guessing around 30%. And in 2024 I'm testing a new plan to trim the dead wood from the bottom of the inventory. I won't know how it's going until around June, but so far, overall sales have increased in the store while at the same time traffic is down. (More people are buying multiple items per order.)

  • @findsanddeals
    @findsanddeals 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

I think if you check items before listing to see if they sell/have sold in the past, AND you have space to just hang on to things, most items will eventually sell. A for sales to viewers---sales are sales. The money pays the bills either way. I don't understand people's issues with that at all. If they want similar viewer sales, they can start a channel & grow it up to the level of yours as well.

  • @Junkinsally

Definitely not tracking the time to process correctly. But then, those who only spend a few minutes photographing and listing can see that reflected in their listings. Definitely can improve your photos and descriptions for better ROI. You have to be mindful about putting quantity over quality.

I have way too much long tail stuff. It sells eventually for about what I would like. Over time I have gotten better at sourcing. I’ve doubled my sales from this time last year but I wasn’t full time then. I am looking for work though because it’s not enough consistently for me but it’s been enough that I can job hunt without starving. If one of my channels would take off that would help but 16 years 8 channels and 10k+ videos that doesn’t seem likely.
