Quality long lasting electronics require quality manufacturing and attention to detail, such as the part substitutions you mentioned. I’m really happy to see that you guys continue to make your products in the US despite the challenges in the current economy. Keep up the great work! Someday I will definitely get down to Durango and request a factory tour!

I put a Soundtraxx decoder into my SW1500 and before wrapping up the project and putting the shell on and cleaning everything up, I decided that I'm going to put it into my GP38-2 instead. I'm going to FINALLY get it fitted in the coming months, sound and all, and I'm really looking forward to it. I really appreciate the videos that you've have released and continue to release.
I can concur with the quality I have gotten from Soundtraxx decoders. I have numerous issues with TCS decoders and sound garble as well as not getting the programming just right because they push that audio assist which doesn't help at all when dialing in a loco to what I want. Don't even get me started on the lack of sound quality I've had with decoders from ESU. One either sounds too early 2000's or the other is trying to rip my eardrums apart with jet engine noises. When talking about replacement parts you mentioned how you test and can make sure the right part goes on it, sadly a model manufacturer allowed models with a subpar decoder to leave the factory and I received the models not functioning properly and put in a warranty claim, sadly after the work was done the models still did not function properly. I wish it was easy to access the decoders in the models as I would just swap them out with working ones. I'd have to say the only full blown issue I've had with Soundtraxx wasn't even a decoder board issue but a packaging one. I ordered a Steam-2 and got a Big Steam decoder. Luckily enough I could switch the decoder from a larger steamer for my smaller steamer and toss the Big Steam in the larger engine and it sounds better with it, so not much an issue but a happy accident I guess. The customer service is on point and the products are A+.

@@SoundtraxxDCC when I received the incorrect decoder I did inform customer service of the issue mainly in case others ended up having the same issue. While it was funny having my K4 sound like a big boy for a couple minutes my Pennsy J1 now sounds like the power house it’s supposed to be and my K4 got the decoder out of the J1. Perks of the 2200 9-pin design just plug and play. I do hope more variants of the Pennsy whistles can be recorded, the banshee is to shrilly and the 3 chime sounds a bit off.
Thank you for being a patriot of this country. My very first decoder was from this company. I knew nothing about decoders and had it installed by Harvey's trains out of Missouri. Never failed me the whole time I ran it. Even with a crappy controller to run it.
Very glad to hear you do this guys; I've decided to go down the dcc-ready route wherever possible when it comes to pre-orders and second hand purchases, not only because it's cheaper but also because I can fit what decoder I want, and it's quickly becoming apparent that want is your decoders. I have my second Blunami-installed loco ready to go, with another not too far behind it. I suspect I am now officially hooked.

Hi George, nice video. I recently finished installing a TSU-100 Tsunami2 Steam2 decoder in a brass Sunset Models Long Island (ex-Pennsy) H6sb 2-8-0 (You can see the video on my TH-cam channel.).
A lot of modellers like to be able to download sounds onto decoders,but from what I've seen much time is wasted for little gain.The amount of preloaded options on Soundtraxx is enough for me.Have also seen people reset these other decoders,to find the 'factory settings' are the previous adjustments,and not what they are after,so they may have to wipe the decoder and start again.Modellers should ask themselves,do they want to spend most of their time on a programmer,or just run trains?
Yes, we have sound files for most models and tools to alter those sounds to better match your preference or model. If we allowed downloadable sounds it would make the customer the end of our quality control process and we prefer to take on all of that responsibility!
We are sorry that you feel this way. If the decoder was damaged the sound may have been distorted. Remember that we do have a warranty on our decoders and can fix them for you!
Our parts are outsourced, yes. But as George states in the video each part is heavily tested to make sure it is a good part for our products and any substitute parts are tested as well. When other companies build overseas they may not even know when a part is substituted and the substitute may not be up to par. Also by building in the USA, we are providing jobs here in the USA, and we are very proud to do so.
Yeah. Sometimes you have no options other than to source outside your company. That should not discourage companies from doing as much as possible in house.

Its hard enough to wire it up and have somebody show me how to program what i want in it
