I'm a huge fan of double exposures... have shot a number of film rolls this way. I love how the X100V handles the combination of images. I think this way of shooting compliments street photography! I really liked the work you got!
This was really motivating! Sometimes I feel like we can get burned out from shooting the same way all the time. This was a real nice way to break that up. Great video :)
Brilliant video! Double exposure combined with street photography is my favorite since it's truly challenging! Love the way you push yourself out of your comfort zone and experiment with new things. I'll be happy to follow you😍
Fantastic, Faizal. Had come across the setting in my first Fujifilm camera purchase (used X-E3, Ebay + 35mm prime lens, separate) last year. Now I feel that "extra" menu has a really cool, creative element to play with.
I've only done this once...by accident. I think the more you did it the better you got. The images towards the end of your vid were quite good compared to the beginning. Definitely worth doing from time to time!
I tried double exposure on my XE2 years ago. The first shot was easy, but the second was impossible. I like the shot of the lady walking across the street. You inspired me to try it again.
One thing I learned shooting street is that you can make everything work - with a lot of practice that is. I have shot focal lengths that people told me wouldn‘t work for street (like ultra wide or telephoto). And on the first days you just get home desperate because it really is hard. But if you stick to it you can make everything work and expand your creative potential during the process. I‘m sure if you shoot exclusively double exposures for a month you will end up with pretty amazing results. What a challenge haha.
I absolutely love this technique. I've never tried it before and it's exactly what I've been looking for. I absolutely love the abstract nature of the pics you've taken in this video.
I am still new to Fuji system and I had no clue about it! I cant wait to go out to street asking people for portraits since I would love to get some of these double exposed portraits of strangers. Thank you for this vid!
Another great video with good information and suggestions. My XT30 has a multiple exposure setting but it actually superimposes the first shot in the viewfinder so I could easily line them up. I was surprised my camera had that functionality because it not in the high end of Fujifilm pricing. I liked the results and appreciate the information on opening up the creative process of photography.
It doesn’t apply to street photography all the time but I find the ones with people coming and going or moving from a far point and then closer were interesting. As for the architecture shots I think it applies well. A great exercise when we just don’t know what to shoot anymore. I have this function on my Fuji X-T2 and will use it the next time I go shooting, just for the fun of it. Thanks for the video.
I liked a number of your photos. I found them inspiring. DE is “gimmicky” but still fun even if there are only a few good shots . I especially liked the abstracts using the sculpture.
You are right, the architectural exposures look better than the exposures of people.I think this is a pretty nice photography technique to try every now and then.
I like the idea and love the challenge it offers. Don't criticize your results; it's not like you do these all the time. It always takes practice. I tried some incamera dbl exposures earlier this spring but hadn't thought of some of your ideas. I'm going to give it another go.
I just got the x100v a few weeks ago. I’m blown away. A decade a go I was shooting film and wanted a digital that could do film simulations, multiple exposures, video and panoramas. I was kinda bummed with my Canon dslr because it couldn’t do some of these things in camera. But the boom! A decade passes and I get the X100v. Basically a camera made for me.
As always I love the video. It’s fun to photograph multiple exposure or icm. Often I use both of the techniques for one photo and after a bit practice, you get amazing results. Off course you must like it, but that personal for everybody
thank you for this useful video, i'm starting to explore this technique and this video is what i was looking for! btw the one with the orange dodge and the seagull is great
Very interesting experiment Kudos! I've tried this a lot in camera and in post too, I found it works great for contrast in subject matter when you're shooting portraits. And in the streets it works best with architecture (something with less detail). And it also looks great when one of the images is zoomed with the exact same scene too!
Definitely worth experimenting with! Even if it might not be something you do all the time, just the act of trying a whole new approach is great learning experience.
I just watched your motion blur and double exposure videos back to back. I don't know why, but the motion blur photos look like first curtain flash exposures sometimes and too "thin" in other examples - I wonder if this is due to the digital sensor or if the exposure triangle was just different (I don't mean this as any kind of criticism, just wondering). The three men double exposure is really great - has a Reservoir Dogs vibe :D Also the one person, shot twice works great - especially the guy crossing the street. But what i can really imagine the technique for, is shooting an abstract "background" exposure and then placing a person in the background with the second shot. It gives some of the mystery you often find in master pieces (not saying its a short cut). I love it and will try it myself. Thanks for the inspiration!
Hey first of all I love your work and your channel. I just was curious, do you have a mic when you’re doing commentary as you’re out shooting? Or is that just audio from your GoPro?
Yup! As it turns out you can't get a RAW version of the double exposure. You get the two exposures as separate raw files and then the combined exposures as a jpeg
this was so cool! I don't know why but when I try it with my X-E4 my pictures come out incredibly super exposed (?) even though the original images are not. Will have to look into it.
Seems to me, not that I have tried it... But perhaps double (multiple) exposure works best when using a tripod and you capture the same scene but with a subject that is moving from 1 location to another within the same frame. There were some shots there that you did that sort of mimic'd that.
Its actually a personal preference, i personaly think that it work beautifully on studio portraits to embrace drama/emo in a shot ( I don't shoot portraits that much, I'm mainly shooting in streets with my phone) but I know a photographer on ig called coblephotography he do multiple expo with candids sometimes & they are awesome, by the way man great video and your facts are always true I know❤️😇
Hi I just viewed your vlog on double exposure as it is something I am looking to do myself. I would agree with you that it doesn't work so well for street photography but better with same subject. you have touched on that and I felt your shots were good but better with just the architectural exposures
Some of the shots ended up pretty cool for a first shoot with double expo. I think the possibilities are endless and you may pass the cliche aspect of this genre... shoots some more! ;-)
Was gonna ask what city you were in cause it looks like some cool architecture and then saw federal reserve bank of boston hahah I didn’t even recognize my own city
Really Bizarre. The other day I was playing with an image of a blue window with raindrops and I thought how cool that would be as a double exposure image. So I ended up using photoshop to make it happen. Which reminded me of the first time I used the multiple exposure function on my camera. It was very hard that day I tried it out in the field. Like you say you do have to have the intention and personally, proper planning of where you are going to shoot. As your video dropped I was planning just that! lol. I think it may have to be a photoshop job on the ipad, which I totally don't mind.
Even X-M1 has it. It's hidden on the PSAM dial beneath the "Adv." mode. Once in Adv. mode, press Menu/OK and you'll be able to configure it from the menu. The camera then will be shooting JPEG only (no RAW, at least on T2 and M1).
I use this features on Olympus because is imediatly, and this develop raw and jpg. In fuji in my x100v i hate it, because you will press ok for acept the first or the second image, it's insane, and the fuji don't save the raw image.
You should do this more often because you are uncomfortable, you dont have to share it, but if you want to be better you should find that intention that you say it needs.
I've had my XT20 for a couple years now and I didn't even realize I had this feature. LOL and it's on the DIAL!! Gonna use it from time to time now. Thanks!!
You're doing it all wrong, first try using a decent camera and not a fujifilm. The second exposure usually needs to be a stop darker or visa versa and to get the the best double exposures or triple exposures use a 35mm or 120mm film camera
I think you should feel proud of what you accomplished! Don't give up. It doesn't HAVE to fit within street photography. It creates its own thing.
Another cool "technique" to try out is Saul Leiter and only shooting through windows and such, also teach people about another street legend
1+++++++
I feel like I do this in every single POV 😂 but I love the idea of making a dedicated video to Leiter's work!!
Saul is my fav photographer and has had a big impact on my street work...good advice to check him out!
I think you actually should do this more often, amazing pictures 👏🏼👏🏼
I'm a huge fan of double exposures... have shot a number of film rolls this way. I love how the X100V handles the combination of images. I think this way of shooting compliments street photography! I really liked the work you got!

The guy that asked for a photo and then brushed you off.... I had a good laugh. Great capture!
I absolutely love this technique. I've never tried it before and it's exactly what I've been looking for.

This is great man! So many fun photos, great job

These shots are great. I think your the one to watch. I think this channel is gonna blow up

Double exposure photography would be sick with a zoom lens. You could probably get really creative with compositions. Nice video man, keep it up!
I liked a number of your photos. I found them inspiring. DE is “gimmicky” but still fun even if there are only a few good shots . I especially liked the abstracts using the sculpture.

I think they where actually really cool! Great videos as always!
Now this is quality content!
As always I love the video. It’s fun to photograph multiple exposure or icm. Often I use both of the techniques for one photo and after a bit practice, you get amazing results. Off course you must like it, but that personal for everybody
My favorite shot is the one at 9:03 ✨
Is there any Fuji camera that can do multi exposures? Mine can only do double exposures
Fuji xe4 ☺️
X100V can do up to nine combined exposures
Inspiring as always! I've tried "motion blur" and i freaking enjoy it! Tomorrow I'll try this one! 🎉🎉
love to see it!
@@FaizalWestcott will tag u sir on Instagram 😁
Interesting shots! Going to give this a try next time I get out to take pictures.
thank you for this useful video, i'm starting to explore this technique and this video is what i was looking for! btw the one with the orange dodge and the seagull is great
I do find street work difficult, It's now twice as hard!!! Thanks for the video Faizal.
This guy say he didnt want to see his masterpiece, and it really was a masterpiece
Very interesting experiment Kudos! I've tried this a lot in camera and in post too, I found it works great for contrast in subject matter when you're shooting portraits. And in the streets it works best with architecture (something with less detail). And it also looks great when one of the images is zoomed with the exact same scene too!
Definitely. I've seen this used a lot more effectively with portraiture work
Inspiring images and techniques. I agree that the process is a bit of a mind blow.
Definitely something I am going to try soon! Love my xe4

Holy, some masterpieces in there!
Loved the picture with the guys in suits :)
Very cool idea man, definitely makes for some interesting photos!
Hey first of all I love your work and your channel. I just was curious, do you have a mic when you’re doing commentary as you’re out shooting? Or is that just audio from your GoPro?
Your post is always inspiring! Keep it up!
thank you!!
I like the one with the grass and the guy in the triangle.
That 3 people walk is so great
Great tutorial and right outside my freshman dorm, 20 years later!
Great photos! I like seeing them a lot.
I enjoy your videos. Another fun one.
Man this is for sure inspiring.
I liked the shots of 1 person in two positions within the frame.
New to street, coming from landscape and want to have more fun with photography. Loving your content. I’d buy an X100V if I could get my hands on one!
Some of the photos were awesome
6:10 what a legend
I'm loving this experimental vibe on the channel, keep it up. Did you use Astia as usual for these photos?
That shot at 9:05 is awesome
Also at 11:18
9:02 was super rad
So, so good!!! I want to try this!
I think i'm i love with fujifilm cameras...Good technik!
Still waiting on my back ordered X-E4 and 27mm kit 😢 Thanks for some ideas on what to shoot when it comes though
Seems to me, not that I have tried it...

What is your favorite little camera?
x100v? xe4 27mm?
Favorite has to be the X100V, but lately I've been using the X-E4 a lot more mostly for the 53mm focal length lens that I have for it
My faves were the suits and the ninja
This is so cool😍
also I really liked the shot that had the grass in it.
Subscribed! Love trying new things
Hello Faizal, what you think of Fuji X-A7
Some of the shots ended up pretty cool for a first shoot with double expo. I think the possibilities are endless and you may pass the cliche aspect of this genre... shoots some more! ;-)
Wanna try this out !! But my Sony a73 doesn't support double exposure
This is cool Faizal!
Is it possible to get a raw file out of the double exposures with Fuji cameras or is it jpeg only?
mawaii snapped
high key
Great video! You should try this with film now
9:03 and 12:26 are so beautiful! Nice video.
Allergy season is brutal this year
I'm dying
Seems to work better with architectural/abstract rather than street photography. Might try it out today. Thanks...
Awesome captures bruh! What city are you shooting in? ✌📷
Was gonna ask what city you were in cause it looks like some cool architecture and then saw federal reserve bank of boston hahah I didn’t even recognize my own city

woahhh it sooo nice, but i didnt get the idea how to do that actually

Hii from Argentina 🖤📸

I didn't even know my camera could do this lol
what is cliche, is labellling. just shoot and dont worry about putting it into categories.
I really like 12:29
That guy tho 😂
lol
that guy at 6:00 SMH.
You're doing it all wrong, first try using a decent camera and not a fujifilm. The second exposure usually needs to be a stop darker or visa versa and to get the the best double exposures or triple exposures use a 35mm or 120mm film camera
Talk too much
So on mine, the first shot is RAW, second is RAW BUT the double exposure is in JPG format….same on yours??
Do you know what some good batteries to get for the x100v or at least some way of making the batteries last longer?
