The vendor showed me this model and said the steel for this one is actually 52100 carbon steel and there is a premium version in CPM 3v as well

Interesting, it could be but my infonwas it is A8... I may be wrong! Hard to say when not written on the knife.

@@fkr6051 At the time I also found there was a listing on some Chinese website and it showed 52100 and CPM 3V as the two options. HJF is meant to be a more premium knife maker in china so I don't think they are lying

You need to add the aliexpress app and then go to the below store link. Once in the store you use the chat and contact the vendor and you can send him a screen shot of the knife you want and ask him if there is still some stock available. He will tell you how to buy.

The sheath unfortunately rattles, but it is a beautiful blade.

Yes à bit of play. Not unusual on large blades but better of no play... Just got the smallest version and this one has no play.

Have you used any of these blades in a heavy application? How does the steel hold up? Any chipping or edge rolls?

Yes, I have been using is hard use like chopping ad batoning. No issue. Theni I am not abusing and don't do the Joe X hitting stones. Then with A8 you can hit some steel bar or else and cut small nails, no pb for the edge.

do you still consider this a type of bowie knife despite the Ottoman Kilij inspired tip?

Good question... Honestly I am not sure, I would have say harpoon bowie but may be another blade shape, so many and not the best specialist for that, so may be an ottoman shape indeed
