There was a story where a mother had twins and one of them was allergic to coconut. The grandma (op’s mother) used coconut oil for multiple purposes, hair, food, skin, etc. OP was clear about the allergy and told her multiple times throughout the years of the girls' lives. One day the grandma had the girls for the weekend and gave the twin with the allergy something to go to sleep and put coconut oil in both of the girl's hair. Op woke up the next morning to find out her daughter was dead because she couldn’t wake up and tell her grandma about the reaction. That is how dangerous an allergy is and how fucked up the MIL was.

Chris Watts’ mother did the same thing to one of his daughters, who was extremely allergic to nuts. But Grandma Watts would always serve food with nuts in it and leave bowls of nuts out, even at the child’s birthday party she served ice cream with nuts in it. Then when Shannan Watts (rest in peace) yelled at her Chris defended his insane mother.
I guess killing little children runs in the Watts family.

Mom of 2 littles here: formula is perfectly safe for babies, though I do hear about lawsuits here, and there involving certain companies. Breast-feeding and using formula are both great ways to make sure your baby gets the proper nutrients! I’ve done both. The only potentially dangerous thing with formula is that you have to have the right scoops to water ratio. If you water down formula, it can cause your baby to have a seizure due to water intoxication

11:55 MIL definitely the asshole and sounds like she’s trying to live vicariously through you because she can’t have kids anymore. definitely seems like the kind of MIL to go against your wishes behind your back bc she believes she knows best for “her baby”. husband is also the asshole for saying you’re overreacting to your attempted murder😭

1st AITA: The husband thinks the wife is overreacting because he's clearly not experienced anaphylaxis. The literal terror that runs through you as your throat closes and you are unable to draw a solid breath, your heart racing because your blood pressure is through the roof, your entire body goes into panic mode, and all you think about is getting help because you feel like there's a genuine risk you will die. I'm sure if the husband had ever experienced this, even just once in his life, he would have laid into his mother and gone NC with her after she knowingly tried to kill his wife all because she was overstepping regarding the DIL's choice in feeding her infant. If I was the wife I'd get a restraining order, and move out of the family home to stay with family and/or friends with the baby. Neither the husband nor MIL seem to care about how utterly evil and wreckless this was.

I think for the wedding one he is an asshole. They way she phrased “I’ve waited ten years to marry you” makes it seem like he was the reason they waited so long not a mutual agreement. And the reason was to “save money” but then he wants a court house wedding? What was the point of saving for 10 years then? It just just feels like he is an asshole for taking her for granted and not valuing her enough to come up with a way for her to have a dream wedding(even if it’s not her original idea). I’m not saying you have to spend hundreds of thousands to value someone but making her wait ten years for a courthouse wedding and act like that’s good enough shows what stock he puts in wanting to celebrate their relationship and her as his partner.

    • @ZMich8
      @ZMich8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

I read this and his comments and you are right he was the main reason why they waited

Also it sounds like she wants a destination wedding and they aren't that uncommon - depending where she wants to go maybe give their guests more time or change the place to be less expensive. And be prepared for people to not come.

I was half breastmilk half formula fed because my mom was a nurse and had to go back to work pretty fast, and I'm currently pursuing a PhD in psychology. Your babies will be okay if you love and care for them and formula is a valid option.

This is wild! I actually had an emergency c section at around six months for my twins and the only thing that helped increase my milk production was body armour, but ultimately I was never really able to produce very much so we switched to formula and had a wonderful friend donate an entire deep freeze of her breast milk to us. As long as it’s ingestible calories for a newborn that they can naturally break down, such as formula, a fed baby is the happiest baby. Am I the only one who gets embarrassed hearing other peoples opinions on things that they don’t have any say over? Lol cool talk grams, I’ll just do my best how about that 😂

Oof... as bad as this might sound, I'm glad I live in a country where our tax agency needs to approve of the name picked.
One of my middle names was almost rejected, and my mom was told we could keep it IF she found someone with that name. Luckily for her, there was a woman on TV with that name as her first name.
If you've heard that story with the kid named "Huntyr", that wouldn't have been approved.
As bad as tax agencies can be, in a weird way, ours looks after the kids being born to keep them from getting crazy names.

    Last story:
    1. Sean is the correct spelling of the name.
    2. Paijtonn is wild, but the child is two so most likely knows their own name, keep the name, change the spelling. Whatever you choose to do with star-light is whatever.
    3. My mother has a name that was misspelt and she hates that her name is always misspelt. Funnily enough she had a friend as a child who had the same spelling and her name is rare here even with regular spelling.
    4. My parents chose a name for me that was rare because they didn't want me to share a name with a classmate. Which worked, but ironically I do share my exact birthday with another person with my name and we're the only two people who were born in that town with that name and that's wild.

I work in HR and I have met other (usually older white folks) who will judge applicants based on their name. For example, I worked with a woman who wouldn't call qualified applicants because they listed their preferred name (such as Sandy instead of Sandra) because she said it was "unprofessional." Another wouldn't call qualified applicants if they had a "unique" (Kaylyn and all of the spellings was a common one) name because it meant that they were young and inexperienced (and this was even for entry level positions).

Makes me happy that in my country, our tax agency has a say with which names are allowed (since they have to work with it for years later on), and some if not most of those names would be shut down.
For one of my middle names (which is what my dad called me as a baby), my mom had to find someone with that name to "prove" that it was an actual name. Some lady on TV had it as her first name.
So as strange as it sounds, the tax agency looks out for kids here, to "save them" from having at least some horrible names.
I also think they prefer that the "proof people" (for a lack of better words) be from this country, otherwise you could just look up someone from the US for example with some crazy spelling.

I mildly disagree with the Farmland story cuz in the day you can still sell to developers with good intentions especially if your goal is to sell to someone who's going to build something like a shelter or low-income apartment buildings so that's just speculation it's on the Op to actually put in the time and due diligence to make sure that who he's going to are the right people or even that the money he makes from it just goes to a good cause end of the day we're all born into a world where money makes the world go round so I don't inherently think someone trying to make a profit while also sitting on the u.s. is inherently evil because whether is to do good or to do bad you still need money and letting land go to waste is still almost as bad. I also hold the little to absolutely no sympathy about the other person in the story because the moment you lied you forfeit all fux that I gave about either intention even if the Granddad was more of a gun whole person for Fourth of July end of the day when you say wake people think of a wake not a party. Lastly it seems like a matter of principle cuz end of the day if it was on the 5th and the party was after the wake and only for the grandfather it seems as though they probably would have been fine with that.

1:03:54 about the Asian names, as a non Asian who lived and studied in China, I don’t think it really is that deep. They don’t have to change their names for non Asians. They just choose a non Asian name for themselves, which will also be easier for non Asians to pronounce. It’s a choice, and they aren’t changing their names.
I’ve experienced the opposite. I’m European and non Asian and when I had to apply to the Chinese embassy of my country for my study visa, I had to choose on the spot a “Chinese name” so it’s easier for Chinese people to pronounce. It wouldn’t be my real name, it wouldn’t mean I’m changing my name. It would just be my name on the documents so it’s easier to read. Since I wasn’t prepared, I just wrote the Chinese transliteration of my name (Maliya for Maria) which I hated, because it was just obvious that it’s a foreigner’s name (马利亚) plus I didn’t like the first character which means horse, because that’s literally how stupid boys catcall girls in my country.
When I went to China, I asked my Chinese language teacher to help me fix my name in a way that has nicer characters and sounds more Chinese than foreign. So we came up with 邹丽娅 (Zou Liya) which I love as it replaces the horse character with a rather unique Chinese surname (Zou) which is as close as possible to my actual surname (Zeniou). And I love my Chinese name, it’s more culturally correct and it has beautiful characters. I’m more than happy to introduce myself as Zou Liya instead of Maria Zeniou to Chinese people.
All that to say that in my opinion, it isn’t that deep. At least not for those who don’t live in the US and who just happily choose an “English name” just because why not.

    • @ko0ei
      @ko0ei ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@ko0ei are you Asian or non Asian, if you don’t mind me asking? From my experience living in China, nobody expressed any discomfort introducing themselves using their English names. They were more than happy for the opportunity to finally use it. And I was more than happy to learn their actual names too, but I noticed that some people preferred me using their English names.
That’s why I said that I don’t think it’s that deep at least for those who live in their home countries. I have no idea what the experience is for those who live in the US.

I know this is random butttt….Tons of recalls on formula! Not just a few. All of the BIG ones. Enfamil and similac just to name some. Gerber is horrible as well. Pretty packaging and toxic on the inside. Besides the recalls, if parents read the ingredients they will see that it contains horrible things for baby bodies and brains to grow on. Corn syrup, soys, and fillers…so much more junk. Babies should not grow on that, yet it’s the staple of their diet.
If a mother can’t breastfeed I suggest doing their research to find the best formula that is healthiest and safest. My SIL used kendamil and it was organic goat milk based. Please remember babies need the best. Breastmilk is ideal for numerous reasons and it’s hard to replicate pure breastmilk. Not all mothers want to do that or can so at least give your baby the best formula possible. Said with love because I understand not all mothers can do it, but they can give their baby the best formula possible. They’re all roughly the same prices as the big marketed formula too.

I'm white, my parents are white, the name is weird and has no connection to our family or culture. A good day is a day when no one uses my name. I'd prefer 'hey, you!' anytime.

LAST STORY comment: (after rereading this, it's kinda TMI but I figured it would help someone here)
I fully support OP wanting to change his daughter's name. As someone who has a Thai name that's translated into English (official name), it's really hard not to wanting change your name. The English language is sort of fuck up already by all these silent and "no sound" letters in words. As Josh said, she might get bullied by kids, AND ALSO how Schawn said, he didn't like the idea of changing the name JUST for the teachers. I fully understand both stance BUT one thing that was fail to talk about is how it's going to affect her mentally (growing up) as she is gonna start realizing how DIFFERENT (her name) she is. I have never been bullied because of my name but with 90% of people not pronouncing and spilling it right throughout MY WHOLE school life so far it's challenging mentally ( it kinda messes with you). For the longest time. I've always blamed my parents on not giving me a "regular" English name and it wasn't until 3 years ago I have learned to accept it fully.

The reaction to the wedding story actually surprised me. I thought OP actually had a great idea of a compromise. Do the courthouse wedding first so everyone can actually attend the wedding „real“ wedding and then do a celebration. Yes shorter than she wanted and closer to home, but it is a compromise.
My verdict would me NAH, since I think it’s great that she was fine with people not coming and already had a plan for providing people with travel accommodations. But I still understand Op for not wanting this, bc it‘s not just money stopping people from traveling out of the country for 5 days.

I disagree on the first story: the girl who wants a 5 day wedding is for sure the AH. Yeah he xpuld have mad some more compromises as well but her wishes were terrible

Yeah, for sure. Like asking 50 people to take leave for a 5-day wedding is crazy even if flights were paid for that's a lot of time off. Sure, her folks might be loaded but that's not most people - from the sound of it, not OPs situation.
Like sure there could have been some more compromising but what's even the point or a guest list if most of them wouldn't be able to come? I feel like there's an element or classism here.

I don't think so. She waited ten years for this wedding and wants it to be something special. They could easily compromise on something a bit less... time-consuming and still make it special, but he's not even willing to do that. I mean, his excuse for the decade-long wait was "I wanted us to be more financially stable" and now that they are, he wants to have a courthouse wedding? Something they could've had back then?
Also, she said how she'd understand if some people wouldn't be able to attend. It's not like destination weddings are uncommon nowadays. They could've easily just pushed back the date to give everyone a bit more time to prepare.

The kid’s name story, I got lazy with the later kids; first daughter’s middle name is Cecillia, second daughter’s middle Lyn (only one N, no way do I want an unnecessary letters). 🥹😂🫣 all the paperwork… 🙄😲😮‍💨

@@KindredKaye I know right?! I liked the reflective imagery of the the “cillia” part, but I now I’m not so thrilled about all the letters. 🤦🏻‍♀️ The difference eight years makes on a mother’s mind. 🤷🏻‍♀️

My criteria for naming my daughter, 1) something easy to spell/pronounce .. .like people should know how to say from reading or how to spell by hearing 2) not so common that's there are 4 in her first grade class, (Emma for her age) and 3) daddy has veto power. If he doesn't like it, back to the drawing board.
