It's wonderful to see Tom's passion for film and how he can't helo himself but ask the other massively talented writers about their opinion and process and it all comes from a place of genuine interest and curiosity.
I agree. I wish he would have continue making more films but Hollywood was not nice to him. Even though he delivered such a great film like Nocturnal Animals.
Never knew this of Sheridan... The guy who was that cop i liked in SOA, turned out to be a screenwriter whos work i truly adore... Sicario is one of my favorite films and i loved Hell or High Water so much... He is going places, what a role model to aspiring writers!
Wow i did not know that!! Just saw the IMDB page and it looks great, the synopsis and the actors/actresses! Hopefully it will be released in Sweden this year! Thanks for the tip!
that awkward moment when Tom Ford takes charge as the moderator... ...still some of the questions he asked the other writers were pretty interesting and gave us some insightful perspective into a writers mind.
Oh, that happens fairly often with roundtables, especially when the people at the table genuinely respect each other. I think that it's a good sign--it means that the people at the table are sufficiently comfortable that they start talking shop and asking each other questions: that's why it's set-up as a roundtable, and not just a panel. It I were the moderator, I would consider that a success.
King Wizard ♔ I think for an interview to be successful it must be conducted by someone who is a writer as well.... more insight that way because they are asking deeper questions not face value questions
i need to watch Nocturnal animals. He's so talented and charming, ive fallen in love. And they're all such multi-talented people i feel inspired to write and kick my passions into high gear
Pedro took the interest to learn a second language and is making the effort to speak it to share his expertise with his colleagues, which is quite impressive. Who else can say that in this interview?
Took interest? Took interest? He works with English speaking actors and lives in European Union for fuk sake. Only horrible state of primary education in Spain can account for this jumble that is coming out of his mouth. I fast forwarded every time he started to stumble through it.
He was the most invested in the whole interview, he respected every writer's opinion, listened carefully when they spoke, and asked real good questions. Such a gentleman! On the other hand, Galloway is being a complete unprofessional moron by constantly interrupting and looking utterly bored & uninterested in the whole thing.
I'm pretty sure that when Lonergan mentioned Proust, he meant his entire work and only piece of fiction, (In Search of Lost Time), one of the longest novels ever written, AND NOT BECKETT'S ESSAY
Sublime Trickaz It isn’t just one novel though. It’s like a series (6 or 7 parts I think). The first is pretty fucking boring, so I didn’t bother with the rest. Just because it describes and encompasses everything isn’t inherently worthy, it has to have the umph.
Now I know, why Sheridan's face was so familiar to me. Sons of Anarchy!! I'm sad that he don't like himself as an actor, but happy for him that he found a new passion in writing.
I clicked on this video with my fingers crossed chanting "Taylor Sheridan!" And he's on here, and I'm happy. He's one of my all time favorite screenwriters.
What a talented room! Loved Kenneth Lonergan's depressing Manchester by the Sea. Tom Ford's Nocturnal Animals was crushingly sad and intense. Taylor Sheridan wrote such believable dialogue for Hell or High Water. Jackie & Hidden Figures were delightful. All breathes of fresh air in film!
@sauljared4395 I looked on Hollywood Reporter (I searched his name there) and it says he was named Dean of Chapman University's Film School. So he probably left THR
After listening to each of these writers speak and watching their mannerisms, I can totally see their personalities reflected in their respective movies.
The Video Annotations seem to suggest that Lonergan is talking about the Beckett essay but clearly he's talking about In Search of Lost Time, Proust's voluminous masterwork and using the author's name merely as synecdoche. Right? This seems like an obvious and embarrassing mistake for them to have made.
When Emmy season comes around, it would be really cool if you had a 'Late Night Show Hosts Roundtable' with Kimmel, Oliver, Fallon, Meyers, Samantha Bee, Chelsea Handler etc... I know there are many but it would be great to see a roundtable discussion with all of them.
It would have been nice if the interviewer didn't often interrupt Ford and others as they were in the middle of speaking. Very inconsiderate to these talents.
content novice that once college American kids come back from studying abroad in countries such as France, Italy and England once they get back they think they’re all European and start to dress like one which is what Tom Ford is basically doing here in this round table
The first mistake: Proust as you wrote here in the notation is NOT a Samuel Beckett essay, Marcel Proust is a French classic writer who wrote "In search of a lost time". as Kenneth says here "its a very very long" the work itself has 7 volumes. the second mistake: Melania Trump is not a Slovakian- she is Slovenian. two different European nations.
Interviewer totally side steps Tom Ford, probably doesn't take him seriously - asks everyone their desert island read and leaves out Tom only to ask his favourite film. Also keeps cutting him off and seems to belittle what he says when he's talking about 'everyone is literally created through you' he asks the guys next to him 'what do you think?' whilst he was talking.
The interviewer does ask Tom Ford for his desert island read at around 13:38, the answer is Tao-Te-Ching by Laozi, I do agree about cutting him off a bit, but maybe it's just because he's trying to keep the conversation moving.
This is interesting and I like to hear their perspectives but I wish there were more diversity in the point of view of the stories we were all served up.
I really wanted to here what Mr. Almodovar but had so much difficulty understanding him. Hey Hollywood Reporter, please invest in a person transcribing into closed captions next time.
Sheridan and Lonergan are my faves, haven't seen Almodóvar's work yet and do really like Tom Ford but he was a little strange on the beginning, maybe trying to look cool but insecure? I don't know
those episodes with great writers and directors r the best...that close look to those imaginative genuises and twisted minds at the same time is so fucking valuable for soo many different reasons..

Jesus, who wrote those black info boxes? By Proust he meant series of books by Marcel Proust 'In Search of Lost Time', not some essay. And Melania is born in Slovenia not Slovakia, Trump's first wife is from Czech Republic (former Czechoslovakia). Just think when you do your work.
Couldn't agree with Kenneth more on Screenplays. I'm an actor and that's the way it's always been for me, unless I'm playing a main character and then I'll read it multiple times and ready my lines over 100 times but otherwise, yeah, it's kinda drab, and I don't have the attention span for it. You can read a wonderful scene, and then cut to, "Interior:, Exterior:, etc." I build the world in my mind but it's hampered because the details they have to get on the page don't flow with the dreamy thoughts of the scene/ landscape.
I love how Tom Ford listens to other writers, he shows so much respect and actually enjoys their stories. He's so classy.
They all did that!
he should listen. he's a fashion designer.
They all listen
I just love Tom Ford!
Yes !
Why wasn't it nice to him?
Ford actually seems like a real chill dude.
I was so bummed that Tom didn't get nominated for directing or even writing, Nocturnal Animals is amazing
yeah biggest snub for me too
One of the worst films I've seen in the last 10 years, it was fucking awful!
MrBojax Let me just tell you that no one here cares about your opinion
Oh shucks, I think I might cry now...
MrBojax If I like the movie than you dont have to bitch about that you hated it
Nocturnal Animals was one of the most criminally overlooked movies of 2016. One of the best movies I've seen in years.
Cannot believe Tom Ford is 56. He looks 37-38 top.
Botox works well

The most stylish, suave and sexy male alive. imho :)

@@realnfnkalyan Richard Buckley? He wasn't even a billionaire...Tom Ford is wealthier by far.

He just premiered his directorial debut "Wind River" at Sundance last month. :) Go see it when it comes out
Wow i did not know that!! Just saw the IMDB page and it looks great, the synopsis and the actors/actresses! Hopefully it will be released in Sweden this year! Thanks for the tip!
You're welcome :)
Wind River was just haunting ...
Now 1883, Yellowstone and mayor of Kingstown
Almodovar is a genius and the most interesting character
Of course. They'd all agree with you on that.
Tom Ford has so much swag
Bruno mars has swag. Tom For is suave.

that awkward moment when Tom Ford takes charge as the moderator...

Ada banana. It's a great movie.

Pedro´s "eeehhh..." typical spanish hehe

Tom flexing in his Tom Ford suit designed by Tom Ford
love how you put it together
Why would he wear another man's suit?
Pedro Almodovar is spectacular
too bad nobody let him speak
@@tilliisabelle2891 might of been a bit of the language barrier too
What did Pedro say he would do if he wasn't a writer?
Tom Ford is the real driving force behind this interview. Mr. Bean there sucks as an interviewer.
hfanti you're right. TF asked the good questions.

....fuckin' Mr.Bean, lololololol
thats a disrespect to Rowan Atkinson lolol
huh? maybe because he's the most ambitious and business orientated. personally, i prefer real writers, not fashion designers playing at being writers.
Tom Ford seems to be insecure about the fact he only did 2 films. I find that cute bc he's really talented he shouldn't feel that way.
Angelina Jolie felt the same during her round table
Humility ain't no crime.

They all have very distinctive mannerisms, that was quite a fascinating talk!
Sheridan was probably so happy Almodovar loved Sicaro! 😂👍🏼
Time stamp?
As a writer and a journalist, I love this roundtable. So so fascinating and eye-opening. Thank you!
"Melania" a dark comedy, needs to happen.

Amazing to see Tom Ford sitting next to Pedro Almodovar. I’d rather hear just the two of them talk.
This man did the best interviews while people complained ....now i miss him & his roundtables so much.
what happened to him?
@sauljared4395 I looked on Hollywood Reporter (I searched his name there) and it says he was named Dean of Chapman University's Film School. So he probably left THR
Kenneth Lonergan looks so fed up with Galloway's stupid clickbait questions haha
How weird is it that the deputy of Charming from Sons of Anarchy is one of the best screenwriters working in film today?
After listening to each of these writers speak and watching their mannerisms, I can totally see their personalities reflected in their respective movies.
this is my valentines day gift
Am I the only one who thinks Pedro looks somewhat like George Lucas? 🤔
I don't watch a lot of Almodovar films but i love to hear him talk, its to interesting
God, remove the moderator. Just let the writers talk...
The most insightful THR roundtable of this season.
I’m here for Almodóvar
one doesnt simply resist Taylor Sheridan's charisma
Taylor Sheridan and Kenneth Lonergan both look exactly how you'd expect the writers of their respective movies to look.
TJ Hastie Good observation
This woman talks like she's about to the burst into tears the entire time.
Loved Allison's enthusiasm, and now I'm curious about her plan to make Detroit the capital of energy
i have no idea how you guys gather so much talent in one room but im very grateful
I feel like I waited my entire life for this
That Tom Ford hasnt been nominated for the writing of NA is the greatest oscar snub of all time
Almodovar eeeeeee
I like how I got a Tom Ford ad before the video
So happy this is finally out! Still so sad that Ford didn't get to finish his bit about Oz in Nocturnal Animals
Interupted at the worst
47:00 LMFAO look at Stephen Galloway after Tom Ford asked a question. He was like "did Tom Ford just take my job away?"
Ben Moore: I was confused by that pop-up annotation about Proust as well. Seems that THR needs a better fact checker?
Is there a table for adapted screenplay? I want to see the writers of arrival and lion on here
probably going to happen i think
This roundtable is representative for screenwriters all around. Nocturnal and Hidden Figures are adapted from novels
HrTjernobyl so no further roundtable for writers then damn shame
What do you guys think about Lion?
lyricsfromsweden I really liked it and that's coming from an Indian great performances writing and great directorial debut
the first question already made me cringe
Tao Te Ching, damn, I love Tom Ford.

and I'm so proud of him, finally the american cinema industry knows that the Spanish cinema exists! 🙃🙃🙃
well they should get to know him he is brilliant , his movies are amazing
Thanks! That means a lot for a Spanish citizen😊
Don't worry, he puts them on about halfway through!
Finally? He won an Oscar in 2000, then again in 2003. :)
I wish I was sitting at this table
It would have been nice if the interviewer didn't often interrupt Ford and others as they were in the middle of speaking. Very inconsiderate to these talents.
Wonderful to watch this roundtable and to see their passion in their eyes and words.
Im in love with Tom Ford!!! He is such a Virgo. Divine! haha :)
ME TOO! ME TOO I have the same problem finishing a novel, I don't like it and abandon it exactly around half of the final chapter like he said
Tom Ford is every American who had their gap year abroad.
why, i dont get it
content novice that once college American kids come back from studying abroad in countries such as France, Italy and England once they get back they think they’re all European and start to dress like one which is what Tom Ford is basically doing here in this round table
Nothing wrong with that we should all take the best out of every culture and infuse it with our personality to enhance our character
@@BreezyBulldog Ford has dressed like this his whole life.
How in the world is this not having a million views...... 😳😳😳😳😳

Tom Ford is a year older than Kenneth Lonergan (no offense to Lonergan). How is that possible?
Botox
Kenneth Lonergan is like a mix of John Goodman and Seth Rogen
Would LOVE to hear Tarantino talk about writing.
In Search of Lost Time is one of the greatest pieces of literature ever. Idk why they gave information regarding Beckett though 🤣
Tom Ford is younger than I thought he was
I think I would understand Pedro more if he were to speak spanish lol (i'm italian btw)
I wish this discussion was more free flowing. It's too formal and honestly quite haphazard
The first mistake:

Just to throw it out there - Melania was born in Slovenia, NOT Slovakia, but it's not of any consequence in context of this talk ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Writers are also good speakers...
Didn't Tom Ford adapt Nocturnal Animals? Based on a book right?
Yes he did..different book title though
Same with Allison Schroeder. She adapted Hidden Figures.
Absolutely although adapting a 200-400 page book into a solid screenplay is a skill in itself !
Enough of the deserted island and stranded on a boat questions
Taylor is totally not a hollywood snob his desert island pick is a field guide to desert island fauna lmaooo

Taylor looks like the ultimate male supermodel.

Whilst I appreciate the sentiment from Allison in regards to Bond girls. Vesper did save Bond's life in Casino Royale. So it's not a new concept.
I liked that they side stepped Galloway's political questions and kept it focused on the writing-wouldn't have happened if clooney was there
Melania Trump was born in Slovenia, not Slovakia.
Damjan Raknic oh just started watching who messed that up and when?

THR got the First Lady's country of birth wrong. Given that it's not a typo, but a whole different country, it's a pretty glaring mistake.
