Simply and absolutely superb... hat's off to the entire cast and crew.. down to the last extra.....the entire direction and production teams..the music director / s ...just amazing .... the talent that's come together to make this film...thanks for sharing...!!
Saw it last weekend. It was a lovely movie. I couldn't imagine living in that time, under those conditions. At least the other FULL blacks slaves and servants in England had each other to commune with and for support, but being half and half, and ALL ALONE must've been a psychological and emotional NIGHTMARE. But BRAVO to Dido's father, uncle, aunts, cousin, servants, and husband for being strong enough and principled enough to buck the system (as much as they could or dared) the way the did. They were ALSO in great danger and must've been in a kind of emotional hell of their own. It's been a long time, but not enough has changed. And the way things are shaping up, I fear slavery of blacks and others may make a come back. Loved the movie. The acting was wonderful, Gugu was stunning, and the scenery, sets, and costumes where GLORIOUS! GO SEE THIS MOVIE, AND BUY/RENT IT WHEN IT'S OUT ON DVD!
scenery77 I had to comment on your story about your aunt. What year did this take place? It seems that this had to have happened during the Jim Crow years. I have heard many stories where White men gave up their inheritance and married the women they loved (Black or Native American). I wonder, did this man who was obsessed with your aunt know her before either of them married? If so, it would explain why he could not give her up. If not, then he was a Nut. In the Clint Eastwood movie "A Fistful of Dollars", there was a plot like this. Watch this movie and you will see that it is like your aunt's. Some mixed kids will experience problems, because the color of skin is such a factor to "some people." Most African-Americans are mixed (look at the different shades/colors of their skin). When Mankind accepts that we all are created equal, then we can get alone. (But I am sure that Mankind will find something else to fight about)
I understand the picture has a message that was important then and is now. I am so frustrated that my complimentary comment regarding the acting ability has bee deleted by some video makes. Sam Reid is a wonderful actor. I can't say that enough.
29, 615 views only? gah. People should really give less attention to mainstream. This is a good movie. I've watched it more than 10 times already!
I'm Black American and never knew about this movie. Thank you for uploading it.
A definite MUST SEE !
