  • Inside Out 2 Movie Review - I was pretty worried about Inside Out 2. Pixar and Disney have had a bit of a rough patch but I'm happy to report that Inside Out 2 is absolutely wonderful. Inside Out 2 is a worthy followup to a brilliant first movie. A family film film that pulls at the heartstrings and keeps the creativity flowing. Absolutely recommend this for all ages!

    Hold on here a minute! A sequel to a movie Adam loves...from Disney...and he says he loves it? And that he loves it AT LEAST as much as the original?
    Has the Apocalypse begun?! (For real, this pushed me to go check it out, will do so tomorrow)

    My only fear-or is it anxiety-is that Pixar continues to be fixated on sequels. This is the seventh (if you include Lightyear) based on a former movie since 2016.

    I'm glad it's good, but I'm over the "slice of life" stories. Where's the grand adventure? Where is the fantastic worldbuilding? Where's the _external_ conflict? I'm over intergenerational trauma, immigrant stories, identity crisis/finding yourself, etc. Obviously, these points can remain as overall themes, but not the plot! Can there please be some sort of actionable narrative, physical confrontations between clearly realized good and evil forces beyond their intangible conceits?

      That's played out

      Where's the grand adventure? The emotions' journey to get back to headquarters.
      Where's the fantastical world building? Riley's entire mind is worldbuilding.

    • @MVPMVE
      @MVPMVE 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@kingkold I don't think so. Film is a visual medium foremost, and physical confrontations will always be easier to show and more universally understood than internal conflict, especially when the target audiences are children.
      I guess I feel like a lot of children/family entertainment isn't really specific to children and families like it used to be, but are now for adults that might happen to bring children along. There are just too many animated think pieces, not enough escapism and wonder IMO.

    • @MVPMVE
      @MVPMVE 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@pawnhearts8785 I guess that just looks and feels very basic to me. As a kid, this movie wouldn't have interested me any more than it does now.
      I would have been more interested in this movie if the emotions split Riley into their own external physical manifestations of her that were running around ruining her life because they are the _sole_ embodiment of a single emotion for all situations they encounter, which is problematic to dangerous. They would realize that a whole person needs the other emotions working together as one to navigate life successfully, but maybe Hate or something refuses to go back and the plot revolves around bringing her back and stopping her from fracturing other peoples' identities to allow their Vices their own persons. The theme would be that our negative emotions are natural and fine, that they reveal our boundaries and can be expressed safely so long as we don't allow them to consume us. The distinction is that the Emotions are tangible, existing outside and interacting with the world as a physical conduit of the theme, not an internal conflict because this is still a children's story that benefits from literal representation and an active action plot rather than a passive internal exploration. Hate is the clear villain, leaving lasting damage and chaos in the physical world and inciting other Vices to do the same, giving negative emotions the excessive agency that will feed the worst of humanity if allowed to grow beyond the person and free from the guidance of the other Emotions.
      I just want a children's story to feel exciting again, for me to be at the edge of my seat while still learning something about myself. That's what makes a story memorable, that's what makes a theme stay with someone.

    I saw it and I liked it okay. In a thumbs up and thumbs down world, surely thumbs up. But alot of folks are falling all over the movie and lauding it. To me it gave me the feels a couple of times and seemed like the story was a rehash of the original. Good, not great. I just don't get what I am missing here that I just see it as a good family film and not all that much more, which again, is better than most animated films. IDK maybe I am missing something or maybe it is b/c I am a male and do not have children. Like I related way more to Mr. Incredible's mid-life crisis even when I saw the film years ago then Riley growing up.

    I thought it was a really well done sequel. My only complaint is the trailers basically gave away the entire plot. I think they could have been more subtle. But definitely still a worthy sequel. Now I don’t think we need a new one. Two is enough. Also not sure what a 3rd one could bring that’s new.

    I'm not sure if I want to see this one. The trailers made it seem like Riley was going to me into Val, the female character with the red streak in her hair. Which, I'm kind of done with the whole, depending on your point of view, this can either be admiration or sexual attraction.
    (EDIT: I decided to see the film, and I loved it! The trailer I saw threw my off, but the film is great. I'm glad that they stayed true with the sexuality they presented for her in the first film. And I'm glad they didn't go the sexually ambiguous route. Riley has become one of my top ten favorite female characters. Great stuff, and I hope Pixar can continue doing great things with this series with Part 3.)

    • @samkj1953
      @samkj1953 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      The team she wants to get into has a red thing on their hair. Thats why she also has one. Nothing to do with sexual attraction

    • @AetheriusComics
      @AetheriusComics 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@samkj1953 So, I just saw the film last night. I happened to get a seat before they ran out. This is a good movie, I liked it a lot!
      I didn't think the red streak was about sexual attraction. I was using that to point out who Val is.
      I think they did a good job being clear about Riley's sexual interest, being that she has a boy crush section in her brain, and Disgust was against Riley holding Val's hand. I don't like it when the make a character sexually ambiguous, as it tends to weaken the motives of characters, which then weakens the story.
      Nothing against non hetero themes, it's just that nothing about the first film showed that Riley would be non hetero. And, when ever a film is non hetero focused, there's almost always some sort of anti hetero messaging in it. That is what specifically turns me off about it.
      But Inside Out 2 is great. Well done Pixar!

    • @TheHylian-fd6fn
      @TheHylian-fd6fn 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Riley is straight. She was not feeling "sexual attraction" towards Val. Calm down.

      @AetheriusComics 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@TheHylian-fd6fn Yeah I saw the film a few days ago. Loved it. Riley is hetero, so her story fits what they presented in the first film. They didn't change her up all of a sudden like a lot of films now days. But the trailer I saw was a bit suspicious.
