I started shooting photos for Evolve vacation rentals then worked into Real Estate after I had some experience. I shot 250 houses with 0 complaints with a Canon T6. Seriously. No flash, no lighting, no frills, and happy customers. It is so not gear and it is a lot of customer service. I now have a growing business and pick up great clients in my area over seasoned photographers with service-focused experience and social media products. Every day I spend some time learning trends and new skills. I will shoot any home from tiny and empty to decked-out million-dollar houses with the same reverence and dedication. When you love what you do it never really feels like work.
Great advice Matthew. Thank you. One thing about copyright. In most countries outside of the USA, copyright doesn't need to registered - it's automatic. Prior registration isn't required because there is often no way of registering your work in other countries. There's no need to use the copyright symbol or to place a watermark on your images. Courts just look at the evidence. Not a lawyer.
for the #1, it depend on the country, in Canada, yes, you press the shutter, you are the copyright owner, a photographer took to court someone that put his image on there web site for only 2 hours... he got 10 000$. In Europe, if you take the Eiffel tower at night with the lights on, the copyright belong to the Eiffel tower company. So I would add to tip #1, check the country your shooting in, it can get really complicated.
i was cackling laughing at the quote "after so long, and after so many years, your images will be one hundred percent perfect and eventually you'll know all there is to know about photography... and there's really nothing else to learn" LMAO!!!!!

Great video, as always. 🙂 I particularly like that you reflect on your past self! What is the "register your images for copyright"? Is that something specific to the US? I am from Europe so please excuse my ignorance.
Number 1 is common when people aren't good enough but they need to hold accountable others except themselves. I differ from you in number 2, in my experience I've seen people to get that big break with one photo that made them to bee seen and recognized. It's very common. E mails may not be that effective, but instagram dm's could, because they are more often in that social media. Pricing is a very good tip, to increase it, but when there's no culture of photographing their prohects, is more difficult, it could apply in cities where there are many photographers and a lot of studios taking photo of their projects. I always watch the work of others and vídeos from others, like this, to learn more from others and get a better job. Not everyone does it and their work almost always look the same. In the final tip is very difricult for the pricing of register of the images, is more expensive even than the cost of the shooting. How do you recommend to register the work? Every photo or how do you choose which photo to register.
Fam, freat stuff from you as always my dude. I have heard about #1 many times but am not sure where to or how to register your work? Where should a person go to do such a thing? P.S. I love that you rock the Into the AM gear as much as I do hahahaa
#1 applies to me and it's going to pay off in a big way. Last July, I did a shoot for a new client and they stole nine images (beyond the selected delivered images) off the digital proofs and used them in a couple videos posted to Facebook and TikTok. I registered the images from the shoot the day the proofs were delivered and I have an Intellectual Property Attorney working the case as we speak.
Advice. Not so much. I do my own research. But one incident I remember that kinda counts as advice was running into a fellow photographer, an amateur one, and me being a pro. As in making money from it. And them telling me I should stop as I don’t make enough money with it. To put it into context, its more than the average income in my area, and I was able to upgrade to 2 medium format bodies this year. Advice can be terrible. And people don’t even understand budget and money.
