- Minnesota goes on lockdown. Spring snowstorm takes out the power for 12 hours. Part of a tree down. Running the house off the generator. Cooking lunch on the Workshop woodstove. Farmall M.
One of the best things about Joe’s channel- no music
Yup nothing but the sweet sound of saws, hammers and the frying pan 🥰
Got to imagine it cuts down on editing time too.
@Two Sticks I've been watching Shawn James/My Self Reliance for several years...you are right, serenity at it's best!!
Joe, you are Very Blessed to be living the life that you are.
Hi ,I'm so inspired your work and activities
You are a breath of uncommonly Common Sense air! Thanx!!
Your instincts were spot on! 👍
Thanks for your latest video. At least I am able to watch some normalcy in this Science Fiction move we call life lately. You and your family continue to do such productive things in your days. Great to watch. Stay safe all of you and God Bless.
I want to live by you when a storm hits. Tonight we had an earthquake in Idaho. Times are definitely calling for being prepared. We are on edge in Idaho! I like your channel. A real old fashioned way of life.....but is definitely needed now a days.
So fun to cook on a wood burning stove when the power is sniffed out!
Dang! Earthquake in IDAHO?! Oh my. Didn’t hear about that one, yet. Stay safe!
We heard about that earthquake. Melissa said they could feel it for something like 5 or 6 states around you. Today more than ever being prepared is a must.
Can't think of anyone more capable of handling lockdown than you, Joe!
For the life of me, I cannot begin to understand how electricity and current and amps and voltage and calculating it all works, especially in an outage like that! wow! what a skill.

My bread maker and I would have have a party, one warm loaf of bread and a lb of butter!!!!
Thank you for those of us who are sheltered in place 💥
I know there are many things I should say, but that ol tractor is wonderful ! Stay safe.
Winter won’t leave you alone up there! Keep ‘em coming! 👍
I so enjoy watching your channels, you're teaching us so much. To bad we didn't have you to watch when we first moved out to our country home. Melissa is lucky to have you, and all your talents and knowledge and you make bread too!! The love of animals that you both have is awsome. Stay healthy, safe and God Bless you both and your families.
Oh man, that treetop was huge! Good thing it fell where it did & did no damage. Too bad Melissa cant work from home. I hope you'll both remain well.
It had to really smell good out in the workshop when you were cooking up some lunch yummy 😆👍...
I know it do
Hamburger Helper in a Cast Iron Skillet made on the Wood Stove.Looked Fantastic! Be well up there.. Peace from NE Minneapolis
Just another typical day in rural northern Minnesota ,this is life in northern states like the UP , Northern Wisconsin Minnesota,North Dakota early spring love the video Joe !
I find it exciting when stuff like this happens so you can see your "plan" come together and figure out where you need improvements for next time. We were way more prepared this spring as apposed to last.
Thanks Joe for making the videos shorter and more frequent. You’re accomplishing exactly what you planned, keeping us entertained in this time of boredom🙏
Ann from Alabama here. Since I'm in a small town in East Central Alabama life hasn't been really so different from normal. We still can go get groceries, just not 24/7. They're closing stores at night. Church services are on the internet only. You don't hear school buses in the mornings. I have had the grands last week and will have them next week. The next few weeks are to be crazier. You were showing how windy it was. That describes today, here! Tuesday, 3- 31- 20. We got rain earlier today after having a couple of days of 80° and sunshine. Around lunch the wind picked up. I've had plenty of exercise today: closing the big garbage can lid, grabbing mats that are flying off the porch, and catching tumbling resin chairs from diving off across my yard from the porch! I'm praying it calms down soon. It's 11: 10 pm. It usually stop at dark! We have tornadoes in the spring, so I'm ready for this mess to stop! Can't wait for your next video! Be safe!
Thank you Ann. The windy spring and fall always lets you know a new season is coming.
@@NorthernSeclusion thank you, Joe. I never thought of it that way! The ribs, potato salad, cabbage with sausage, your breads/ buns, and all of the recipes y'all are fixing looks sooo good. Zac and everyone looks well too. Glad everyone's ok. I'm assuming your - you and Melissa- your parents and the children / grands, are well too. Be safe. Looking for better tomorrows! 😁😷👀
I just love to see the way you are prepared for anything, organized, well stocked and doing things intelligently. I love your videos, they are fun fun fun and always interesting!and for cold beers, just put them inside a good pile of snow!!!
Joe’s bare essentials = pork steaks, lighter fluid, and beer. LOL
@@nancyneptune542 I was wondering the same thing. LOL
@@smilebehappy6102 We did didn't we!
Gray Sketchers, wildlife Cameras, Old Westerns & Star Trek, glass of milk, baked potatoes etc.
@@nancyneptune542 🤣🤣🤣
Don't forget paper plates lol
I personally like longer videos . But do what you want . I am a loyal subscriber .
During the shut down I am doing shorter ones so I get the content up more often. Also, this video took 7 hours to upload with the internet we have here at the Farmhouse. Normally I film here and then upload at the hobby farm house, that internet is slow but not nearly as slow as here. If I do a real long video it might take 18 to 20 hours to upload here. The shutdown would be over before my current content was posted lol. I am just doing a happy medium for now.
its nice to cook out on the wood stove in times like these!
Staying at home as much as possible, NOT seeing people because I am on the vulnerable list. I so enjoy your videos, Joe. Your voice is wonderful. Thanks for sharing. Stay safe.
Again Joe Great video!! That bread looked so good. Nothing like it!! Wow the tree didn't look that big till you started to move it! Glad it didn't hit the house. Thanks for Sharing!! Stay safe everyone!! Till next time D..💗
Nothing better than the smell of fresh baked bread ... okay, maybe the smell of bacon cooking too. Great video, sorry about your tree. Good to see the cats and of course Chunk. Hope Joanie is doing well. Stay safe. Hunkered down here in Arizona.
Nothing like homemade bread!! Yummmm
Country boys wl survive! And thrive!
super video Joe God bless and as always have a beautiful day. stay strong how are your girls doing
Joe, you just made me have a super craving for hamburger helper! I've been in Europe for a few months now and of course no way to get home now so it's impossible to satisfy my craving!
I love it and I'm gonna make some just like yours as soon as I can get home!
Always enjoy watching... Thank you for sharing
Enjoyed the video.
Glad you got the juice back on 👍🤠
Joe, so glad you are coping being in Lockdown (so far). I wish my hubby could cook like you do. He knows how to make simple things but not how to use measuring spoons/cups etc. He does make sure we don't go hungry if I am not feeling up to cooking though. I am very blessed to have him. Keep warm and safe up there.
You do get some bad weather in Minnesota, and late in the year too. Nothing you're not prepared for, but it's a pity about that old tree.
Hope all the family are keeping safe and well, especially your father. Good luck and God Bless 👍
Hi there gotta love Northern Mn weather here?!
My M tractor will not leave the driveway at all until the weather is Dry,Dry!!
This time of year and the next few weeks you will have a week of work fixing the ruts in the yard if you have to drive across it lol.
Over where you guys are its its mostly sand 2 miles away from you guys to the East it's all clay over here!!!
Great video Joe and you all stay safe out there.
Nice video!
Hope everything turns out ok! Great video joe! 👍🏻
Country folk can survive home made 🍞 cooking on wood stove. And pushing snow with the Farmall M you and Melissa be safe. No lock down yet in NW Florida.
Love your videos. You keep yourself busy, everyday. I shouldn't say, but, I just don't understand why you haven't cleaned up the trash off the floor in your terrific workshop. Both my husband and I very much appreciate and enjoy your videos. Keep them coming. BTW you got us to try pork-steaks, and now we're hooked on them!
You must be related to Stella!
Anne K Spot on! 🤣😂🤣
I wait until I have some extra room in the garbage can and then I have been slowly getting the piles put in there. I have no where else to put it. It does no good to just move the pile from the workshop to another spot because the pile still is there. It just will take some time. You can not beat a good pork steak. Lol. Thank you.
You've got a great backup plan for power outages. Impressive!
Thanks for shorter and more often videos Joe! Us shut-ins love it!
Good job Joe, sure is nice to have things prepared for power outages ! You do a great job keeping the most important things on with your generator so you can be safe. Thanks for sharing with us and keep safe up there. Fred.
Another great video to keep us going, thanks!
Take care Joe and Melissa during lock down. I'm from minnesota.
Great video,Joe!
Thank you.
Keep safe
Ok you convinced me I’ll build a little place on your beautiful property an never have anything not to do. Lol.
Hi Joe, I'll bet your glad you left Louisiana and returned to the farmhouse
I looked for tinned spinach here in Australia, we don't have it, just saying sorry, but I fancied some watching you guys cook it, so tried to see if I could get it, but na, we have cans of corn, peas, beans of various types and asparagus but not spinach, as some would say in America, Dang !! love that
Thank you Joe, great video! 👍👍👍💯💯💯
Wow it was an exciting weekend for sure good grief...snow storm, part of a tree downed, no power, thank God for generators lolol. Don't you feel Blessed? Now you can sit down with a cup of hot chocolate or coffee or tea or even a COLD beer hahaha you earned it!!! God bless and I sure hope you all have a quiet week LOL
GREAT video!!
Every time I see you on the tractor it reminds me that your tractor was made in Rock Island IL. Part of the Quad Cities USA!!! My home town..
You had it right all along. ❤️
Catching up on videos 👍👍👍
That bread looks yummy can I have the Heel slice? lol
ure glad you got the power back my friends. Be safe and hugs to you and Melissa and scratches for Joanie and Chunk.
Thank you Joe always enjoy. Stay safe.
Dude! Put your beer in the snow!! 😉🇨🇦
Right?🍻
Priorities Joe! Priorities! Shoot it would’ve been the first course of action for me that day. 😇Frosty, cold one by mid morning for sure! 😁😇🤣🍺🍻
It will not get to that perfect almost freezing temperature. Lol.
South Dakota is supposed to get the heavy wet snow (6+ inches) on Thursday...hopefully we’ll keep power! Stay safe and healthy!
Man you do everything
Be safe joe u and your family here in il state we lock down and everything is closed so be safe great video 😃can’t wait to see opening fishing video 🎣
Joe it might be time to think about putting a little wood stove in the house just for this kind of emergency
I agree.
@@NorthernSeclusion it sucks lose power its same here too even nice days powers goes out too wich after spending $3300 on a 20hp 30'' husqavarna st430 blower and a $160.00 spreader and then im pulling the triger and buy a honda or wacker or kubota generator
You are well prepared. Contingency plans in place.
hi hope u guys r healthy there wow that was big branch blow down
you can find a Roll Bar and Canopy for your farmell tractor.. the good is.. you'd be able to work in rain and not get your seat wet.. plug you can install some led lights (the ones you got on the canopy top),
is there a way you can attach the generator to the house (while the power is out)...and have 1 light (low voltage bulb) in the garage or the workshop or even the house thats attached to the company power (shut off switch)..so when the lights do come back on the bulb goes on and you know that you don't need the generator no more.
Joe if you want small consistent pieces of hamburger, put about 1/3 cup of water in with your burger as soon as you start to fry it. Keep stirring and the hamburger will separate just like in a coney dog. Diners drive ins and dives. Show on food network.
You can make them all long videos Joe, we don't mind. Nothing like grilled food straight off the grill in the winter time, lol. That bread looks good. The way they go through bread around here I need to invest in one those bread makers. I've heard it's really good. I didn't know it did the mixing for you, that's a plus. Tyfs God bless you
You just put in the ingredients, shut the lid, push the start button and in 3 hours you have a loaf of fresh bread.
@@NorthernSeclusion sounds good to me
Seen in the weather news North Minnesota got hit with heavy snow and long power outage, Cloquet was one the list. Thought about you guys and glad everything is fine.👍
See Joe if Captain Caveman learned to exist using basics then why not us - just prioritise what needs power! Cheers Mate.
Joe there was a great video on our news feed here in SW Indiana. A doctor was pulled over for speeding but he gave her masks instead of a ticket. Duluth I think.
That is awesome.
Itd be nice to have the farmall electrol program generator for that power outage.
joe. how about a standby generator it turn on 30 second after the power go out. they run on propane, gasoline, natural gas and diesel. no needed for extension cord no needed to do any thing. I have two one at my N.J. house it run on natural gas the MT house run on propane. just change the oil each year or service after 100 hour run and just check oil it run once a week to charge battery.
I just love you Joe, sorry Melissa, lol. But I watch you cook and I think things like "put a cover on that" then here you are with your alum. foil, lol. Pork steak my Favorite, yummmm, and on the grill, now you breakin my heart, lol. Glad you all are good and prayers for that to continue, Blessings!
Sorry bout your ele i know that can be hard, but you was able to do other things to keep going, That bread looks good i bet yalls super will be great, yall take care and be safe
Change the oil on the generator.. and clean the plug.. also cut the tree for either firewood or some piece for a wooden project, stay safe.. stay warm.. GOD BLESS.
Edward Seth That looked like a pine, shouldn't burn that in stove. We had a wood burning stove for many years. My husband only burned hard woods.
About 3 years ago our power was going out a lot. I got tired of messing with my generator and all the gas used in it and worrying if i could get gas in town so i bought a natural gas conversion kit. It cost a little bit but it is well worth the money. Just check the oil every now and then and set back and wait for it to come back on. The best part is that since i done that the power has only been off once and that was just four hours. But it worked great then. And it is dual fuel now so it will still run on gasoline too. If anyone is thinking about doing this i can tell you that mine does a real good job. You can get them for propane too.
Farmall M....BOOM 💥
He really takes care of her...geez💁
hey Joe we love pork too. Try sprinkling a little nutmeg on your pork steaks. It's dutch style and OMG delish. Going to try your bread recipe. I hope that is quick rise yeast your using. Let me know if you can. Thanks
It is just active dry yeast. I am not sure if that means quick rise. It is just the yeast we always use for bread.
Hi joe, if your electricity goes off your internet will still work, internet providers have a head end backup from battery. You can make a lead up and use a 9v block battery to power your modem if the generator runs out of Gas. I remember you said your broadband is slow so my Guess its ADSL and not Fibre so your only powering the modem and not a Fibre ONT along with the modem
Cheeseburger Macaroni is my favorite. Try the Velveta brand - I like it better because the noodles aren't so big and the cheese is better.
That hamburger helper looks good. Wish I could eat that kind of stuff but I’m lack toast intolerate. 😂
The hamburger masher cutter upper is the best kitchen tool made,
Thanks Joe, I am still working away in my truck, always look forward to the wee switch off from my life, more videos will be much appreciated by myself & many others.
I think this is the storm we had in TN that was pretty bad, lots of lightening, thundering and rain also with some trees down. Think it hit us Sunday ish. Checked my mom's house to see about trees fallen and it's okay, along with mine but I was for sure worried about something like that limb of yours falling on the roof.
Stay home and stay healthy. : ) peace
@Randy Bingham He is a hard worker no matter where he goes. : ) peace
I tried your go to bread recipe but use ap flour instead of bread flour. Wasn't sure if it would work or not but came out great. Won't have to buy expensive bread flour.
Hello on your tractor bucket. Have you thought about putting a 1/2 plate on the bottom of the bucket to make it stronger.
We are not on lock down here in Georgia, I have been issued an "Essential Employee" order and can travel! Please take care!
I am next door in Bama and we can move about and go to work for now. Schools are closed.
Uncle Mike, I'm stuck at Trinka Davis Veteran's Village, in Carrollton, GA. At least my relatives can send me things that I can't get! We are on lock down... Semper Fidelis
@katy bourassa Yes we do have a stay at home order. We go to work as essential employees and get grocery when needed. We are in Anniston.
Hi Joe, another awesome video again. Glad that tree never hit the house on you. When I was watching you move the tree I was saying to myself that Joe will be going for his chainsaw soon especially when the tree fell off of the bucket. Well I got my answer about 30 seconds later when yo said you didn't have your chainsaw there at the farm house. Another thing to pick up so you can have one when you need it. I was wondering if you could find out the actual name of that hamburger cutter you where using. I would certainly love to pick one up. I googled hamburger cutter and many name variations but couldn't find anything like that one. Thanks Joe and stay safe and keep warm. Until the next video we will see you on the next one. Tom
This is the one they sent us. Thank you. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00TTZGVSC/ref=ppx_od_tab_ap_asin_title_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
