It’s been 5 months but damn, glad this random upload of Wave Goodbye on my otherwise mostly dead channel ended up as the one to catch the algorithm, I love seeing all of the nostalgic comments on this, it really gives me something to come to when I need a lift in my day ❤ P.S. Stay Fresh!
Marie won Splatoon 1’s Finale Fest, Callie won Splatoon 2’s Finale Fest, and now they’ve both won together for Splatoon 3’s Finale Fest. They’ve come so far, they’ve come full circle. It’s beautiful.
I just love how at 3:00 the chanting of the calimari inkantation starts , Nintendo knows that song has passed the test of time and it's a staple for Splatoon games to hype the game
One detail I love is that this isn't just a song Callie and Marie made, it's a song of the Inklings as a whole. It's a very traditional song, passed down from generation to generation, meaning any time it plays, not just Callie and Marie and with you, not just the entire inklings, not even the entire world. Everyone of the Inkling, Octoling, Salmonoids, Every race is singing with you to back you up. It's as if the ancestors are fighting with you to prevent these threats from destroying not only civilizations they built, but then entire world even.
Just want to remind y’all that apparently 10,000 years into the future after the fall of man, this new marine society still finds Spongebob relevant enough to have a whole Splatfest themed off after him, so we are still kind of kept in mind in a way. Apparently one human legacy is still cared for, and that’s kind of sweet in my opinion.
This is most likely due to the liquid crystals that the Alternans harvested, which fell into the water in Alterna when things went to pot with the first rocket launch. In the Alterna Logs, it says that the liquid crystals reacted heavily to the Last Humans wishes and wants, which is partially why inklings, octolings and all of them are what they are in the game. Spongebob is and probably will be a staple TV show, so there could be a high chance that they still remember it from the human's wishes
@DaNinjaKat it is in the future, Nintendo made it have same year as the release date to make it easy (eg 2022 years after the death of humans). Its also called ‘mollusk era’ or ‘H.E.’ I think
"Wave goodbye" it's a nice way not only to say the end of the saga, but also it would be a nice homage to mr. grizz to say to him, to all the mammals and all the humans who lost their lives thousand years ago finally "goodbye" and in the same way "you're in our thoughts"
@@kuruis direct said something along the lines of the splatoon 3 story mode being the end of a saga. presuming that doesn't mean they just aren't gonna make splatoon games anymore (unlikely) it probably means that next entries just won't focus on the story of the first three games very much. so squidbeak platoon and the squid sisters probably won't play a role.
@@kuruis it isn't sure or clarified at all, but since nintendo said it's the end of the saga, many people belive that this means complete new characters are getting the spotlight
The new squidbeak splatoon could be returning in future sagas, it’s just that we’re not gonna get octarians as enemies anymore and we’re gonna have to fight totally new ones like maybe sharks
Goodbye splatoon 1. For the joys u have bring us, it’s sad for you to “wave goodbye” but we just have to accept it and move on. It’s like Nintendo was trying to tell us of this sorrowful moment through this song. Thank you splatoon 1, stay fresh with us while we continue with our lives. Stay fresh.
i started bawling when the calimari inkantation chanting started. it doesn't sound super warble-y like regular cephalopod vocals, so i like to imagine it represents us, the players, and humanity in general echoing through their music and the game as a whole
There's a theory that the Chorus of Calamari County has its roots as a folk song from the human civilization. The liquid crystals remember humanity's thoughts, and it is said that the Chorus is etched into Inklings' and Octolings' DNA. This means humans actually sang the melody at some point.
@@TroyVan6654 This reminds me of the Splatune Paradox Conspiracy Basically a model of Splatune was in the game and someone found, went absolutely buck wild over the fact that the game itself is canon to the game and this world is eventually a ticking time bomb to the death of humanity.
@@Anaea well, yeah. I think it's pretty obvious that the game's story about what happened to humanity is about climate change. It's pretty on the nose. Which i think is why that model is in the game.
@@Anaea We don't even need Splatune for that! It was canon back in Splatoon 1 that Splatoon (the game) exists in the Splatooniverse because in the Sunken Scroll with the human fossil, you can see that they were buried along with a Wii U and the horrendously janky Pro Controller-tied-to-a-Wiimote situation the local multiplayer used if player 2 wanted motion controls. Oh yeah, and the Callie vs. Marie Splatfest came about from our in-universe arguments about who's better being reflected from space back to Inkopolis, like all Splatfests.
3:00 Imagine if Calamari Inkantation was a different song that was made by humans, and that the reason for the song's effect on the Inklings and Octolings of the mollusk era is because it echoes the voices and wishes of the last humans, maybe they call it a heavenly melody because the race that created it is eternally in a better place.
actually, if i recall correctly (unlikely, dont take my word for this) it is from human culture, as an important song that was found, something or other... idk its been a while
They are the first two agents, it will be wired if the next game doesn’t includes them, OTH is only in the DLC, deep cut are not agents(yet) but I believe they will eventually add captain 3, Callie and Marie back :)))
Can't believe it's all over now. I remember playing the first Splat3 fest. It was my first splatfest ever. I had a blast, and was so excited for all the future splatfests. And now, here we are, at what seems to be the final splatfest. And it's all over now. I can't believe it all went by so fast.
There’s something really bittersweet about this song. It’s like a goodbye to the humans and all mammals. I think it’s fitting that the last thing the humans did was try to escape and explore. It’s what makes humans great, but also flawed. but even then, humanity lives on as marine life in a way. even if we all die life will go on. Honestly it was kind of sad to see mr grizz go though, even though he was a corporate overlord.
@@warmaniac989 that could be his corpse you know considering they practically showed one in the sunken scrolls and let you display it in your locker i wouldn't be surprised 💀
@@Gigachad-mc5qz those are most likely prerecorded messages, and always have been, so they’ll keep playing with mr grizz gone. also, lil judd starts wearing a headset after you finish the story mode and has all(?) the salmon run cards and grizzco-themed card sleeves in tableturf so he could very well be the one making sure the messages keep playing when nobody is there to trigger them after the radio is swapped
yeah i feel bad for him. imagine waking up on an earth where everyone and everything you ever knew was completely gone and had been gone for tens of thousands of years.
In more ways than one, this song is saying goodbye to us. First, this brings the Squid Beak Splatoon arc to a close, and Callie and Marie are thanking us for taking this journey with them. Second, it is quite literally saying goodbye to us, as in the mammals that lived on earth before the sea creatures took over, and acknowledging that the era of humanity is over.
I was already crying pretty hard at this song but the part where you can hear human vocals chanting along to Calamari Inkantation absolutely broke me. I can’t explain why but it did
@@spoon7053 idk if they gave it, it's more like, they fucked their own planet up and in a last desperate attempt to go back to how things were, they brought their demise and the world healed and became something new
I think it’s not only because of the bittersweet lore connotations (accepting the extinction of humanity, and realizing that their achievements get to live on through the Inklings), and because sometimes we forget there are people behind bringing these worlds to life. Some crazy folks had these ideas of tofu blocks and paint guns and squids in a 90’s skatepark making a colorful mess, and it really reminds you that we can do anything. Doomed to extinction or not, humanity will always be creating bizarre, wonderful things like this, and we all have the power to contribute to that. I got my start in digital art because of the original Splatoon’s Miiverse posts, and I’ll bet this series inspired tons of other people out there to create as well. Always reach for the stars, even if you can’t quite grasp them.
bouta step outta my comfort zone and admit this game has done so much for me. i dont care if no one understands or cares even. this game man. this fucking game. it raised me (and so many others, im sure) in middle school, a time when i was confused about my identity and questioning everything i knew - this game was like my comfort item. it was the one constant in my life that i so needed at the time. i cant emphasize how much it means to me - it literally raised me. shaped me into the person i am today, even. i owe so much to this game, i couldnt possibly put my immeasurable gratitude into words. yeah, maybe it didnt influence/raise me as much as it did for others, as i only got into this series in 2017 (i got the first game when it first came out, but couldnt figure out how to play due to parental restrictions on internet usage)- but holy SHIT man did it come into my life in a crucial time. yeah i may be making this overexaggerated too, but i just cant express how important, how influential, prominent, how significant this game is and has been for me, and not to mention for the countless others who have grown up with this game as well. i wanna scream how much i love this gameee. this game - it just feels like home. thats the only way ill be able to describe it and now the third installment in the franchise only feels like a great celebration of the entire series as a whole - celebrating how far weve come in these seven, eight long years since the first game. celebrating the achievements, and just how much this series has accomplished in creating a masterpiece. and yet it also feels like a conclusion. celebrating all weve achieved, yet also bringing the whole story to an end of sorts. obviously, not an actual end - seeing as its one of nintendos most recent accomplished, freshest IPs, along with the years worth of updates to come as well as the DLC on its way - but still, theres just such a final feeling to it all. i can say with some semblance of confidence that this will likely be the last time well be seeing the (N)NSS in its entirety; last time well likely be seeing the squid sisters, cuttlefish, octavio, maybe even the entirety of the octarian menace. weve concluded the entire arc of the characters weve known since our childhoods, and now? now, its time for a new chapter. one that involves off the hook, deep cut, possibly even agents 8 or even 4. who knows. who knows what else even. because yes, while this is indeed a conclusion to characters we know and love so well, this also marks the beginning of a new chapter in a new story. a new step in a new direction. and im not sure if im ready to move on yet. anyway, thanks for reading my love letter to splatoon, and i cant wait to see where the series goes from here
I love you man. I get this, and I totally relate on this level. Thank you for your love letter to Splatoon, getting emotional myself over here, too....
As a storywriter, this series sticks out to me. Being able to create characters and organically place them into such a deep, fleshed-out world has been nothing short of a magical experience. Not only has the game been fun and thought-provoking, but it's also so accessible for character creators. Anyone can be anything in this inclusive world of cephalopods.
I love this game I got the second one but I fell in love with it this was one of the first Nintendo games I really played and I still do #splatoonforever
Callie and Marie are basically the Mario and Luigi of Splatoon. You just can’t have Splatoon without them. I’m sure this won’t be the last we see/hear of them.
To describe Alterna, and Return of the Mammalians in a single word, I'd say... *Melancholy.* Through the story, we witnessed the desperate final attempt of a mentally broken being, to return the world to the way he remembers it. Through the Alterna logs, we learned of the final days of humanity, the day our hopes and dreams, our sins and hubris, all were buried beneath stone and crystal, but we also witnessed the creation of a new form of life, brought on by the emotions we recorded in those liquid crystals, to be given a new form in the Inklings and the Octolings. We witness the spirited defense of this new way of life, this brave world of cephalopods and sea life, by the ones who inherited it all. Putting aside their differences, even for just a moment, to save the world together. And at the end of it all, the broken being, defeated, sees that the world must move forward, that his time has come and gone. I'd love to sit under that false sky in Alterna and just...ponder.
This might just be my mind being weird, but at 3:13 - 3:14 The human-like vocals sound like they’re saying “You need to get along” to the new inhabitants of earth. It’s like they’re saying: “We messed up and failed, but we know that you can do it better. So keep on living for us.”
Inklings and Octolings were also close to be just like humans, cause a massive war, and go extinct, but thanks to the Calamari Inkantation, really woke everyone up to stop Al the fighting, and just get along!
June 1st, 2015. I was so excited. I was an 8 year old, telling the cashier at GameStop how stoked I was to play Splatoon. We went to Dairy Queen and then headed home. I played the game and was immersed into a crazy squid world. It was weird. It was colorful. It was even a little creepy at times… but I *loved* it. That day was one of the best days of my life.
As a salaried adult consulting professional at the time, I am sorry for all the times me and the other late 20s-early 30s Japanese salarymen splatted you guys back then during splatfests. Splatoon was a way to escape the stress of work and remember being a kid playing Tony Hawk or Jet Grind Radio.
This takes me back to when I was like 10 and I got a WiiU with the original Splatoon for christmas. And now around 6 years later I am holding the third installment in my hand, which wraps up the original story(with Cuttlefish, Callie, Marie and the Agents 3,4 and 8, as well as Cap'n 3). When the credits played, I just had to be a little emotional, since the game, especially the Inklings, Octolings and the whole world is growing up with you. Now let's enjoy the future content of this brand new Splatoon and wait, if they will have a new one in store for us, when the next Nintendo console generation rolls around. Emotions aside: I highly doubt, that Nintendo would end one of their best franchises. Especially since it's very high selling in Japan.
I feel u, I first played splatoon back on the wiiu (came with it also lol) and I loved it. That was back in 2016. Now it's almost 2023 and... just the fact that it's been 7 years since that first day. Making an inkling for the first time, the secret playable octolings and the final fest. Dont forget the original offline multilayer mode :( The song makes me feel so nostalgic for it all. Sometimes I'll miss the original Splatoon, when it was just a small new series Nintendo made. Everything that's happened in this series though, its truly amazing
The characters in game have been designed slightly older with each installment to represent the young children who played the first game now being teenagers. I'm betting the gremlins are gonna be short af in the next game and its gonna be a soft reboot
Gonna embarrass myself a lil here and just say, I cried my fucking eyes out at this song. Even if it's not the end of splatoon as a series, it damn feels like it. I've been playing since I was about 10 years old when I got my Wii U, and since then the series has become something that means alot to me. So many of my friends and parts of my identity that make me *me* are because of this silly little squid game. I still choke up at into the light. Have a good 2 years splatoon 3
The song gave me a nice bittersweet feeling. Knowing that while this isn't the last splatoon at all, this is the end of the Squid Sisters story. It was built up over 3 games, including Grizz and it's come together in a wonderful conclusion. While I didn't cry, I'm happy to see a proper ending to these wonderful characters, and I'm sure we'll see them across the other games. Now OE and it's themes of racial tensions and overcoming theme and just the relationship Pearl and Marina have on top of Into the Light, yeah I cried at that fucking hard. Well..we'lll see in awhile what new adventure they have, I'm sure it might have something to do with Little Judd taking over Grizzco maybe... who knows.
@@solarprogeny6736 A this point, marine civilization has gained more knowledge about human speech and language. The band Sashi Mori uses snippets of human speech in their songs and I think human speech being added into a song that has the message of saying goodbye to the past humans left on the new world is quite fitting.
There's a bunch of others i would like to point out 0:48 " Kiramekimashou (let's sparkle) " 2:28 " Kirameku shio~kaze no hoshii ( sparkling sea breeze star) " 4:02 " kirameku shiokaze ni yurete ( swaying in the sparkling sea breeze) "
I keep hearing Marie sing "I'll miss you" and I'm losing it. 😭 The first thing my sister and I said when we completed the game together was "Their vocals have improved so much!" Or rather, we truly meant that the mixing and tuning to let their emotion come through less robotic. Nintendo has finally nailed it. They seriously shine here. I cried so much. It makes my heart feel full and empty at the same time.
This song really has "Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened" vibes. ♥️😭🌈 I can't imagine how such a silly game made so many memories and friends for me. I'm so glad to be part of such an amazing franchise.
@@upscale9109 end of the series? What do you mean? This is just the end of arc 1. Since the octarians and inklings have finally worked together to save the world, the original purpose of the squidbeak splatoon is over. Instead, most likely a new force made of inklings and octolings will be made, id call it The Cephlopod Squad, a new threat will show itself in arc 2
my reaction when i saw splatoon for the first time was literally "this looks stupid." 7 years later and it's one of my favorite franchises of all time, there's truly nothing like it and splatoon 3 blew me away with its story mode. i know that this arc may be finished, but i really, really hope we get more. i feel like we will, because a shot in the dark for a new ip has become the most successful game release in japan *ever* as of today. godspeed, splatoon
Yeah, when Splatoon was new and all we had was the "you're a kid now you're a squid now" trailers, I thought the game would be stupid. Played it myself and it's one of my favorite games
@@MadWeegee all i remember was every kid anticipating its release at school and myself only knowing it for those commercials. it was almost genius marketing in a way, it got everyone talking about the game even if they didn't like it and (evidently) some of them got hooked later on
me with shooter genre games these are dumb 7-8 years later splatoon has become one of my favorite games with the unqiue weaponry and so many ways for me to go nuts with completionism
The Squid Sisters predicted the future with this song. Goodbye Splatoon 1, I’ll forever treasure the brilliant memories I’ve made on this wonderful game and I’ll forever Stay Fresh.
This song reminds me a lot of Fresh Start (credits theme from Splatoon 2). I wasn't sure how much of the squid sisters we were gonna get in this game, but it was nice to see them fully involved with the campaign. Obviously this isn't going to be the last Splatoon game, but I do think it will probably be the last numbered game, and whatever game we get next (which won't be for a WHILE) won't be Splatoon 4. But it won't have the Squid Sisters, Cuttlefish, or any of the Squids v. Octarian stuff. Which is fine by me. I'm ready to see what comes next. Curious to see if the DLC sets that up.
Yeah, I noticed that it was very similar to Fresh Start as well. It almost sounds like its.. the backwards version? Like with what they did with Ballad of the Goddess and Zelda's Lullaby (BoG is the backwards version of Zelda's lullaby)
I always cry when I hear this. I never got the chance to play the first game before it died, but ever since I watched the credits of splatoon 2, I knew splatoon would never leave my heart. It has its ups and downs (especially 3) but it solidly stole my heart... And I'm hoping that there will be a fourth game. I may have chose team Present out of honesty, but I'm truly happy that the Squid Sisters won. After all they've been through, they're finally together ❤
For everyone thinking this means the end of Splatoon as a series, I doubt it. With how popular and profitable it is, it’s pretty much a Nintendo staple now. It’s not going anywhere. But this is the end of something about Splatoon’s current trilogy of single player stories. The Inkling and Octarian war… The New Squidbeak Splatoon… Hell, I’m not even sure if The Squid Sisters will play a major role in future stories, or if they’ll appear on screen at all.
well yeah we still have a bunch of mysteries left and a lots of themes link to society to explore. so no its definitly not over.(looking at you l'il juds).
Splatoon 1 came out when I was 18, and it was an extremely dark point in my life when I started playing on Christmas, way after I turned 19 at that point. I've played ever since. I teared up during Spicy Calamari Inkantation in Splatoon 2, but for some reason this song absolutely broke me. I cried like a bitch during the credits, even more so with the Calamari Inkatation chant started. Maybe it's nostalgia, maybe it's because the squid sister's arc is over but either way... this game is fantastic, with the lore and it's silly squid warbles during matches and... everything. I will always love this game to the bottom of my heart. I may be 25 now, but man... I never expected this game to have this MUCH of an impact on me. I'm rambling. But to whoever reads this, thank you for reading.
If I had a nickel for each time a series of games had a very touching story about humanity failing to save themselves and passing on their legacy to something else, with nonsense but incredibly beautiful vocal songs expressing that world perfectly, I'd only have two nickels but I'm glad it happened twice.
I’m sorry Into the Light, but you’ve finally been defeated. Fr I’m actually in tears listening to this. Edit: Wait. I TAKE IT BACK. It’s a tie… for now…
I’m not afraid to admit I was bawling while the credits rolled. It’s a powerful song for the ending of the Splatoon Saga. I’m sure Nintendo will make more Splatoon games after 3, but wow were all three of these amazing. (Big story below) Starting with Splatoon 1, I got my Wii U with the intention of playing MK8 and Infinity. My aunt bought me the game, and I think I saw Stampy playing it once. I was (kind of) hooked. So after forcing my dad to get me though the tutorial and taking a year to beat the first boss (I was petrified). I got home, and skipped homework, going straight for the TV and playing for hours. Played through the Splatfests, and was usually on the losing team. #TeamCallie SplaToon 2 came out, and I spent a good 1,300+ on that. I loved both of those amazingly. Then came Splat 3…wow. It was incredible, and I wish I extended my time beating it. Moral of the story, it’s gonna be hard telling the Squid Sisters bye, and the Squidbeak Splatoon- but who knows? I guess we’ll find out in the coming years. Edit: also adding that the Squid Sister have been music I’ve listened too since I discovered the game. Love all their songs! Thanks for listening to the big story. Stay Fresh everyone! :)
Same here and I’m not afraid to admit it either this was giving me nostalgia vibes for me I remember when I first got Splatoon on the Wii U and played the heck out of it Splatoon is a series that I will always love and cherish ❤️ and it’s the best IP Nintendo has ever made imo.
The squid sisters are so important to splatoon 1 and 2 and 3 that without them it's not the split splat game anymore. They are so good and I think google made a some sort of a Easter egg featuring them. They made them appear as a real group! Sometimes you can see youtube music compilation for you and it says which autors it is about. And if you get the splatoon songs then you will see TH-cam thinks that most of the songs are made by some people but... squid sisters are an actual band registered in TH-cam music and it's actually THEIR SONGS!!! This easter egg is amazing for splatoon fans like me or ya all. Btw stay fresh and thx for reading this shitty comment!🐙🦑🦀🦞🦐
I don't know if anyone will relate to this, but i genuinely cried, this franchise has been with me pretty much my entire life, i love Splatoon, i love the Idols, i love Nintendo and it's employees for making this amazing game.
At 1:57 it kinda sounds like Marie sings "I'm gonna miss you" and honestly, I'm gonna miss you too. Thank you Splatoon for letting me be Agent 3 twice.
Wow, this really hits harder than it has too. All the memories i've made since I first picked up the game in 2016, are so nostalgic and I'm glad I spent my childhood playing this masterpiece of a trilogy, they'll most likely be another Splatoon on the next gen console, but something about this song really marks an End of an Era. Like I don't know how to describe it, but it's almost like telling you to say your goodbyes to your childhood for good.
Well I have news....grand fest might be the last fest ever. RIP splatoon 3. Servers will still work up until the switches time comes though but... all we will have might be...nothing. Theres a sticker on the current season that says thanks for playing. My heart man.
so splat 3 has been out a whole 2 years now! and I am. about to turn 20. my later childhood has been spent racing to finish homework, no matter the age, to play splatoon, to join a splatfest, to try and get the last salmon run rotation of the day before it closed for the week. i am like 90% sure i have permanent carpal tunnel in my wrist from playing this game. but i digres - splatoon is fucking real and it is love and it is life and it is a game about stupid fucking squids and octopi and sometimes the most gutwrenching music I've ever heard. and i love it! and i love my lil squids. yes.
GrandFest is nearly upon us, and soon we will have to "Wave Goodbye" to this era of Splatoon. It'll be sad to see the end of support for Splatoon 3, but I know that there are still good times ahead for this franchise. So, let's reminice about the fun we've had in "Past" while enjoying the "Present" festivities of Grandfest, knowing that the "Future" of the Splatoon series is bright. Stay fresh; don't get cooked, stay off the hook; and catch ya later!
We gotta Wave Goodbye to Splatoon 3 soon, all the Maritime Memories we had created will go through a Fresh Start, when we head Into The Light, when we start going onward, we will always remember to stay fresh, to stay off the hook and to catch them later. Thank you Splatoon 3.
I believe the part beginning at 3:00 may actually be Shiho Fujii's (one of Splatoon's composers and the songwriter for the Squid Sisters) original rough demo of Calamari Inkantation.
Though I didn't play the other splatoon games this song did get me kind of emotional. The calm kind of sad melody and the story it's really impactful. Humanity might be gone but their fiery spirit still lives on in our cephalopod successors
I almost shredded a tear from completing hero mode, it gave me "fresh start" vibes while the instruments were very similar from the recent game. This has to be the end of the story in the whole franchise, helping DJ Octavio was very brave. Splatoon will always be forever in our hearts and a great fun living to us.
Knowing that this is most likely their last song, it makes me sad knowing that I've played all three games and these two have been apart of it all, Marie is my all time fav she's super cool, and Callie is really energetic which I like. If this is the end of the squid sisters, I'm glad they went all out cause this song is beautiful 😭♥️
Through the years this has become one of Nintendos most successful franchises of all time and I don’t think this is the end of splatoon. WE ARE UNITY(edit:wow 90 likes I appreciate the support ❤) I guess this is it then huh? 😢😊
I’m pretty sure this isn’t the end of splatoon at all, just the end of the new squidbeak splatoon saga, which means that we probably won’t see the squid sisters again on a mainline game 🥲
Splatoon 3’s Hero Mode is the perfect way to (probably) end the story we have followed so far. I hope in the next games or in the paid DLC we see what OtH and Agents 4 and 8 are up to (I mean we know OtH is with Damp Socks but you know what I mean lol). Gosh, I love this series so much.
Well, we saw Pearl and Marina's silhouettes with the announcement of the DLC, so at minimal those two will probably play a role. I kinda hope we get to see Damp Socks themselves too
I hope we still get more of Splatoon. The Squid Sisters triology has come to an end. Imagine seeing Pearl and Marina on the main games instead of the dlc or deep cut arc
This isn't the end, this isn't even the end of Callie, Marie, or the Squidbeak Splatoon, it is just the end of the war between Squid and Octo, Octavio isn't the enemy anymore. There will be more monsters and madness sure to come. Tartar and Grizz both went nuts due to their LONG time alone
once I finished gathering the Alterna lore I was able to understand what the song was about. for me it is about complicating the possibilities that the imagination can grant and how it give beauties to a world. as human wish to see the sky once again ,the marine life absorbed that dream and carry that dream along with the foundation of our modern psyche. through a form a miracle humanity was reincarnates only retaining is most fantastic aspect.
@@friccle_ i mean they never were racist per says just ignorant. the war was for territorie. then the Octarian got forgotten underground. there even was peace at a moment before it happens. so the situation at the end of splat 2 is a return to a status quo.
Bet you didn’t know where you’d end up eh 10 year old me? Enjoying the funny squid paintball game so much it redefines your life? Here’s to 9 more years Thanks nogami.
Despite splatoon 3 being the first splatoon game I got, this franchise was in my heart since 2016, even if I had no idea about the lore, my 7 year old brain still had the capacity to make an OC and actually stay in the fandom now at 14. I thank this game from the bottom of my heart. And I hope the next story is as great as the squid sisters story.
I remember there is a saying: "They come, and they go. What remains are memories... ...and memories last eternal" The New Squidbeak Splatoon, founded by Captain Cuttlefish, with it's first two agents a.k.a 'Squid Sisters', and most notable agent ever created: 3 and 8. And boy they journey far, creating a legacy for the future generations. But all good things came to pass, and their story came to an end, they decided to depart with a blast. Now as the torch given to the next generation, we will see what awaits in the next chapter of Off the Hooks, Deep Cuts, and possibly the entirety of Inkling and Octoling society. Thank you so much for the memories, and remember... *...Stay Fresh!!!*
That saying also fits for the fate of humanity in the lore, too. They came, and they're gone. But they've left such a huge legacy that even 12,000 years after their end, that legacy not only lives on, but lives on so vividly and strongly. Echoing in every single Inkling and Octoling for as long as they breathe.
I get teary eyed whenever I listen to this. It might sound silly, but these games have done a lot for me. They've helped me through a lot of my depression and Splatoon has to be everything I've wanted in a video game (despite the constant communication errors, thanks Nintendo lol). But really, these games mean so much to me and I cannot wait for even more to come in the future. 💚
I want to make this a checkpoint. For us to sit back and reflect on life as this song reflects on the game franchise as a whole. We've come so far, yes there have been holes throughout the way, but that just makes this song even better. For players who've been here since the start, it feels like we finally have come to an end of this arc. The series we've grown up with is finally fully grown, and all we have left from the years are memories. "Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened." -Dr Seuss

I just love how at 3:00 the chanting of the calimari inkantation starts , Nintendo knows that song has passed the test of time and it's a staple for Splatoon games to hype the game
it kinda feels like in this moment the spirits of humans are singing with the squid sisters
It's written in our D.N.A. after all.
@@echo-wj6ls that brings a tear to my eyes. Especially after reading the Alterna logs
actually gives me chills and makes me tear up a bit idk why, no one is beyond the Calamari Inkantation
Apparently one human legacy is still cared for, and that’s kind of sweet in my opinion.
also tmnt, hello kitty and McDonald’s!
Tmnt kind of makes sense with turtles being aquatic creatures.
Does orca have anything to do with this?
“Wave goodbye” It really hits different now then it did when the game first released
"Wave goodbye" it's a nice way not only to say the end of the saga, but also it would be a nice homage to mr. grizz to say to him, to all the mammals and all the humans who lost their lives thousand years ago finally "goodbye" and in the same way "you're in our thoughts"
yes. A final farewell song to mammals.
how are we sure marie and callie are leaving?
@@TroyVan6654 This reminds me of the Splatune Paradox Conspiracy

There’s something really bittersweet about this song. It’s like a goodbye to the humans and all mammals. I think it’s fitting that the last thing the humans did was try to escape and explore. It’s what makes humans great, but also flawed. but even then, humanity lives on as marine life in a way. even if we all die life will go on. Honestly it was kind of sad to see mr grizz go though, even though he was a corporate overlord.

I was already crying pretty hard at this song but the part where you can hear human vocals chanting along to Calamari Inkantation absolutely broke me. I can’t explain why but it did
yeah its kinda bittersweet especially considering the lore of alterna. the humans gave the squids their humanity, at the cost of their own existence
This, my friend, is the power of music.
Un wich part?
Always reach for the stars, even if you can’t quite grasp them.
bouta step outta my comfort zone and admit this game has done so much for me. i dont care if no one understands or cares even. this game man. this fucking game. it raised me (and so many others, im sure) in middle school, a time when i was confused about my identity and questioning everything i knew - this game was like my comfort item. it was the one constant in my life that i so needed at the time. i cant emphasize how much it means to me - it literally raised me. shaped me into the person i am today, even. i owe so much to this game, i couldnt possibly put my immeasurable gratitude into words. yeah, maybe it didnt influence/raise me as much as it did for others, as i only got into this series in 2017 (i got the first game when it first came out, but couldnt figure out how to play due to parental restrictions on internet usage)- but holy SHIT man did it come into my life in a crucial time. yeah i may be making this overexaggerated too, but i just cant express how important, how influential, prominent, how significant this game is and has been for me, and not to mention for the countless others who have grown up with this game as well. i wanna scream how much i love this gameee. this game - it just feels like home. thats the only way ill be able to describe it
and now the third installment in the franchise only feels like a great celebration of the entire series as a whole - celebrating how far weve come in these seven, eight long years since the first game. celebrating the achievements, and just how much this series has accomplished in creating a masterpiece. and yet it also feels like a conclusion. celebrating all weve achieved, yet also bringing the whole story to an end of sorts. obviously, not an actual end - seeing as its one of nintendos most recent accomplished, freshest IPs, along with the years worth of updates to come as well as the DLC on its way - but still, theres just such a final feeling to it all. i can say with some semblance of confidence that this will likely be the last time well be seeing the (N)NSS in its entirety; last time well likely be seeing the squid sisters, cuttlefish, octavio, maybe even the entirety of the octarian menace. weve concluded the entire arc of the characters weve known since our childhoods, and now? now, its time for a new chapter. one that involves off the hook, deep cut, possibly even agents 8 or even 4. who knows. who knows what else even. because yes, while this is indeed a conclusion to characters we know and love so well, this also marks the beginning of a new chapter in a new story. a new step in a new direction. and im not sure if im ready to move on yet.
anyway, thanks for reading my love letter to splatoon, and i cant wait to see where the series goes from here

To describe Alterna, and Return of the Mammalians in a single word, I'd say...
*Melancholy.*
Through the story, we witnessed the desperate final attempt of a mentally broken being, to return the world to the way he remembers it.
If this song is symbolic that this is truly the end they went all out with Splatoon 3

I’m sure we’ll see the Squid Sisters again.
They’re like the Mario and Luigi of Splatoon. You just can’t have Splatoon without them.
they will most likely be in the hub somewhere like spyke who retired and was in a coffee shop in the square
@@triggerhappy4199
That’d be neat
well yeah we still have a bunch of mysteries left and a lots of themes link to society to explore. so no its definitly not over.(looking at you l'il juds).
I kinda hope that this is their last song. It'd be so fitting and amazing.
Wave goodbye literally gives me “fresh start” vibes… which means i love this song.
how are we sure marie and callie are leaving?
@@kuruis they did not said that Callie and Marie are leaving, they just said that the song gives "Fresh Start" vibes
Same bro 👍
nice
Sounds like a fresh start
Lol yep-
I was LITTERALLY waiting on them to break out a verse for it. Because you can tell at witch points it seemed like they where building up to it
If I had a nickel for each time a series of games had a very touching story about humanity failing to save themselves and passing on their legacy to something else, with nonsense but incredibly beautiful vocal songs expressing that world perfectly, I'd only have two nickels but I'm glad it happened twice.
What's the other one?

I’m sorry Into the Light, but you’ve finally been defeated.
Fr I’m actually in tears listening to this.
Edit: Wait. I TAKE IT BACK. It’s a tie… for now…
Into the light and Wave Goodbye They are the best songs of the Splatoon saga 😍😭😍😭😍
they’re both so good 😭
I'll give it a close second.
maritime memory is one of the best for me tbh, but all of them are sad bangers
Wave goodbye I bette imo but its so close cause Octo expansion was the best storymode I played for A WHILE so idk
Time to Wave Goodbye to Splatoon 1 as it now walks Into The Light
It’s now a Fresh Start for us, but we will never forget this Maritime Memory
"this game won't make me cry!"
(this song at the end)
(sobbing intensifies)
I’m not afraid to admit I was bawling while the credits rolled. It’s a powerful song for the ending of the Splatoon Saga. I’m sure Nintendo will make more Splatoon games after 3, but wow were all three of these amazing. (Big story below)
Starting with Splatoon 1, I got my Wii U with the intention of playing MK8 and Infinity.
I wanted to bawl so bad but I was with my family when I beat the game so I tried to keep the tears in 😭
Same here they were there for us all the time so it’s sooo hard to say goodbye
#teammarie i feel the same way😭😭😭😭
Here post grandfest... man this is beautiful. Goodnight my friends. And congratulations to team past everyone did good this splatfest
Had to play this theme after the Grand Festival. My favorite game on the Switch and one of my All-time favorite games.

The end credits certified it as My Favorite Game on the Nintendo Switch.
I will miss splatoon 1. It was fun while it lasted.
so splat 3 has been out a whole 2 years now! and I am. about to turn 20. my later childhood has been spent racing to finish homework, no matter the age, to play splatoon, to join a splatfest, to try and get the last salmon run rotation of the day before it closed for the week. i am like 90% sure i have permanent carpal tunnel in my wrist from playing this game. but i digres - splatoon is fucking real and it is love and it is life and it is a game about stupid fucking squids and octopi and sometimes the most gutwrenching music I've ever heard. and i love it! and i love my lil squids. yes.
Good luck! I’m 21 lol
Let's wave goodbye to a legend, splatoon. 👋
Yeah it is
This makes me want to give the creator of splatoon a bear hug as a thanks for all the good memories 🥲
Though I didn't play the other splatoon games this song did get me kind of emotional.
The calm kind of sad melody and the story it's really impactful.
Humanity might be gone but their fiery spirit still lives on in our cephalopod successors
God, this hits so much harder now that the Splatoon 1 servers have shut down. 3:22 got me crying 😭
Let's all Wave Goodbye to 2022
Knowing that this is most likely their last song, it makes me sad knowing that I've played all three games and these two have been apart of it all, Marie is my all time fav she's super cool, and Callie is really energetic which I like. If this is the end of the squid sisters, I'm glad they went all out cause this song is beautiful 😭♥️
I just love how the very beginning of the song sounds like the WiiU start up sound, it brings so much nostalgia
we all salute for the finished players and we will wave goodbye thank you for playing🫡😭
o7
Pretty fitting to end a threequel with a melancholic song after an insane space battle...
Through the years this has become one of Nintendos most successful franchises of all time and I don’t think this is the end of splatoon. WE ARE UNITY(edit:wow 90 likes I appreciate the support ❤) I guess this is it then huh? 😢😊
Thank you for everything splatoon may you continue to be an inspiration for all of us 💛🖤
I’m pretty sure this isn’t the end of splatoon at all, just the end of the new squidbeak splatoon saga, which means that we probably won’t see the squid sisters again on a mainline game 🥲
A rocket in the background would be so symbolic for the song’s meaning
Splatoon 3’s Hero Mode is the perfect way to (probably) end the story we have followed so far. I hope in the next games or in the paid DLC we see what OtH and Agents 4 and 8 are up to (I mean we know OtH is with Damp Socks but you know what I mean lol). Gosh, I love this series so much.
Well, we saw Pearl and Marina's silhouettes with the announcement of the DLC, so at minimal those two will probably play a role. I kinda hope we get to see Damp Socks themselves too
@@InfiniteThePhantomJackal Ooh, yeah that would be pretty cool.
@@InfiniteThePhantomJackalit's off the hook
This is their best song. Honestly it just shows how far they have come since the first game, I'm glad this is how they concluded Splatoon 3.
@@normanred9212 well then, i’ll definitely be sticking around for that then. i just started playing this game recently and it’s really god
once I finished gathering the Alterna lore I was able to understand what the song was about. for me it is about complicating the possibilities that the imagination can grant and
how it give beauties to a world. as human wish to see the sky once again ,the marine life absorbed that dream and carry that dream along with the foundation of our modern psyche.
through a form a miracle humanity was reincarnates only retaining is most fantastic aspect.
This implies that hardcore racism is also rooted into our dna since Octarians and Inklings had a straight up race war
Here’s to 9 more years
Thanks nogami.

It's a good thing i grew up with splatoon
I cannot hear 4:25 without seeing Mr Grizz floating in space looking like he's saying "Can someone help me get down from here please?"
its over.
I remember there is a saying:
"They come, and they go. What remains are memories...
...and memories last eternal"
The New Squidbeak Splatoon, founded by Captain Cuttlefish, with it's first two agents a.k.a 'Squid Sisters', and most notable agent ever created: 3 and 8.
RIP Agent 4 ig
Jokes aside, I like this comment. Even if we never see the NSS again, if this really is the end, we had fun.
Memories fade over time
i love how much it sounds so much their solo songs, (tide goes out and bomb rush blush) while still being fresh and new.
This song makes my heart overflow nostalgic. It also feels good especially when certain lyrics hit.
RIP SPLATOON 1 😭😭😭😭😭
o7
i had no clue squid noises could make me cry, but here we are. thank you splatoon, you'll always have a place in my heart
"Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened."
-Dr Seuss
This song honestly got me teared up, for the name, the series, nostalgia and how much time I put into this amazing game(s).
5:00 honestly made me space out ngl. I’m sad it’s over, but exited to continue the splatoon journey
i don't care how cringe i sound but hearing calamari inkantation in the background at 3:08 made me tear up
That’s not cringy at all
Feeling genuine emotions is never cringe
“Thank you for playing”
You’re welcome 🥲
See you all for Splatoon 4 🦑♥️
i'm really surprised that the squid sisters didn't sign this after the grand fest, would have been so beautiful.
I think it because the devs would need to make new choreography instead of porting & touching up previous irl concert ones. But yeah, it would be super fitting
