That is a great suggestion! I have looked into doing some classes but unfortunately I just don’t have the time at the moment. Hopefully someday soon!😊💜
Have been wanting to expand my tie dying to next level so mandalas are next step. Your video slowed to .25, allows me to see the detail of this technique. Many thanks…🙏🏼🫶🏼✌️
Great video. I have an online shopping cart full of dye and supplies. I'm going to try this design first. I need to thank youtube for the playback speed option! .5 speed is about perfect.
I never knew TieDye could look so freaking cool until I found this channel!!! I just don't have time with home life kids et cetera but the one personalizing craft I do takes up any extra time I have.
Thanks so much Zalia and you’re absolutely right. These dye art t shirts take multiple hours to tie and dye for full saturation but I love doing them. I’m glad you like it my friend!💜
This color pallet looks amazing, and I have a definite preference this Mandela over the 18 point one! I wonder what a 10 or 8 point Mandela would look like, I will have to look it ups and see. Thank you for making this video and showing off the shirt!
That’s very cool. I’ve been down with the Covid so I’m taking a break for a few days. Ordered a magnetic stirrer though so I can’t wait to get back into liquid again and creating my own colors. ✌🏻❤️
Thank you and I’m sorry to hear that. It sucks! I actually just got a magnetic stirrer myself but the Mason jars I tried to use it with are just to big for the amount of dye I use so I have to get some smaller ones. Other than that it’s pretty awesome. Get well soon my friend and thanks again😊💚
@@RiahsTieDye thank you. I actually bought a beaker set to go with it so I can do small or big mixes depending on the color. I can’t wait to try it it should be here tomorrow 😁
This is fabulous Riah! The pattern is so intricate, and the colours that you chose are so vibrant and beautiful! I hope that you're enjoying your July 4th long weekend!
Amazing video! Thanks for sharing! I might have missed it, but what is the colored spool you used after sinew on 12 pointer and first on the back triangle?
Thank you so much! So that is fishing line. It’s not necessary to use it but I find it’s a little easier to Tie the honeycomb with it. Hope this helps😊
Gorgeous!! Love the design and colors! Riah, have you done a dye mixing or thickening tutorial? I'm still in awe of how you manage to keep the dye in place in all those tiny little spaces!
Love the pattern. Would you mind explaining why you used the sinew first, then seemed to go over same ties with kite string? Or did I not see this correctly? It's really a technique tip. From New Mexico with thanks!
Thank you! So I used sinew and then went over it with fishing line to create tight but smaller lines for the separation of colors within the bubbles😊💚💙
If I haven't said thank you I definitely want to make sure I say it now!!!! I have been working on learning the Mandala and you have answered so many questions I have had. THANK YOU!!!! I can't want to see my next one! Do you use thickened dye? Also is that waxed paper you put between to keep the dye from spreading? Again, THANK YOU!
U r TRUELY incredible at this. I been in to this bout a yr now I'm getting great at it. Have u ever seen or used the spray tyi dye??? It's awesome but I will stick with original.
Thank you so much and I have. If you mean HWI I actually have a whole playlist full of HWI videos. Even the one I uploaded yesterday. I love it for the instant gratification. 1 hour as opposed to 24 is hard to beat 😊💜
I love ur work. Hey thanks for getting back w.me. I'm trying to make my stuff more dramatic like URS. Like get lost in the shirt. I like space looking stuff. for now just doing the usual starburst, bullseye an 🪗 look. Couldn't spell that. Haha. I want to purchase ur product an use ur teaching for me. Ur product looks deep an dark. Not all wimpy like sum. I will take a few picts of my shirts an also I found this material that is very kewl to work with.. it's a flour sac thingie. Put flour in it an it shifts it I guess. Do t care but hey it works great. May I send a few picts to u ?
I came across your videos on instagram and love your content and all your artwork is amazing!!! I have one question.. why do you use kite string and fishing line and then the twine? Is there a reason for the different thickness’s?
Thank you so much! So the kite string is just to hold the folded fabric in place. The fishing line works better for getting difficult ties such as the honeycomb more precise and the sinew is to create some separation between the lines to help prevent bleeding of the colors. I hope this helps😊💜
Oh my God! Another freaking amazing shirt and the colors are fantastic! I hope that you know how amazingly talented you are! Because you are! I do have a question about the fishing line and why you use it if that is what it is on the puller that has multicolored Line? But anyway thank you so very much for sharing all of your incredible talent with us and I hope you have a fantastic holiday weekend. You and your family please be safe!❤️Riah your one in a million!
Thank you so much Tim! You always leave the best comments! Yes that’s fishing line…it’s definitely thinner than sinew and it actually seems to help get those crisp lines but smaller ones than the sinew makes and it also helps with the colors not bleeding together too ☺️💚
Could you use beading thread? I'm very inspired by your beautiful creation and the the thought of beading thread crossed my mind to use in lieu of fishing line.
What kind of string was the third one you used between the sinew? Was it a different type of sinew or waxed Thread? I really like this one & want to learn bad. But if you don't use the right stuff it won't come out even close. You rock Btw!
How do you get yours to stay so vibrant? Mine ended up looking washed out. It still looks nice. But I REALLY wanted mine to be vibrant and true black like yours.
I use Synthrapol textile detergent to wash mine after rinsing and I also apply a lot of dye to ensure proper saturation. Also are you using Dharma Trading Company dyes?
Okay I've come to conclusion after I dying six or seven shirts you guys are using professional tie dies because this Walmart stuff isn't coming out the same they're turning out better each every time but my colors aren't coming out this brilliant and the first couple they were so dull and I couldn't figure it out well after I read the instructions and it said wars and then they became vibrant I was like woohoo it's crazy how we learn at different phases in our life LOL
That’s awesome! Yes I use Dharma Trading company’s fiber reactive procion dye powders. Some kits are pretty good but they don’t compare to the professional stuff in terms of vibrancy 😊💚
Question? When you are tying up the 1st point on the front with sinew, what exactly were u doing with the second sinew, or was that kite or fishing line?
I follow these step by step, and yet, my stuff never comes out the same. What am I doing wrong? Is there a way you could do a video of what not to do or if this happens fo this to get it to come out right type of video? If you did that would be amazing of you and would greatly appreciate it. I love all your work and you inspire me to keep trying to get this art form right.
There are honestly lots of different reasons you may be having an issue. I won’t be able to make that kind of video any time soon just with my busy schedule and whatnot but try different things. Try dyeing it dry vs wet, try looking for a Chem water recipe on some Facebook groups, try adding more dye or thickening it. Like I said there’s a lot of things that could be happening.
I didn’t for this shirt or any of my previous dye art t shirts because I didn’t have it at the time. I actually just got some but I haven’t opened it yet to play around with ratios. Others have told me that one drop per 8oz of dye mixture works well though so I think I’ll start there. I hope this helps😊
Olá. Tudo bem?
I love your work, but I wish you’d slow it down and explain stuff. I’ve only been dyeing for a few months and I’d love to do some awesome stuff like this but more guidance would be great. Thanks for the videos. Keep up the good work.
Thank you! I understand that. I do work a full time job besides this one and I’m a full time mom so it would take quite a bit of quiet time to do a video for these. My 4 year old is not very quiet lol. I definitely will try to make one at some point ☺️❤️
Thank you so much! This shirt takes hours to tie and dye but you can slow the video down by clicking in the top right hand corner of the video in video settings ☺️💙
Awesome! May I suggest doing a Zoom class with your followers which includes ME! I love your work!

Besides my turtle that you made me this is my favorite. The colors look like a black light poster from the 70's. Frickin awesome.
Haha thank you so much! It almost reminds me of those black velvet posters you can color in lol. ☺️💚
Stunningly beautiful, Riah. I would like to see a few close-ups of the end results. So cool. Thanks for sharing.
