This is such a unique song, it's one that doesn't put you in a bad or good mood, like some drifted dream song. I don't know whether to be afraid or happy or sad.. either way its beautiful.

@@GuilleFunes_ Not a hard and fast rule, though. Some of the songs are mostly English with some gibberish or foreign language thrown in. Early on, more often the opposite was true. "Heaven or Las Vegas" was largely English lyrics, however.
❤️Always loved The Twins and been a fan of Elizabeth Fraser. She’s incredibly talented! I love this song! It’s so beautiful and one of the loveliest songs I’ve heard. Her voice along with the music and lyrics just intertwine perfectly! and hits me hard on a deeper level. I really Love the hauntingly melancholic sound it has and love the piano tune which kind of reminds me of this old Agnes Obel song I like. This song is so dreamy and emotional at the same time. An ethereal masterpiece of pure beauty! I’m still enjoying their music in 2023💖✨😍
This is so beautiful, it makes me weep -- in a good way of course. I know divinity exists when I hear it.. I also love pretending that she's singing my name, elyse. :)
The first time I heard this song, was in the lovely bones by Peter Jackson. It really fits in with the book and movie, and makes it even more emotional. The singing is beautiful and it makes me weep in a good way.
For me it was in the actual album I bought so many years ago, wow I still remember it... those times are long gone sadly we just live in a different world now.
Spectacular Shum! I'm really impressed with this one. You got the mood of this song just right. Very watchable and full of interesting atmospherics and abstract imagery. Thanks so much for doing one of my all time favorite songs. You're a genius.
sounds like most decent 80's bands - would enjoy the commercial a sides but the b - sides were always a whole lot more fun and a bit more experimental. Prob why I dont buy as much music today is because not many artists are inventive enough not to make entire albums sound like one long song
Oh, let me add that my cats never reacted well to "Alice". I think the high notes remind them of their dear lost mother, or something. They get all startled, and spooked, checking every corner. Yet, by now, they've gotten quite used to the screeching and growling of Nina Hagen and Ms. Galas!
You do the best Cocteau Twins uploads here, shum65 and for them I am very greatful because I've loved them from the very first hearing of Lullabies way back in the '80s. I've accepted and enjoyed their changes too, from the raw and raucous Lullabies and Garlands right through their transitions in later work to this very day. Thank you, friend person of excellence.
You know Shum, I didn't know JP had died - bloody hell - anyway, alternative to the last, he died in Peru! A true guru of music, and discoverer of all things new..........before we had the internet! The passing of an era..........and now I feel old.........
Hey Shum, you should check the movie again, very nice "coming of age" story, as you know, set in Tuscany, so the wine accompniament is fundamental! You're clearly a major guru of the Cocteaus - I first heard them in '83 at uni, and that Christmas was all Cocteaus and The Smiths in John Peels festive 50! They've been a part of my life ever since, for those special moments of chill and contemplation. Happy New New Year to you too mate!
@shum65 frazier was in my country some years ago.. i hope to see them singing soon when i go to europe.. i love amelia too,it reminds me of my epoques of new wave..
Oh no, shum. The "static" I referred to was from multiple external sources - things just getting me wound up - then the neurons or whatever start bouncing off one another, creating friction and heat. I may need an increase in my meds! Anyway, late last night, I was much more mellow, and in a more receptive mood to appreciate your latest vid, which upon viewing helped me get still more mellow - without popping an extra pill.
Do you remember the comment you posted? The one where you said "When I think of this song...I imagine an endless river with a light violet sky and the moon almost halfway into the sky =]" ???
Well, you see, my friend is writing her second book and she while she's writing it she wanted to listen to this song. And she liked what you said and so she asked me to ask you to see if you'd let her use it. She liked what you said. Really. =)
I had to wait to get into the right frame of mind, to watch your latest, shum. Now that the static is mostly gone from my brain, and I'm relaxing after a couple Mexican beers, with a wonderfully cool autumn breeze blowing in, I must say I especially enjoyed this. Among your best, IMHO. Who is the veiled woman? Also, I like the very quick glimpses of Liz popping up from time to time. Any quicker and they'd almost be subliminal.
I think the song is related with some painful magic... about losing somebody, but in a fairy-tale way. "Deceived me, you deceived me, erase it I will not". But as most of these kind of songs, the meaning is only owned by the author. The lyrics are also weird... "When I lost him, ache. Sudden shake of pale. My my true love... Nicholo... These days are smoking.... though he won't see.... ..........Deceived me..."
My unscientific observation has been that my cats enjoy the Twins, especially Victorialand, & some of the B-sides from M & K. It's only Alice that has bits that seem to generate a weird reaction. I'm only guessing it's about their Mom, Squeaky Frommela, who had a very high-pitched meow. She was an alley cat who 2X gave birth in front of the Blessed Mother statue on my patio before I could get her spayed & adopted. I felt guilty, but could only afford to keep her first litter of 3 cats.
wow. heard this in "The Lovely Bones" trailer. I'm one of those people that has to find the music stuck in their head, and this is absolutely one of the most hauntingly beautiful things I've ever heard... But what is she saying?
The song isn't able to buy anywhere for download. As CD it's the same. But now, I'm about to get a CD Album where "Alice" is inside. Don't know, if the song already has a copyright. Otherwise I could send it to you, if I've got him.

Yeah. And thier's a part where the main character is with the enemy (Just think Romeo and Juielt!) and they have a nice night together and she wanted to use this song and what you said.

This is the twins at its best, and this is form the film the Lovely Bones. A brilliant Film.
i believe it was also used in the 90s film stealing beauty also -so the song is much older than Lovely Bones
@@divinuminfernum Yes, oriiginaly song wrote for movie Stealing Beauty 1996. great soungtrack, much better that Lovely Bones
lovely bones?.
this song is much older..
i had heard it for first time in my new wave epoques..
its so lovely..
Also in Bertolucci's Stealing Beauty, with Liv Tyler crying alone in the night
A truly magnificent piece of music. The Cocteau Twins never cease to amaze me. Her voice is amazing, almost ethereal-like.

I really want to see
(pushing me) Look she fell
(with you) Right there on the floor

False. Elizabeth Fraser does not sing in any recognisable language, sometimes mixe words, but not like the lyrics above
