    Hey, can you do a video comparing Fujifilm xt3 with BMPCC 4K?

    • @digwillhachi
      @digwillhachi 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      why do you want to compare? the BMPCC is obviously way better for video. It just comes down to what your needs are and what you shoot and your budget etc. Both are amazing cameras for what they offer.

    • @raredreamfootage
      @raredreamfootage 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@digwillhachiTo see how close the X-T3 internal 10-bit is. Sometimes it's about getting the image close. Let's say the X-T3 is 80% of the BMPCC4K, then that is a good compromise to have a smaller, lighter camera with autofocus.

    • @digwillhachi
      @digwillhachi 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@raredreamfootage The 10bit X-T3 image is amazing and will be good enough for anything you need. The BMPCC offers pro res and BRAW which you can push further in post but you are giving up auto focus and will need to spend more money on things like external SSD, cage + screen, batterys etc. Its depends on what you need and what best suits your situation. I have a BMPCC 4K and Nikon D850. I actually use the D850 70% of the time just because having a camera + video in one is easier to carry. Even the 8bit video on the D850 is really nice. When i want amazing video i will take the BMPCC 4k but i could just as easily keep using the 8bit D850. The BMPCC isnt going to take nice photos so if you want an all in one with auto focus then the Fuji is the best choice. I had the XT-2 and loved that camera. I can only imagine how great the XT-3 is.

    Great review! I just received the camera and from what I can see it is fantastic. I have been shooting on a A7Sii since it has been released which has been amazing. The Blackmagic RAW from a very shot glance is amazing. When using this camera it is not a run and gun, it is a camera that you need to plan your production and you will get amazing results. • @TomAntos
      @TomAntos  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Dummy battery needs the correct voltage coming in or it will get damaged. So that's why I can use the sony NPF style batteries with the dummy battery because those output 8.4volts. The V-Mount battery outputs 12volts which is too much for the dummy battery but it's fine for the AC port on the side of the camera.

    Hey, I need some advice. I'm probably gonna be able to afford BMPCC4K, metabones and some gear by the end of the month. I'm just gonna need the fundemental bare minimum of the gear for now, and from what I understand it is:
    - Metabones (idk to choose XL or Ultra though)
    - V mount battery (what exatly do I need to make it work and what batteries?)
    - SSD Card, probably Samsung T5
    I already have some gear to my Canon SL2 (200D), and I'm gonna use my Canon 50mm and shoulder rig for example to the BMPCC4K in the beginning, then probably buy Sigma lenses and cage down the line. Would appreciate some advice from someone with knowledge! I have very little free time to research

    Hi Tom Antos. I thought you said it was not a good idea powering the monitor and camera with thesame battery in a previous video you made. Is this particular brand of battery safe. Have you had any issues with it. You mentioned you burned two of your Feelword monitor in a previous video you made while trying to power the monitor and camera with thesame battery

    • @TomAntos
      @TomAntos  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it's not safe if you use the power out port on the monitors. That's why this batter is different because it allows me to attach it to the monitor and power the monitor that way while I can directly connect a cable from the battery to the camera instead of going through the monitor power out port which could not handle the voltage and ended up burning.

    How useable is the 12-35 with a follow focus? Would it be a useable lens for a feature film?

    • @TomAntos
      @TomAntos  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      not usable at all for follow focus since it's a focus by wire lens so it will never go back to the same spot. For more hands on manual focusing work and specially when using a follow focus I just put on the camera cine manual lenses like the Rokinons or Xeen

    Hi Tom. Thank You for this video. We are a small music studio that would like to expand into video too. Originally we were looking at the Ursa Mini 4.6k but now after seeing Your videos it seems the Pocket 4k would be just as good? We’d be recording videoclips and films also. Lastly, You mentioned You didn’t like the Metabones Speedbooster 0.71 on this camera. Trying to get the Super 35 image wouldn’t this adapter be necessary? Or can this type of picture be accomplished even with native 4/3 lenses without the need of the speedbooster? Thank You Tom for all the help and videos.

      Yes it sucks but those batteries were always low in stock and I myself had to wait after I initially bought just one to test out and then decided to get more. How soon they will have more in stock I don't know. Once they do I will definitely buy more.

      @@TomAntos Funnily enough they seemed to get stock literally an hour or so later. As for the whole Viltrox vs Metabones thing. I have seen some contradictory tests using the VIltrox and these are people using it for photo shooting at way higher resolution than 4K. Personally I have been happy with the VIltrox .7 version on GH5s. Frankly I think the camera is almost too sharp. Look at the new batch of Sumire lenses from Canon. Suspect these will create a clean look but not so sharp that it looks far too video like.

    What rig would you suggest for ssd media?

    • @TomAntos
      @TomAntos  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      SmallRig has a great and cheap little SSD attachment. Plus you can get their side handle that also allows that.

    • @spetsovich
      @spetsovich 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I found Lanparte makes a Samsung T5 holder similar to SmallRig, and you can mount it anywhere. Whereas SmallRig ssd holder can only be mounted in one spot on the smallrig cage.

    Amazing tutorial! I do still have a couple of questions though: if I plan on recording in Blackmagic's raw 8:1 codec at like 55 Mbps will it even be worth it to do so or am I better off recording in ProRes LT which has a similar bitrate of 51 Mbps? I'm trying to keep file sizes to a minimum without compromising too much of the image quality.

    • @PatientZeroBalisong

      unless you plan on doing intensive color grading and ISO changes you should be fine in prores - at least in my experience. I always prefer shooting braw just because I know one way or another I can correct mistakes and mishaps.

    Hey Tom! Great video, I have a quick question over the Watson Pro. This is a battery with 14.8v, if you connect this directly to the BMPCC (D-tap - Weipu) will it burn? Is there a DC connection on the Watson Pro battery and do you need a converter to minimize the volt to max. 7,4?

    • @TomAntos
      @TomAntos  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I connect the vmount batteries to the AC port on the camera only. To the dummy battery i only connect the smaller npf style battery that's on the monitor. Otherwise the vmount would damage the dummy battery.

    • @veraklein89
      @veraklein89 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TomAntos Thanks for the quick response!:) Yes I saw in the video that you connect the dummy just only to the npf battery and not to the bigger v mount battery.
      Do you mean the with AC port the 12v port on the Black Magic? The vmount battery is 14,8v if you directly connect it the Black magic (12volt port) it will burn right? Because it got a max of 12v? Or is this possible? Can you tell me which cable you use to connect the vmount to the Black Magic?

    • @TomAntos
      @TomAntos  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@veraklein89 yes the ac port on the camera. It won't burn it. I made my own cable which is easy and I show it how in my battery solution for bmpcc4k video.

    in regard to the speed booster . 64x.... does the aspect ratio change? I ask because I would be using an anamorphic adapter with a 1.33x stretch and I don't want to be too far off from a CinemaScope (2.35) ratio. thanks tom.

    • @TomAntos
      @TomAntos  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      No the aspect ratio is decided only by the camera and its sensor. The pocket 4k doesn't have a true anamorphic mode so you will end up with a lot wider field of view which means on many anamorphic lenses you will see the edges of the lens on the sides

    Hi Tom, another good video. Thanks for all of the info. I found most useful the section about the battery for monitor w/linking option to power BMPCC as well. However, the link provided doesn't seem to steer you to the right product on Amazon (didn't see the connector to tie-in with dummy battery system for camera). If possible can you link the video that you did earlier about the dummy battery plate here? By the way, the link to ebay says the battery is sold out. In any case I'll have to see if the battery you showed will even work with my Small HD monitor. I have been enjoying the BMPCC 4K but the battery issue is a genuine pain in the %#$. The only thing in the video that I didn't agree with is your assertion about the Viltrox adapter. I own the .71 and find it a great product that does not (at least to my eye) diminish the visual quality in any way. I agree that there may be some plusses with the Metabones option but as you know the cost is dramatically higher. Appreciate all that you do.
