despite the lukewarm conclusion you reached I feel like I need to play this game because yt recommended a video from a random small content creator that I've never viewed before. It looks like it could be fun if you don't focus on 100%, besides I do like monkey ball and liquid metals so it seems like a match for me
I really enjoy this game but some of the bonus levels are INFURIATING lol, I spent a ridiculous amount of time on stream trying to clear Bio Lab Stage 17
My recommended showed me this video after this game has been sitting my eBay list for a while. Thanks for the overview of the game, it's very appreciated!
I played the PSP version of this as a kid and i had a decent amount of fun with it, along with the archer maclean version. I never thought about the super monleyball comparisons until you had brought it up, lol
Wow, haven’t seen this game in a good while. I used to play this a lot when I was a kid and I think I would’ve shared some of the same complaints you shared. I never got very far tbf (only reached the first three or so areas), I’d just mess around in the playground/sandbox mode for a while then move on. Even though it was pretty difficult, the game had a very fun and playful feel that I always came back to. Also, the soundtrack is pretty underrated as well.
I played this as a child and despite never making it too far i loved it. I agree with a lot of the issues in this game, as a matter oif fact i can personally attest to many many times when splitting apart either meant hitting that sweet spot or suffering
I’ve never played Revolution, but the two Mercury games for PSP were some of my absolute favorites. I saw it in a demo magazine once and had to beg my mom to find me a copy lol
I played this game a decent amount as a kid! It was one of my favourites of its type. We were poor, so our wii was hacked, and so I found the game only because it was on the hard drive. I don't remember seeing anything else about the game and discovered it purely through chance.
I believe it was Mercury HG that ended Mercury series. It was the first game I discover and compared to previous entry it was like a clash! I remember some player getting frustrated in one level and show compilation of his failure.
While I wholeheartedly agree with the camera complaints, I feel like the rest is kinda missing the point. Mercury games are meant to be hard imo. Like, "maddening test of skill" hard. Unlocking the last world in the PSP version was torture, and that's kinda the point. i suppose you might've felt a little jarred that this cartoony game is thiq grueling... but is this really bringing light on "why it flopped" ?
I like to toy with the idea of what this game would be like if it had an editor and a competitive ranking system… One thing that was not covered in this video is how the difficulty balancing for each level is complete whack. For example, the bonus levels for the first 4 labs are all a step up from the rest of the levels in their respective labs. But when you get to the bonus levels for labs after than (mainly the Geo lab and Atom lab) the bonus levels are easier and less challenging to get 100 percent mercury on than most of the other levels in their respective labs?? I have no idea what the bonus levels are like for the rest of the labs because I haven't unlocked them yet :P
i think this failed because it shouldve been called mercury meatball, mmmm meatball
I hadn't heard of this game but I see metaballs and metaballs are cool
I swear i remember playing a ps3 version of this
edit: It was called Mercury HG
How was your experience with that game? I never wound up playing it myself unfortunately

this video is extremely well made! i love videos about niche video games and this is perfect for that :)

In that sense, I could see this having been a PS2 title alongside a Wii version.
I remember playing this, and loving it!

I had no idea this even was a failure, I just remember it having a lot of hype. I found it fun, but it didn’t really hold my attention for long.
really enjoyed Mercury Meltdown Remix on the ps2. I think the analog stick controls would make both the camera and movement much, much easier.
I liked the video, reminds me a lot of old school video game content like AVGN but without the swearing lol

Nice video! Now i wanna hunt this game down and try it lol

I remember getting this game as a kid, and regretting not getting Super Mario Galaxy instead

Never touched a Nintendo game but I remember playing this somewhere... maybe psp..
To be fair, though, if you had gotten a reward for getting 100% in this game, would you have even bothered to use it?
lol probably not
very cool
>not SSX Tricky
weird View Next suggestion TH-cam, but I'll allow it
13 minutes and 9 seconds of skill issue
Good video though, game looks fun
