Markus wins all TH-cam photo/video channels in about 25 seconds between 0:38 and 1:03 with the explanation of the woman's illuminated face. This is great, and I'm hardly a minute into it!
You're my favorite photography channel! You don't talk down to beginners. You don't judge people who can't afford the newest cameras and show us how to get the results we want. Without breaking the bank. I am still using my lumix DMC-GH3 2011 12 megipixel micro 4/3 camera. I just got an Olympus 40- 150 lens for it . Thanks for the encouragement and support in just wanting to take a picture or to recreate something cool someone else did. ( If someone walks up to me one more time saying ? Why don't you just use a phone! I'm going to lose it.😂 Anyway, thank you. You help make photography fun.
I love how upbeat Marcus is.I hope he gets lots of positivity back in his life! I splurged on an Aputure spotlight for my 300D MKII and I love the result of using the blades and iris to cut the light!
This was the PERFECT short video not only explaining the effects of "controlled" lighting on background objects, but then, as only Markus can, he shows some really cool options to add to your lighting kits. I LOVE this guy!
honestly your channel is one of the most underrated channel here on youtube where beginner and amateur content creators can find answers for questions they did not know they should ask about how to improve their videography! Thank you for making these videos!
Yes Inkee is the best because is small, portable and great battery. Iwork with 3 Inkee 60 as wedding photographer and videographer. My only problem with Inkee is aplication and remot, is work good only at 3 m. :(
@@HBDMedia by the way, i just found really simillar product by GVM company, it calls GVM PD60b. @marcuspix could you review this one and compare with Inkee?
@@loihpatliI usually use spotlights, but I plan to use small 55 cm softboxes with Bowens mount where possible, as long as they don’t look too unsightly

Fabulous reviews - love love love the concise, no added frazzle-fancy dumb-everybody-does-the-same-editing trend with irritating background noises, canned soap-opera stupid-faces- clips, … … plus, you provide actually usable real-life info - great attitude and great work ! Thanks muchly, Markus - greets from across the globe, Vancouver Island -
Omg that Wellmaking with Gobos I have been debating on something like that for a while.. Very cool .. I use strobes and have been wanting to add in fake window light and shapes into my photos.. Awesome .
Markus, thanks so much for sharing things like this that almost no one (I actually don't know of anyone) else talks about. You've helped me become a much better filmmaker, and photographer. Thank you. God bless you, brother!
I wish U Markus find joy in making all these videos. Even I m not in the photography nor video shooting field I enjoy every bit of your insights, creativity n experiences. Thx 4 your generosity n +ve vibe. 🌈
compliments for this video. when I work with spots I only use dedolight. I also have parallel beam with reflectors. the price for these devices is very expensive, but it is worth it
Fantastic episode. I know this is not about cinema style shooting but shaping lights using flags is where it becomes really artistic:) You need bigger lights and of course a bigger crew.
Markus, now that you've gone over spotlights, I would love to hear your thoughts on dedolights lightstream system and how someone on a budget could copy that concept on the cheap. I think godox makes something similar, too - but they're both still a lot of money. But I like how those systems split and bounce one light source with reflectors so that you can light from multiple angles instead of using multiple lights.
My suggestion would be to experiment with inexpensive acrylic mirrors. The TH-cam channel DSLR video shooter as a video about this, just search for "acrylic mirrors photography" and you should this and several other tutorial vids. My own idea would be to use acrylic mirrors as a cheap alternative to lightbridge - an expensive, professional system, in which a mirror is mounted in the center of a curved reflector. I have an old beauty dish I can rig up with an acrylic mirror stuck to the central plate... Hopefully it'll work much the same way as the lightbridge, at a fraction of the cost!
Im a new subscriber and i loveeeee your videos. Your the only tech youtuber i trust. Thank you. Your passion for cameras and art makes me want to be a better artist.
Love the inexpensive lights you review, but plz give more cons! Love the spot demo you can see green/magenta, fringing etc., but budget gear isn’t all amazing. Knowing which are worst or best is MUCH more valuable than demoing that they can all simply be used. Just a suggestion, absolutely love your channel! Thanks for all the 411 and inspo, HGD!
Hi Markus. Love it. Thanks for doing the research on this. A lot to reflect on and a lot that aren't much good (colour, power or hard edge etc). I didn't see the Amaran (Apurture) spot adapter for Amaran 200Xs units which is what I'm currently using. I had thought about pairing with an Amaran 300C. I like Amaran/Apurture because they all are controlled via their Sidus Link app. But not as light and portable as some of cheaper options you found.
Praying you do a video on strobes like these but RGB. Also ai thinks rotolight has the best one even over the Amaran 300c RGB. Wish I knew which was the best out there at the best price.
Thank you for jumping/hoping/skipping on to the spotlight video side of production filming! I don't have any spotlight setups so this was awesome learning for a newbie. I have been looking at the Dedolight Lightstream Reflection system. Do you think it is a cost saving because you're only are using one "I know" expensive light. Is it really going to give you a nice lighted look using reflections bouncing around. If you have any insight that could assist in buying into this style of indoor bouncing studio lighting.
What you recommend, LED or conventional lighting output? What is the best bang for the buck for an armature pro wannabe photographer? What about lighting for Iphone photography? (Pro Max 15 with RAW)? Wicked video as always.
Thanks for another great video Markus. Wanted to chime in and speak highly of Aputure's LX 60x fixture. It's a focusable bicolor hard light that takes NPF/Dtap. I'm relatively new to freelancing but have found it to be a highly effective fixture on my shoots. Anybody looking for a focusable hard light (if you don't have one you should) would do well to check it out.
Hey Markus, I'm looking for a headset microphone that I can plug into my phone.. I have been doing Livestreams on the XApp (Twitter) showing my creative process /mind. But I'm not a tech wizard and microphones are pissing me off lately .. lol I like the wired kind more than wireless.. Do you have a suggestion for me? Do you have a video already composed that I should watch ? You are awesome btw 😊
Following your post, I bought 3 Inkee 60 units to use with my photo and video team at weddings. The lights are great, they have a high-capacity battery, and I also bought a Fresnel lens from Inkee, which we sometimes use during the bridal preparations and photo sessions. At the reception, I use all three to light up the venue. 1. Can you recommend a portable gobo projector that is small, lightweight, and has as wide a projection angle as possible? I’d like to use it during the bridal preparations. 2. I have a problem with the Inkee 60. Their control app has a very short Bluetooth range, about 3 meters. I also bought their remote, and although it says it works on 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, the range is still just as short. I can’t control all three lights at the reception. Additionally, the lights sometimes go into standby mode. How can I get them out of standby?
what bulb mount are you using for the restaurant bulbs? I ebayed a pair of the bulbs... think it could make for a decent small catch light! Just diy'd a clamp on Lowes. Hope they're dimmable. Thanks
An RGB strobe? They don't make RGB strobes. Just use a gel. And why a 400? a 600 BL is the same price, size and weight but more powerful. th-cam.com/video/o8bdbLW2gAs/w-d-xo.html If you mean 400 watt video light, then get a Zhiyun 300 th-cam.com/video/5DDiUprng4c/w-d-xo.html
They work great but are so damn heavy and have fan noise. When I traveled with them, they weighed a TON. Tech has come a long way since then. A Zhiyun X100 is brighter, smaller and a lot lighter, but I hate the battery situation with those. Not to worry, Light and Motion (maker of Stellas) haven't been idle. Stay tuned!
