It was my honor and privilege to play drums and percussion for Chita and Liza in "The Rink" Broadway pit, for the original cast album, and for this performance at Radio City...good times...fond memories...Neil Capolongo
That's amazing to hear! If you're okay with me asking, could you please share what the entire orchestra was like(How many Violins, Cellos, Reeds, Brass, Percussion, etc.)? I'm very obsessed with Broadway Orchestrations, and I want to learn the arrangements of every single one so I can do the orchestrations for my own compositions someday!
Liza and Chita had first worked together when Liza subbed for Gwen Verdon in "Chicago"; they enjoyed working together so much that when the opportunity of reuniting for "The Rink" came along, it was irresistible.
I was fortunate enough to see The Rink on Broadway in 1984. After the show, I hung out at the stage door and watched Liza Minelli exit. I was too starstruck to ask her for her autograph! 😄
I remember listening to this as a young girl I think I was probably 10 years old. I'm in my early thirties and I still love it to this day... Such a classic musical and love this take. ❤️ Definitely gets my soul dancing... Thanks for uploading 💖💖💖
... more fond memories: like when I actually got lost back stage trying to find the orchestra pit to play drums for this performance at Radio City! - exactly like the scene in "This Is Spinal Tap!" What a pleasure it was playing for Chita and Liza: two great ladies!
Not many people know, but Liza was the first replacement Roxie after Gwen Verdon. And Chita of course was the original Velma. Imagine if Velma and Roxie were mother and daughter, but still fighting each other just as fiercely.
Dos Grandes Chita Rivera y Liza Minelli, en una melodia de THE RINK, aqui madre e hija en la ficcion, LA MANZANA NO CAE MUY LEJOS DEL ARBOL, en una parte muy teatral las coincidencias,
So much fun, and great retro days showing how we've forgotten how talented Liza was as a vocalist actress other than being pigeon holed for New York New York. When she passes, her memorial will hopefully include her talents other than the cliches build around her. That voice, and the interpretation and vocal acting was incredible and completely overlooked now.
Wow I never knew 'The Rink' was videotaped professionally? Where can I get a decent copy from? Was the whole show filmed? Or just certain numbers such as this one?
@amazinggarrett1 One of the mistakes that viewers of You Tube often make is they don't take the venue into consideration, nor from where the clip was shot. Yes, they have a lot of make up...because RADIO CITY has over 6000 seats! This musical was dreary despite their performances. The score was very mediocre.
@@davidfriscic3009 this is true I was also young and stupid when I commented that. It was before I appreciated making a time period actually look like a time period rather than just pretty 😂🤣😂

How many shows did Liza miss?

So what do you think would have happened if it was Judy and Liza?
I saw this show with these grand dames ... now that is TALENT!
Great entertainers ... they don't make them like that anymore.

REST IN PEACE CHITA ❤️🎼
Wow! thank you so much for posting! I've been trying to find vids for this show forever! What a gem!
I missed this show, wish I saw it.
The night I met Liza was backstage at "The Rink" my first jaunt to Manhattan at 18
imagine if judy garland (Liza's reall mother) was alive to this with Liza. it would have been wonderful.
Two of my idols

The logo is a silhouette of both Liza's and Chita's faces. If the implication is that it's Judy's, it's not.
Love this!!!!

maravillosas las dos
Adorable! I love Liza.
*& you HATE Chita Rivera*
@faceleg24601 i just checked... her father was puerto rican, her mother was irish and italian, so yes we were both right.
LOOK AGAIN AT THE LOGO IT IS BOTH OF THEIR PROFILES CHITA IN WHITE LIZA IN RED!
I even got to walk on the stage & sing

@Joshua Swain Too kind!
🕊🕊
@BroadwayGuy25 I was lucky enough to see that show !
This was a number from the broadway show, THE RINK, which they both starred in. Has nothing to do with Judy Garland. She was long dead by then!
@andreaburnett Liza's mother is JUDY GARLAND! the legend!
Is that Paul Gemingani in the audience at 0:18

Front row when they reached out I wanted to reach back not here in theater
@thaedragoah true that, but at least chita and liza are both italian.
Do we know what this performance was for? Or the date? Why are they at Radio City Music Hall? Was it a special concert?
The Tony Awards
@faceleg24601 are you sure, i thought for certain she was italian
where do they show the logo for the show?
*KIKa Diva is a TroLL!!!*
Liza ent into rehab during this period, Then, Stockard Channing took over the role. Liza and Chita were fabulous together!
I saw this show about a week before she entered rehab. It was ok, but not anything close to my favorites.
@sweeney60 Um.......Chita is Puerto Rican. Duh.

This is the favorite score of Kander and Ebb
im sorry this was a cute song and all, i just can not get past the monstrosity that is Liza's hair! wow she looks terrible!
She's supposed to -- she's a hippie in the role
