I felt lonely, and within the first two phrases, your beautiful expression of this raga has me smiling, and not feeling quite so alone. Thank you, Ragini Shankar 💙
She plays it so effortlessly that too with such a nice pleasant smile and wins over the audience right away. Most artists close their eyes and are a bundle of concentration on the other hand Ragini appears like going in park for a walk careless but to produce such intricate nuances her brain must be working furiously sending signals to her hand getting constant feedback from he ears and eyes ... just amazing how much a real training can garnish ... wow clap clap calp

Dear Ragini Really outstanding performance. It reminds me of a 50 years' old performance by your grandmother. Prof. N Rajam Ji, at an All India Radio - Lucknow recording concert in 1967 when I first heard Dr Rajam playing. Her daughter, Sangeeta Shankar, was sitting on the stage with her.
Beautiful Ragini Shankar singing the beautiful Raga Bihag with her beautiful Violin... superb... hats off.. thank you Ragini and God bless... really loved the concert...
Dear Ragini Shankar, I congratulate on your splendid performance that too on Raga Bihag, a difficult one infact, but so effortlessly you managed with so masterly talent.I wish you all the success .

Very Dear Swapan Chaudhary Nemasta. So nicely played I have been listening to violin programs since few years and have always loved to all what you play . Wish you all the best . Jasi Magon
Ragini Shankar you have flawlessly played violin. Your grand maternal mother is the source of inspiration for you, your sister and your mother. After Sarangi this string instrument is my favourite instrument.
Marvelous, how sweet, melodious violin vadan by the musician Ragini Shankar. Nowadays, its a necessity to flow such type of divine music from one hand to another. Wish you all the best for future.
Hi Ragini ji your fingerings is just amazing I really enjoyed your video clip. Last time I saw you in Dharwad Kalabhavan hall it was a great performance by you and your family. I'm also a violin student I'm studying violin since 8 years with B.S. Math Guruji in Dharwad.
It’s still a percussion instrument. Lol. A person saying “drum” isn’t necessarily referring to the western equivalent, like a drummer in a rock band. A bongo is a drum, a bodhrán from Ireland is a drum, a mridangam is a drum, and so is the tabla, all percussion instruments. The difference with tabla and most Indian percussion is that they’re tuneable to match the melody instrument and the tanpura (the droning) in the background… so, a drum is not necessarily referring to the western “drum set” or “drum kit” we see so often in popular music, and many other genres.
I was spellbound by Ragini's beautiful rendition of raga Bihag on the violin. Her alap, tans, gamakas, and jhala are full of variety, intricacies and beauty. She shows rare maturity and perfection at young age. I would have liked to see more close-ups of her fingers.
Why wait? Two minutes in, it doesn't look too hard if you can control a violin. Modulation is a little different from western styles, obviously. Just make the notes musical.
I love that she's smiling along the whole songs. it's a unique feature when a musician smiles and plays an instrument..Are there different version of this same raga? Just wondering..
Hi Daniel- there are an infinite number of compositions in a certain raga- a raga is much like a scale or a mode in Western Classical Music- however the description of a raag has certain complexities and restrictions to it that make it different and are necessary to play to bring out its essence.
An artist smile represent many things. It may be confidence inside them that they are playing correctly. A smile is to create pleasant atmosphere around so co-artists can also perform well with concentration. A smile is the happiness of the soul while playing raga. Only indian classical music can give this bliss and smiles. Its a kind of meditation for music lovers to play and to listen.
Kewl. This proves the versatility of violin. Wanna learn this. The Indians and the Hindus have a very beautiful culture. The Indian violin school is very intriguing. Were they improvising the whole time? If so, wow.
in the first piece, the part she played from 2:39 to 2:45 is the fixed composition. the rest is improvised. in the second piece there is 16x4 beats duration worth of composition, the rest is improvised. the fixed compositions are repeated after some improvisation to establish familiarity.
