Hi everyone. Hope you enjoy this silly video. What's interesting to me is how different my sons are on the spectrum when it relates to certain sensory input. Connor hates the smell of nail polish remover and rubber cement. Ian likes the smell. Of course, there are those who are not on the spectrum who like/dislike certain foods, smells, textures, etc. What things do you 'fear'? I can't stand it when people rub their hands against rough carpet...I have no idea why, lol. Anyways, if you are celebrating Halloween this year we hope it's safe and fun for you!
It’s so perfect🤣 I can’t stand having shirts or necklaces or anything too close to my neck, feels like I’m choking I had a big thing about tags too when I was little (and somewhat now), but mostly with any tags on my stuffed animals
I'm excited for Halloween. Also, keep in mind, and I'm sure you already know and are aware, but the trick or treater that comes at your door that appears to be "too old" might be because cognitively they are not the age they appear to be 💙🎃 I say to those who are opposed "Just give em the darn candy, Karen!"
These boys have improved so much! This is literally high functioning to me. They are ACTING I'm just so happy to see the improvement. Also off topic but if that's your house then maaaaan TH-cam is paying well!
They are doing so much better and thank you. So as far as TH-cam goes they pay us beans (about a quarter of what I made at my old job), the vast majority of our kitchen remodel in our condo was paid by my previous employment 😉
"Idk, it's in the script." "...NOPE!" Lol! I also literally LOL'ed at SEVERAL different moments in this video. Your kids are so awesome & I relate to so many of these 'autism fears' (my son & I both have it). Thank you guys for doing what you do, and for making these videos! Keep up the great work!
I finally found this channel after years! I used to watch back when I was younger cause I had a brother with autism and wanted to learn more about what that meant. So glad to see you guys are still around and still spreading awareness and knowledge about autism! Keep it up!!!
Because our guy is non-verbal, it's great to hear these things expressed by your kiddos to help identify where we can help Ethan out. He went through a phase where all tags must be cut off, shirts, stuffed animals, pillows. Don't think it was because they were scratchy but thought he might have believed they didn't belong. (We don't have tags sticking out of our legs, so why does my cyborg plushy have one?) And we might try soft bristle toothbrushes. He'll brush for a little bit on his own (we finish up for him), but he might be more comfortable if we changed up the bristles. Thank you!
That was so fun! Thank you all for putting the time and effort into developing a very creative video, which really hits home. My son who has autism has always disliked Halloween. Being a neurotypical parent I never understood this until I took a step back to reflect on why. It then seemed quite obvious - 1. socializing with strangers 2. scary creatures wandering the streets 3. candy (new food) 4. loud sounds 5. obnoxious lights 6. and now dressing up in costume...etc. It becomes real clear when you think about it. Total nightmare.
My sister, who, as far as I am aware doesn’t have autism, has the fear of labels. For example, she would throw a full on tantrum, for a good 5-10 minutes if there is a clothes label on ANY of her clothes, from t-shirts to hats. I on the other hand, again I don’t think I have autism, have this fear, and others such as smells or crowds. However unlinked her, I would keep it to myself. I also have a fear of germs, germaphobia, so that links to crowds and smells. I really enjoy watching your channel and how the boys are growing up, and I praise you for how you handle things.
Love this. I have all the issues except the shower one. One I have that wasn't mentioned is an aversion to strong mint taste in any fashion be it food, gum or toothpaste. At 55 I use bubble gum flavored toothpaste because anything else feels like physical pain and immediate nausea. Love the creative video and how well the boys played their parts.
That's so interesting. My kids were excitedly telling their pediatrician about their new ACT pineapple mouthwash and she told us she get nauseous using mint so she'd like to try the kids stuff.
Hello Autism Family😊, I wanted to sincerely thank you for every video you upload. I am a mother of two awesome and beautiful autistic children (8 and 12 )and we love watching your videos as a family. This video was perfect! My kids can so relate. It means the world to my family to see all of your awesome personalities and great sense of humor. Thank you so much once again, you are all such a blessing! 😁
WOW! This video was amazing! I’m so glad you guys made a video like this. I came across your channel earlier this evening and have spent a couple of hours watching your other videos. Then I saw this one and it brought a sense of calm to my heart. I know autism is tough, but for the boys to be able to take their struggles and provide others with laughter is a wonderful thing. It reminds us that people with autism have a sense of humor too and like to laugh just like everybody else. I had a tough childhood myself, but luckily I had lots of siblings and a lot of times, laughter is what got us through the difficult moments. You guys are excellent parents. The boys are in great hands. Keep doing what your doing for them and for everybody who comes here for guidance. To the boys, don’t ever be afraid to be you and have fun with it. That’s what everybody else in this world does and nobody is perfect at it. Like I told my brother once, it’s your life and you’re the one who has to live it, so live it the way you want, not the way others want you to live it.
3:25 LOL this is me! I start to feel anxious and feel as IF everyone is watching me eat and judging me..was worse like this in middle school/high school but as I got older,I became better and really stopped giving a you know what🤷♀️😅
Here is another one, which is pretty common in autistic people - I figured out myslef pretty late, but it explaines a lot. I suffer from selective mutism. I'm not able to call on anyone who doesn't give me an attention. Not even my parrents, my husband. The only exception is my children. Good thing is that I don't need to bother with remembering names, I'm not able to use them anyways. Bad side of it is I'm not able to use my phone to call someone, but I can answer.
There could have been a bonus for loud sounds at the end; your family would start watching Star Wars and the THX “Deep Note” sound plays at the beginning of the movie, scaring your kids.
😂😂😂😂😂😂 Hoooo the way you did it, so funny, LOL, exquisite sens of humour, I'm laughing to death! And I understand the 3 of 5 fears. Soooooo much... Hahaha the tooth brush scene just killed me.
This was hilarious 😂 My sensory issues is certain noises. I do not like the sound of slurping and the sound of a spoon clanging in a bowl. However, the sound of a fork scraping on a plate doesn't really bother me as much. Smells, taste and most touches don't tend to bother me.
LOL love how you edited this!!! My son tends to not like certain things when he feels them or taste them(I often tend to find him being "overly dramatic" but I will deep down ask myself if he can possibly be on any spectrum...he also does NOT like tags on his shirts😩🤦♀️.
Omg this vid just earned u guys my subscription! This vid was so much fun to watch. So funny as well. Looks like a lot of work went into making this vid and ur kids r awesome for being such good sports
I remember when my mother had to cut the labels off my shirts. At some point when I got older, the labels did not bother me anymore. I outgrew it. I could not eat okra. I hated the way it looked and it was almost impossible to get down. Sometimes, it caused a huge mess of things when the gag reflex took over. Could not stand onions either nor bell pepper nor broccoli nor squash. When mom finally had enough of watching me take the stuff I would not eat out of the food she made, she started making mine separate without the things I would/could not eat. They tried all kinds of tactics to get me to eat those things but I never could. When the gag reflex took over, it was a wrap. I even had to go to bed without eating supper sometimes because I would not eat them. That was fine with me.
I’m Marley and I have level 2 Austin and I really hate slimy food and clothes with too big of a neckline and really strong perfume if I’m having a bad day and smell a really strong perfume it just sets me off and of course loud noise like clapping and too many people
I never remember my clothes sizes and when people try to look and see what size my clothes are, they can't cause I take all the tags out. Now that I'm a bit older, I just find tagless clothes which is a life saver. Also, do they have issues with oatmeal?
1:51 I never get used to Ian’s deep voice lol. I always expect the same voice we’ve always heard to come out of him then this damn grown ass man with a 401k speaks.
That crowded burger joint gave me anxiety 😬 idk if I'm on the spectrum or not but the excessive noise and overlapping chatter is soooo hard for me to tolerate.
😂😂😂omg. Was a really funny your kids are adorable. And was really good idea for show up all their aversions in a funny way. I am from Peru 🇵🇪. And I work with autism kids , it was a really good suggestions by TH-cam Of course I will subscribe and share to my sister She has 2 autism kids
This was funny. I have fear numbers 4,3, 2 and I didn’t realize also number 1. I use a toddler toothbrush because it doesn’t hurt my gums . I hate elevators , I rip all my tags off and crowded places feel suffocating. I guess I laughed because watching this made me think wow I really am autistic. Oh and smells ! Cleaners, perfumes, shampoos . I also fear certain sounds . Sounds wasn’t on your list but I wonder if that’s a big one too? Some sounds I can just feel and it bugs me so that I have to search and find where the humming or vibration is coming from so I can turn it off.
You guys have some good videos. This one was funny. Two of my least favorite things are: Slimy food and terrible smells. I hate ketchup and mustard and salad dressing, etc. I always get hamburgers plain, with nothing on them, except Lettuce, Tomato and Onion. I don’t like the smell, texture or taste of all that other junk people put on burgers. I don’t put any dressing on salads either. Slimy food with a strong, nasty smell, like ketchup make me sick from the taste, texture and smell. I also hate things with a strong, nasty smell, like vinegar. I can’t stand vinegar. It makes me nauseous jut to smell it. If I taste it, I will vomit! I am not a big fan of crowded place. But, I can tolerate it. Clothing tags are kind of annoying sometimes, but, they don’t bother me too much. Toothbrushes have never bothered me very much.
I almost got a 5/5 😅 Clothingtags is fine for me. I few have disturbed me but in that cases they gave me actual scrathes who was bleeding 💀 but I have issues with the shower so the end part is something I shouldnt have done for al money in the world 😅 well done Connor.
Oh my! I would sign with own blood all five of them. Plus: too much toothpaste, nails touching a sweater, parfum shops. And of course there is so much more, I am highly hypersensitive one. And my son (3.5 years) scratches his neck to blood when I forget to remove a tag.

My mom used to make me sweep the hair off of the carpet as a punishment for not doing my chores 😅 It was awful.
I'm excited for Halloween.
Also, keep in mind, and I'm sure you already know and are aware, but the trick or treater that comes at your door that appears to be "too old" might be because cognitively they are not the age they appear to be 💙🎃

Slimy food like jello, yoghurt, and pudding. I also really hate the texture of those wax coated textbooks
"IDK, it's in the script" - hilarious video. Ian did a great job at acting, thanks for the laughs!

My top fears as an autistic is concerts, automatic hand dryers, being barefoot on any surface other than carpet, and airports!!! AHHHH
I hate those hand dryers because they are too loud! I also hate it when my dog barks because he is loud and shrill! 🤬
I hate potato salad for the texture ALONE. Life on the spectrum is...well, it's all I know.
im autistic and I HATE clothing tags like how can people stand them
omg !!! clothing tags are pretty scratchy
As a highly sensitive person I cannot stand slimy food textures and I'm really grossed out so I totally understand 😂
