Every single time this song would start up the game would freeze for a second, as if it was going "wait wait wait--check THIS out." I'd always make sure to not to complete the objective until after this song was over too cause it was so awesome lol
This tune from 1:25 and then again from 2:22, is so powerful, ancient and mystical that i can't find words for it. Does anybody know what inspired this heavenly piece of music?
Check out my realistic map of the ancient world for the original Age of Empires if you want to feel in antiquity more. I also did many realistic maps for Age of Empires 2.
This song would play when my villagers would gang up on a sole enemy Axe-man and crush him to death with their bone-clubs, as if fore-telling that you cannot escape fate.....
This one was my favorite. Honestly havnt played any of them since this expansion. I went the way of command and conquer... maybe one day ill venture backwards
I remember this song for how it always used to play after I was just getting raided and my town was basically destroyed. When I gathered my last few villagers in hope of fleeing to a safe place and rebuilding, but basically accepting that the game was lost. A depressing feeling, but a dear memory.
When this was playing in game and I knew that the build up was coming I would always take all my forces (cataphracts, catapults, horse archers) to the enemies borders. Then, when the song reaches 2:21, I would send everything forward at once. It felt like the most epic thing ever. Did anyone else do this?
Incredible game. I remember playing this masterpiece when I was 12-13. The music is fantastic - provides a nostalgic element to an era that we all never lived in, yet feel a deep longing for.
FAVOURITE SONG!!!! I really loved it when this song came up when playing. I stopped dropped all activities, just sat back and listened. Ahhh, nostalgic
age of empires 1 and 2 were one hell of games though i was nearly 10 years old when they got released. But i feel that this two games influenced me very much
the thing i liked most in the soundtrack was that the IMO best tracks are at the end so they play when you have played for a long time and have big armies and big battles. so epic times.
i love this game...i was playing it 4 years ago :X:X i still remmeber everything about it I remember, when I heared this music,it means i've done something,I've builded many houses... :X:X:X:X
This song is terrible. Anybody who played these games should feel sorry for themselves bec- *wololoooo* I loved this game! Best of my childhood if you ask me! And this music is simply amazing.
Even though this game was eclipsed by Rise of nations and Rome total war as the best ancient era RTS (though Rise of nations focuses not just on the ancient era, but all of history) this game is still a gem and the grand daddy of the entire historical RTS subgenre.
@BohemianAsh I always thought this when I played this when I was younger, and now I'm studying archaeology at uni. Interesting to note that most other people on my course are/were age of empires players ^^
It depends on your sound card midi sounds, the guy that uploaded this video has great MIDI sounds, mine are great too (I use an Audigy from Creative).. I remember playing AoE on my old computer, it sounded horrible..
@mubbashir7778 that's just the way of life my brother i used to playt this when i was a little kid too now im almost 20 and i can't gtet enough of this :P
@mubbashir7778 Lol i can imagine that "Ok son We need more wood, but we must keep some gathering gold. I know the feeling dude its the same with my dad
Do you have better version of this song. In game it sounds must better , especially the chorus (start at 1:25) when the string sounds is the main, not the drum
Every single time this song would start up the game would freeze for a second, as if it was going "wait wait wait--check THIS out." I'd always make sure to not to complete the objective until after this song was over too cause it was so awesome lol
glad to see I'm not the only one!!
Yea.... Played this game 15 years ago and I still remember this song
I remember the freezing as well...
The freezing was so cool 😂
i remember that... now this game loads basically instantly on my modern PC lol
Im 90% positive this was the first game i ever played. Every piece of the music sends me straight back to when I was a kid. Especially this one.

Wololo! Wololo!
they got their head split in two by battle axe.
This tune from 1:25 and then again from 2:22, is so powerful, ancient and mystical that i can't find words for it.
Does anybody know what inspired this heavenly piece of music?
True. Listening this piece, I was imaging Hannibal led his hodgepodge yet magical army crossing the Alps under the afternoon sun.
*imagining
first instruments made by human in honour to our half gods represented by many "animals" like we call them..
2:22 is some of the best written music ever in a video game...it truly captures the theme of time and the rise/fall of civilizations.
Check out my realistic map of the ancient world for the original Age of Empires if you want to feel in antiquity more. I also did many realistic maps for Age of Empires 2.
This is my favorite song in this game!!!!!
best one from the OST
oh yeah
I was one of the first people to watch this video, now 2 years later loads more people have watched and commented on it :) good to see its popular

You have a lot of AoE my friend with remasters of all the OG titles including Mythology and a fourth game
This song is so great! Probably one of the best of the AOE series (alongside Noddinagushpa)
This music is a big part of my Childhood back then when i was 6-7-8 years old
I remember this song for how it always used to play after I was just getting raided and my town was basically destroyed. When I gathered my last few villagers in hope of fleeing to a safe place and rebuilding, but basically accepting that the game was lost. A depressing feeling, but a dear memory.
Doesn't this just make you want to travel back in time and witness the amazing and wondrous civilizations that existed? :D
When this was playing in game and I knew that the build up was coming I would always take all my forces (cataphracts, catapults, horse archers) to the enemies borders. Then, when the song reaches 2:21, I would send everything forward at once. It felt like the most epic thing ever. Did anyone else do this?
Yeah I'd start building a wonder and watch all the townspeople work in time with the music
Lon Dalton same! 😍
chills start from 01:25 goosebumps lol

Alamas! Zoocontal! Reardon!
I think this was my favourite one from when I was a kid.
Godlike banger. I wish I knew how to make something like this track.
This is a certified hood classic
My favorite track! Reminds me of the rogue centurion I had that ran around killing villagers on his own.
Aiohouhuu! wholololo! 😂
And that's coming from a guy named Methuselah. lmao That feel bro.
the best song of age of empire :DD
Gives me the fucking chills.

Clay Miller woah watch out man. Dont get too close to priests.
Had me in the first half, not gonna lie.
This was also one of the tracks in AoE 2 alpha build. Neat stuff.
Memorie from THE awesome game :)
Good memories...

awesome
bene listening to aoe music a lot over the years and missed this one
@BohemianAsh I always thought this when I played this when I was younger, and now I'm studying archaeology at uni. Interesting to note that most other people on my course are/were age of empires players ^^
Now this song brings Roman vibes
It depends on your sound card midi sounds, the guy that uploaded this video has great MIDI sounds, mine are great too (I use an Audigy from Creative).. I remember playing AoE on my old computer, it sounded horrible..
this is the music that played when you were in tool age building up your economy and keep exploring the map, OR rushing

Giancarlo Giovannetti easy m8
A super cool one
I can picture some ninja-like Achilles character getting deep with this song

@CSnakeV once ma friend installed it his mother started to play it and she became a big fan of it
*distant sound of attack horn*
I call this track "Muse of Supremacy".
One of my faves - though do you know where I can find the non-midi version?
@CSnakeV NOW I AM 16 BUT I WAS A GREAT PLAYER OF THIS GAME WHEN I WAS 9 AND TODAY I DOWNLOADED IT AGAIN I AM CRYING TIME PASSED SO FAST

Touched by Gods.
best
it did, for the asiatic civilisations. Especially China
@mubbashir7778 Lol i can imagine that "Ok son We need more wood, but we must keep some gathering gold. I know the feeling dude its the same with my dad
The fall of rome is what it looks like in that picture
The parts from 1:25 and 2:22, with the CD music playing, sounded too much like that "Casablanca" pop song, it took me out of the mood hearing it.
1:25 reminds me of Crab rave, anyone else?
One TH-camr just couldn't get their hands on the "Age of Empires - Rise of Rome" CD... ;-)
this version is different from in game
This is the CD Version. You might be talking about the midi version.
This is the MIDI version using a different SoundFont to the default Microsoft General MIDI.
@@citizenhal The MIDI version misses the Intro as well
Best song from the aoe soundtrack
I think this soundtrack fit with Middle ages timeline (AOE 2)....
Clever girl....
@Methuselah18
Dude, your called Methusalah
Can anyone tell me the official names of these Rise of Rome tracks?
@Rhynorune I don't think he meant on his comment, guys.
At 2:22 things get chilling
Playing with GnBots is key nowadays tho vs the Chinese
i love aoe music
Rise of Romes got some great background music but also some songs which irritate me . Example would be the 1st song in RoR.
Czekam aż cheyeno zrobi z tego sampla
Which version do you all like better?
This one, the original.
Or the definitive edition version?
ahh.....
sounds like the intro to a 2pac song..
somos
I feel confused when i am listening to this song
which civilization correspond to this melody?
Greek-like!
The boomers had great games
Do you have better version of this song. In game it sounds must better , especially the chorus (start at 1:25) when the string sounds is the main, not the drum
Well, this is the MIDI verison.
Rogan
So,Is this one midi version or CD version ?,i remember my game soundtrack is a bit different
