They'll last longer than that but alkalines will last up to 10x longer still... so best to avoid the zinc cells at all costs. :)

Evan's First Home Videos Yeah I've tried zinc cells and alkalines before. Although I didn't get the 10x improvement (as suggested by the advert) there was a noticeable improvement.
I have a portable Philips radio that I used to use all the time; I still use it now but not as often. Using zinc chloride cells I could barely get 2 weeks of usage (at 1.5 hrs per day, 5 days per week) before the zinc cells were dead. Using alkalines (Morrisons Extra Long Life) I comfortably got 6 weeks usage, with sometimes getting 8 weeks usage. I suppose that I would have got even longer had I used Duracell Ultra's!
In that radio I now use Logik AAA Alkalines and they last quite a long time, haven't tested thoroughly, though admittedly this radio now has 30 minutes usage per day, for 3 days a week.
I also used to use an old Packard Bell MP3 player; the manufacturers quoted a 10 hour battery life on one AAA cell, and with alkalines I used to get 8-10 hours worth of usage, with power saving settings turned on. I didn't test Zinc Cells in that device as they were so poor and would barely start up the MP3 player!
In most other devices I use (even low power devices!) the Alkalines outperform the Zinc Cells.
So the cheapness of zinc cells really isn't worth the hassle.
