    The meaning of the movie is supposed to represent humanity violating and tormenting mother earth. Jennifer is mother earth, her husband is God, the man and wife are Adam and Eve, and the two kids are supposed to be Cain and Abel. If you rewatch it with this meaning in mind you'll realize that it makes a lot more sense.

      Also, notice when Veronica (or Mother) keeps telling Woman (Eve) not to go into her husband's study. Her and the Man goes in anyway and they break his most prized possession (the crystal looking thing). It represents Eve not listening to God and partaking of the fruit.

    People saw themselves in this movie. It gave them a reflection of how they are as humans. Unaccountable, blaming others for their actions, and taking things and breaking things that’s not theirs. Out for themselves and not thinking about others or the earth for the matter. That’s the real reason why many people disliked this movie. A true Masterpiece. 💯

      @@georgeburns6512 you’re trying to insult him by making a corny joke, but his analysis of the movie in regards to humans is real. Mankind has destroyed Mother Nature, through the raping and pillaging of the worlds natural resources. We worship Gods (Christian’s, Buddhist, muslims) , like the way they worshipped the poet, and in the end naturally it’s in our nature to destroy ourselves (we have weapons that could literally obliterate the planet with the push of a button) Just like the destroyed house at the end. So maybe next time get your head out of your ass and think instead of mock.

    It’s a basically about god (Javier bardem) and Mother Earth (Jennifer Lawrence) being this perfect couple. Then humanity comes in and god, being loving but somewhat obtuse, let’s them in and do what they want. Mother Earth does not like this. They ruin everything and basically never listen to her and do what they want. Eventually, a little baby that represents Christ gets involved and it almost immediately killed. Mother Earth is pissed so she’s goes nuclear and burns the house down to kill everyone because they don’t appreciate the planet they’re on. She dies and god is sad. Eventually, another Mother Earth is born who isn’t her and the cycle continues again.

      You people are under a spell.
      A spell that has been cast on you by politicians and their convenient, indoctrinating arm known simply as the school system.
      Manipulation is convenient, powerful and extremely effective when you are controlling information through school system.
      And everyone that isn't under that spell that you are under knows and see clearly that you are demented, modern day hippies.
      I would suggest the old catchphrase, "just listen to yourself !" but nut cases are hopelessly oblivious.
      There is enough crude oil under just 11 square miles (a grain of sand relative to a beach) in Colorado to provide energy for the next 10,000 years.
      And carbon produced from that, relative to our atmosphere, is equalent to a fart in the wind.

    For those who don't understand, Jennifer Laurence represents both Mother Nature and Mother Mary. Javier Bardem represent God (thus explaining their age gap). The book (I believe it was a novel) that Javier is writing is the Bible. The man who first came into the house is Adam and the woman is Eve. Cain and Abel are represented by their two sons. Jennifer represents Mother Mary because she gave birth to Jesus, whom the people immediately begin praising. Javier Bardem wishes to take their son in order to show the public his "son." Jennifer also represents Mother Nature by showing us how humans begin to enter the house and cause havoc. That one scene where random people start painting the house's wall is our way of demonstrating that we want to help the earth, even if mother nature (Jennifer) wants us to leave.

I've heard people say "we get it, it's about religion and humanity and nature" as if he forced it too much. I personally think it was great. Aronofsky seems to have this mentality of "go big or go home" which I appreciate. He fully utilises every aspect of cinema and doesn't hold back when it comes to telling his stories.

      The whole movie is based on the fact that Jennifer Lawrence’s character or mother, is the first goddess and the man or HIM is god. They live peacefully before the first man which is what they call him comes to their door and kind of makes it his home too. Then after man of course comes women. They explain that they are there because they love the new book that HIM wrote, which many people believe to have been the bible. These people are supposed to be religious and love gods work. Throughout the whole movie it shows how mother wants the them (The humans) out of the house but HIM likes the attention and wants them to stay. Everybody knows what happens after that when the humans kill each other and a whole war goes on in the house. It’s supposed to show how the goddess or mother wants peace and only to be with her husband, but it also shows god being selfish and wanting for people to believe and worship him as a god. Mother ends up dying and her heart is what makes the day restart back to normal with a slightly different version of Mother coming to life. It also shows the same scene in the beginning of the movie which shows that the cycle just repeated as well. Many people think it’s supposed to show how everything was peaceful before Man or (Humans) came to gods home, (Earth) and destroyed it. All while mother, also referred to as a goddess or Mother Earth, wants to get rid of the humans, God or HIM wants them to stay and worship him. It’s a very deep movie that I didn’t understand at first but when I realized that it had to do with the bible and god I re-watched the movie and it all made sense.

    I feel like I just got Rickrolled into thinking I was going to see a psychological thriller about a woman's secretive husband and instead was given a confusing symbolic allegory on the Bible who's moral to me seems to be don't buy a big house in the country with Javier Bardem.

    • @lagatowolfwood
      @lagatowolfwood 7 ปีที่แล้ว +40

      Mia Mindyourownbusiness - I did, from what the trailer suggests here it's a dark thriller perhaps dealing with an unspeakable secret held between Michelle Pfeiffer, Ed Harris, and Javier Bardem and from his wife Jennifer Lawrence. A secret she's unfolding as the movie progresses. What I got instead was a deeply metaphorical story based on all creation and the world which I wish they would have just been up front about before walking in the theater. It was like framing 'The Shining' out to be a "feel good family drama about the challenges of raising a child with special needs." So that's why I say it's the marketing equivalent of walking into the theater hearing Rick Astley singing "Never gonna give you up, never gonna let you down.."

    • @lagatowolfwood
      @lagatowolfwood 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Mia Mindyourownbusiness - that's a fair point, looking back on it while I initially got the impression they bought the house together beforehand it does make more sense that he owned the house before and she was then fixing it up. Still though, if Javier Bardem asks you to come to live with him in the country you should be sure to establish a visitor policy beforehand. :P

    I don't understand some people hating on this movie especially those who calls it worst movie. Like what kind of standards do you have? It's a well thought and well executed film. Though I had so much anxiety throughout the film, that's because the movie was so effective that you will feel that you're part of what's happening. I also got scared as what the character does, get also mad as what the main character feel especially for that baby scene. Lol. There's so much symbolism and references that after thinking about it will totally make sense. Maybe those who calls it a garbage film are the same person who would say that Marvel films are masterpiece (Oops! 🙊).

    Guys come on the brother killing the brother??that was Cain and able! Jennifer even says it’s „supposed to be a paradise“
    It’s a 100% biblical. They were entering paradise/heaven and filled it with sin! Turned it into a Gomorrha. Then the poet had people praising him did horrible things and STILL he said they have to be forgiven.
    That’s pretty clear to me.

      Did they eat Jesus after giving birth to him in the Bible? Yes there is the eating of Christ and the blood of Christ and yes there is so much biblical imagery the anointing of the head too, oh wait what symbol was left on the heads? A reverse moon symbolizing the sign of cancer which in astrology represents family and tribe.Also the crescent moon also reminds me of a religious group entering our house right now. If you only saw the Christian elements I feel sorry for you, there is so, so , so much more to this story. But thanks for the Cain and able scene I don't know that story as well and totally missed that part but the story has so much raw primal ancient European imagery it got me researching ancient history and did come across Cain and Able in my research, that is a very interesting time I got the sense that around that time we had a truer sense of spirituality. What we have today is a re telling of that story that is modified, like this story is like a modified biblical story, but yeah there's way more to the story I saw the movie way more racial and about politics and immigration and a lot of European history, it was like how there were several black super hero movies but when black panther came out black people were like "This is how white people feel all the time" We have so many more white movies but they are so universal, this was so primal European esk after I was like so this is what black people sort of felt when they made black panther.

    *Movie Explanation* (SPOILER) It's called mother because Jen represents Mother Earth. The husband is like god and you know how he invited the people over? God created humans. Mother Earth worked hard to create earth. Jen/mother worked hard to build the house. The house is earth. Human overpopulation, humans not caring about the earth and remember the part when the couple were painting the house? It's how humans are making the earth how they want it but not how it's supposed to be. Like building buildings and factories. The house is destroyed. How humans are destroying the earth. That's also why the husband didn't die. Because he's god. Reincarnation is how the other woman was there at the end. And remember how in the beginning, the older woman (not mother) said "why don't you buy a new house instead of building this one after it was burnt down?" (Something like that) is because the previous mother burnt down the house like Jen/mother. If there's anything I missed, please reply on this. *MAKE THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE* oh yea and: mind=blown
    Edit: and she had the baby to try to revive the world and give it new life but the people killed it. The blood on the floor and she tries to give a sign but the people don't care and it gets worse. Mother Earth is always cleaning up after the humans give her a break. Please.

      Christina Hobbs (I'm probably wrong here, but sod it)
      My guess is that Bardem's character is a child killer of some sort (think cult leader status) and Lawrence plays the one he chose to spare - he could be her step-father.The visitors might be acolytes who offered or wanted their children sacrificed.
      In terms of the title: Mother!, I can only assume she is Bardem's muse and Lawrence's mother. Whether she's evil or not, let alone alive..too early to tell.

Worst film ever" without considering anything else about it. Not to mention the fact that a lot of people can't muster up a single brain cell to even decipher the symbolism in this film. Put not being able to handle being offended and the incapability to think into depth about what the movie could mean together and you get a lot of people that give films like this a bad rating.

      Jennifer Lawrence is a great actor. She gets shit on by people all the time because everyone wants to be too cool to like her. She is legitimately a very talented actress though. Granted I think some people overhype her but there are people who do that with every actor. I think she deserves some slack and I am excited for her role in this movie.

    This film was amazing. Most people will say "it was so broing", but those are the same people who call jump scare-movies 'horror' such as Lights Out (I never knew a loud noise was considered horror, lol). This film is original, scary and stylistic. Jennifer Lawrence deserves another Oscar for her performance in this. It is genuinely unnerving and creates horror by putting its audience in uncomfortable situations. 10/10 from me!

    Their son killed his brother (Abel and Cain) and that was the first crime of humanity .. in that same spot the earth is still bleeding
    The girl builed the house from aches just like the earth build itself beautifully after the cataclism of dinosaurs and all that hard work is destroyed by us by people

    The mansion: house of god
    Location: Eden
    God: the Husband
    Virgin Mary: the wife (Jen Lawrence)
    Their baby: Jesus (sacrificed by fanatics)
    First couple: Adam and Eve
    First couple's sons: Abel and Cain
    After god banished Adam and Eve for shattering the crystal (the forbidden fruit), humanity turned feral, primitive, barbaric and vicious. The final attack on the house showed the many different faces of humanity. Some turned cultist, others made wars with each other etc.

    I personnally think people that are still arguing about her acting abilities today are simply haters and will never be convinced anyway. Lawrence proved her talents as an actress years ago. First in winter's bone when she delivered a stellar performance. And she confirmed in American Hustle which in my opinion is her most spectacular performance to date even though it was a supporting role. She simply has nothing to prove to anyone now.

    One of the best movies ever but also one of the most underrated. Our society is too ignorant to appreciate such a masterpiece. • @SpaceCattttt
      @SpaceCattttt 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Sure, humans are horrible. But I think the film deals with how some are able to give and express love for another,
      while others thrive on the love they receive, but are unable to give it back to the person who gave it to them.
      You're either a spring from which water flows, or you're a washcloth that dries up the water.
      Neither of them are necessarily bad. People are just different.
