- The budding Emerald City friendship lives in my head rent-free. Their instant sibling energy is chef's kiss perfection. So here's a 25 minute video of these green teens going from enemies to allies to friends to siblings in, like, a day. Lots of Oz in here, too! He played a MAJOR role in Emerald's defection and is narratively paralleled with her multiple times this volume, mostly by Oscar. (Okay, entirely by Oscar.) Enjoy!

I understand why a lot of people say she's terribly written but you have to admit that line is freaking iconic
Funny that Oscar was the only reason Emerald didn't get beat up. Both Yang and Ruby were ready to throw hands.
I can see where people are coming from when they complain about Emerald's turn into one of the "good" guys but tbh It makes perfect sense to me. She was a girl that stole to survive and fended for herself until Cinder took her under her wing. She obviously had a strong emotional attachment to Cinder and would have done anything for her, but that doesn't mean she always liked it. As early on as the fall of Beacon you can see Mercury and Cinder almost relishing in the death and destruction but Emerald does NOT look happy, a little scared or mortified even. After she seemingly loses Cinder she loses that attachment, has no incentive/validation from Cinder to carry out those horrendous acts, and leaves out of fear of Salem. Cuz ya know. Now she knows Salem's goal is the complete annihilation of Humanity.

Like I said I can see where people are coming from, could have been more developed but I definitely don't think it was "out of nowhere" or as poorly written as some people say. For RWBY's writing lol
I see why she wants to switch sides. The main issue is why the main characters are forgiving her
She faked being a freind and helped with the fall of Beacon which resulted in Pyrrha and Penny's death, plus the other huntsmen and civilians, the school falling, and that whole area being grimm infested. Then in V5 when she reunites with them she tries to destroy another school, Weiss almost died, and Cinder almost had another Maiden and the Lamp. Then cut to V7/V8 when Salem has finally arrived with all of her forces, why would they trust Emerald of all people if they couldn't even trust Ironwood.
@@camnunes8847 Because she is not a leader, but a follower. Why didn't the Allies punish the whole of germans, italians and japanese soldiers when they involved killing millions of lives both civilians and military? Will you punish the germans, italians and japanese soldiers now just because they are from the countries that kill millions from across the world? She need a second chance but she is gonna work extra hard to make up for damage she has caused and it's going to be tough.

@@camnunes8847 They didn't. They're trusting Oscar's (and ozpin's to an extent) judgment. Ren is the most relaxed one about it since he can more or less discern motives and emotions via his semblance, But everyone else was on edge over emerald. Even if she did cooperate and help them she has a long way to go.
And you can bet your ass Jaune and Ruby will never be chummy with her. Not after beacon.

"I see what you can do, Emerald" - nothing to do with Beacon, he meant, that she could trick Salem with her illusion. I like their chemistry, but Emerald's redemption was a bit rushed...

Rushed? I don't think it's even finished. Redemption isn't switching sides; redemption is a constant effort to remain good.
She is not redeemed until she faces Cinder in my eyes.
While rushed, it's still a great concept though, it would've been even more jarring if it was Mercury instead of Emerald lmao.

Its interesting even though Oscar is shorter and younger than emerald, he is the one acting like the older brother
It's so true, though! Oscar just goes through Remnant adopting adults as his children/younger siblings and I respect that about him
Emerald and Oscar have a really good Dynamic here,I could see them forming a Brother and Sister type Relationship.
Yeah plus with Hazel they definalty had a Father and Daugther kind of relationship as well so Emerald finally is getting the family she always wanted I feel.

The whole idea that huntsmen exist only to fight ozpins war is so dumb. They exist because grim are a constant threat that need to be dealt with. Salem or not, huntsmen would still have to exist. He's not raising children to fight a war, he's teaching them to defend their homes and towns and less defended villages

it certainly is. And even faster since using magic. Oscar and Ozpin are both acting more and more like each other and it is fascinating! Lmk if you want clarification on who's who in these clips cause they're getting easier to mix up and most of this video is volume 8
Prediction: Oscar will become head of Atlas secret police and will basically be a shadow leader, using a puppet in his public stead.
well that's a new one! Considering Atlas is currently... in need of rebuilding if salvageable, it'd take a long time for that to happen, and there's no telling what the political climate will be like now. I don't feel like Oscar's necessarily the type to use a puppet or lead from the shadows, given his value of transparency & informed cooperation along with his tendency to tackle things head-on. He's more prone to taking action himself than delegating from an ivory tower, and generally doesn't like secrecy. But I'm intrigued, what makes you think this? It's a cool theory and I'd love to know more!
