- Sir Keir Starmer has confronted calls for the UK to pay reparations for its historical part in the slave trade while surrounded by Commonwealth leaders.
Speaking at an executive session of a Commonwealth summit in Samoa, the Prime Minister said it was important to acknowledge a “hard” shared history, and that he understood the “strength of feeling” about reparations.
Flanked by leaders from Uganda and Tanzania, Sir Keir said he wanted to work “together to make sure the future is not in the shadow of the past”, and promised to host a UK-Caribbean forum with leaders of the nations most impacted by slavery’s legacy.
Former Conservative MP Tom Hunt says he's "embarrassed" Labour are representing the UK, as the slavery reparations row deepens.
"Instead of saying it's total bloody nonsense, we're proud of our country's history and that we ended slavery - he's tying himself in knots!"

So as someone who earns 30K, lives alone, doesn't buy luxuries and doesn't have holidays to be able put a few extra pounds in to savings accounts or Index funds to help with a pension when I'm older, I'm no longer classed as a "working" person. Labour always want radical changes. they forget they had only 37% of the votes cast.. 63% of voters chose someone else. but Labour think they have universal support. i can't wait to vote them out next time. and indeed cast vote against local Labour council in May.

While I recognize there is poverty in some Commonwealth countries, there is relative deprivation in the UK too. Is it fair to ask the current residents of Glasgow & Bradford to pay tax to people in Kenya 🇰🇪, when this current generation had no part in what happened before 1950?

Anyone who goes to work, pays tax and national insurance is a working person. Extra income from shares, property ownership or any other sources has nothing to do with it.
The aristocracy, royalty, drug dealers, thieves and people traffickers are examples of people who don't work. Labour politicians who have never delivered anything in their lives are another example.

People tend to forget the fact that Slavery was the norm in most Eastern lands Centuries before it migrated to the west. Also it was great Britain that outlawed it first.

So ...... someone who has built up a company by working long hours each day, often 7 days a week, and put every available pound into it until it has grown enough to employ staff, is s/he a 'working person'?? Or do company owners not count? Starmer's not clarifying that, as usual he just fudges around. Hopeless.
Not one of these clowns has ever set up or run a business, they have no clue how much hard work goes into it or the sacrifices that have to be made. They think everyone who’s set up a successful business had everything easy and they are profiting because they take advantage of their workforce.
