I just naturally assumed Magneto was holding back for some reason in regard to using his magnetism directly against Wolverine, so when he shanked him he just went "Fuck it" and de-adamantiumed him.
I saw another video that mentioned that the conflict between the X-Men and Magneto was kind of a gentleman’s war beforehand. Mercy and truce terms would be offered before and both sides were more interested in capturing or pacifying rather than killing each other. Now all deals are off, so to speak. Killing and maiming each other isn’t off the table now. They’re treating this like an actual war
I feel like he held back against everyone up until this point tbh. He is the "mutant Messiah" so it makes sense he wouldn't simply go all out against the X men , and he held back against the humans cause of Charles' dream. Now it seems such limiters are off, though it might not matter much in Magento's case looking at where the show is headed.

I think this version of Magneto probably considered Wolverine's metal bones off limits for anything more than shoving him away, because he detests the idea of taking away another person's agency. Considering that Xavier's power can be used to do just that, it makes a lot of sense for him.
Well said. Additionally, my belief was always, magento just held back since he knew he could end logan anytime if he really wanted. Once charles did what he did, combined with logan actually stabbing him through the body, lines were def crossed in eriks mind so , as he said “This Feud…is over.”
I would not suggest anything Magneto is doing is rational. By killing the Earth's magnetic field, he would kill millions of mutants too. He has PTSD and it's clear pain and trauma are getting in the way with his ability to reason.
@funkysam1345 what I am going to say is kind of unfortunate, but people on the left have become so radicalized over the years that seeing someone from a marginalized group inflicting very high punishment on his oppressors is like a fever dream to them. Hence why they think Magneto or even Hamas (irl) are justified in their actions and these people don’t care about the harm they cause. Thank God, these radicals don’t have powers.
He didn't use his magnetism on wolverine out of respect, but after wolverine trys to kill him that respect went out the window, thats why his final line was "finally its over" or something like that because that was the last straw. Its kinda like the unspoken rule of don't take of the mask.
My broader comment on X-Men '97 is this is a series that wasn't sure whether it was getting a second series so it has smooshed about 3 seasons worth of stories into 10 episodes. I'm not complaining, the lack of filler is welcome, but by god they have gone at breakneck speed.

The magnetic field leaving earth is literally doomsday. It’s the entire reason Mars is a desolate wasteland. It protects us from the harsh solar radiation (which is why Superman goes into space to recharge, solar radiation is stronger there) and helps keep the atmosphere from sputtering out. Super excited for the next episode, can’t wait to see how it’s resolved and moreover what the long term consequences will be within the Marvel Animated Universe itself
Depends on how long it was gone. We've lost our magnetic field multiple times but it always came back. We could probably handle a couple weeks or so but there'd be a lot of fried electronics and skin cancer rates would skyrocket.

While there are some criticisms that I agree with, others I don't. Regarding sending Wolverine to fight Magneto (which is a move they keep making in the comics, obviously): up to this point, Magneto had always been holding back against the X-Men, and he clearly still was during this fight up until this point. He very visibly wasn't trying to kill Cyclops or Jubilee, who also weren't trying to kill him. But Wolverine saw an opportunity he might not have taken in their previous encounters (you know, before Magneto killed thousands... er, millions) to try to take him out once and for all... but he also knew that they needed Magneto alive to undo the damage. So, Wolverine probably went for a decisive but not entirely fatal strike. And that escalated things. As for sending Cable to fight Sinister, they didn't even have reason to believe Sinister would be there. He kind of showed up out of nowhere. They also didn't have reason to believe Sinister could mind control Cable even if he did show up. And as for why they didn't just send a team of two people or whatever: they knew Bastion was unlikely to be disabled, so he's still a dangerous opponent. Cable has knowledge on Bastion that makes him the most qualified to figure out how to shut him down. Besides, if sending Wolverine to fight Magneto is a duh moment, sending Cable, whose entire arm is metal, would have been even worse.
I think Xavier trying to mind control him also pushed him over the edge. I'm fairly sure he was going to straight up kill Xavier if Logan didn't stop him.
He would’ve killed everyone who didn’t get on the asteroid though so it’s not exactly like they were dealing with a rational choice. Xavier was right to try to force him to restore the EMP.
I would've loved for morph to get a 1 on 1 fight with sinister this episode, and sinister just opens with "we're the same, you and i. neither of our powers make sense in any way."
People forget in the original cartoon Magneto Never took advantage of Wolverine's metal skeleton. Wolverine tackled Magneto to the ground on at least 2 occasions Magneto went easy on our heroes and i think the episode highlights the flaw with Xaviers approach. Hes been gone all this time, Magneto has had enough and is ready to destroy Earth but Xavier thinks he can just head into asteroid M and change Magnetos mind. He doesnt understand how much things have changed and this really is war
This episode is truly remarkable, and the action is masterful! THAT ENDING WAS INSANE! While I do understand Charles's reasoning for giving Magneto the mansion, the man still neglected his students and pupils. Look where they are now: on the brink of war, he's lost two team members to Magneto (Rogue quite literally went rogue)and Magneto's line: "God's abandon those who believe in them" is such a powerful line. I love how Storm and Jean see each other as sisters, and their bond together is really wholesome. That line: “Make them mind your weather, sister. And them weather your mind" is such a good line! I find it interesting that Bastion still loves his mother despite what he did to her and turned her into a sentinel zombie, which makes me think he's not as emotionless and robotic as we were made to believe since he is part human. It's scary how powerful Bastion is, considering he's essentially a one-man Sentinel factory. Nah, the animation in this show is PHENOMENAL AND GIVES ME MAJOR ANIME VIBES, I LOVE IT! Magneto has wanted to say "SHUT THE F*** UP" to Charles for a while, and that alone is hilarious! MAGNETO STRAIGHT-UP PULLING OUT LOGAN'S ADAMANTIUM, JUST LIKE IN THE COMICS, WAS BRUTAL ASF!!!
Well I woudnt compare it with anime though. Like thats insane level of detailed animation. Butb honestly the storytelling is good enough to keep u hooked. Not the best animated stuff out there, but honestly doesnt need to be. No real flaws as such. Limited by its own episode limit. The creators hv clearly showcased their potential by doing brilliant stuff with the limitations they have worked in.

16:40 Onslaught may not be the greatest character despite having a cool design and cool story. But considering how X-men 97 has a way taking elements from the comics and making it better, I do think they will do something really interesting if Onslaught is the direction they end up going.
Kurt constantly makes the point he doesn't have to see where he's going, he just needs to picture the landing in his mind. So while I'm not sure about the range, line-of-sight isn't an issue.

The make up of the teams work to need of the situation and the strengths of the characters. Regarding your criticisms most of them can be answered with- the characters don't know what the audience knows. Example: The X-men doesn't know about the Sinister connection (or did I miss it?). That's why the sent that team to fight Bastion...
My theory on Morph is he can simulate "physical" powers. So he can grow, become stronger (like the hulk) or faster (like quicksilver), simulate claws etc like Deathstrike but (and correct me if I'm wrong here) he can't simulate powers like Cyclops, Magneto, Storm, Prof X etc.

Magneto EMP'd the planet to shutdown all electrical devices, thus stopping the Sentinels, and did so by manipulating the Earths magneticfield which could cause irreparable damage to the planet if not undone, but undoing it will allow the Prime Sentinels to reactivate. It's comicbook science sure.. but it's not that hard to understand.. Especially since they literally say most of that in straight dialogue.
12:55 Morph doesn't get Hulk strength (or even weight) when looking like the hulk; didnt you see Jean wrapping him in TK force? Hulk doesn't generate a body forcefield, and neither does Morph, but Jean can make a lookalike Hulk seem to have hulk-like strength by applying her telekinesis.
I don't think psychological manipulation should be a part of Morph's playbook. They went through immense trauma doing that to the x-men because of Sinister's brainwashing. I don't think that's something they want to do.
Jean not grabbing Sinister drove me nuts. With everything he out her, Scott, Madelyne, and Nathan I was getting psyched up for her to slap him around. Wanda vs Thanos rotoscoping would have been perfect.

Unfortunately, they don't actually explain that. It's just flatly asserted that the world ends in 12 hours. Which I found pretty confusing. Exactly 12? How? Did I miss something? Did Magneto set up a bomb? What's going on? They should've at least had beast give a technobabble explanation, but they didn't even bother.

Basically, Magneto launched a world-wide EMP with his powers (hence while all electronics including sentineld are now down). However, it also affected the planet’s Ozone layer & its slowly deteriorating(hence the doomsday scenario)
I think a lot of people are missing the idea that both Magneto and Charles are both wrong in different ways. Magneto is correct in the sense of humanity not willing to be accept mutants fully and that Charles’ overall dream is too far away to accomplish. But him doing the EMP thing, while understandable to protect mutants, is undeniably hurting people. Just blindly saying “Magneto is right” and thinking everything he does is entirely justifiable isn’t correct imo. Charles is correct all people need to be protected and helped, but isn’t willing to accept that fundamentally, at least at this current point in the timeline, humanity isn’t going to be able to coexist with mutants, a place like Genosha or Astroid M is needed and needs to be the priority for mutant kind.
Where is Emma Frost? You would think she would do something after Genosha. Especially taking time to show she was still alive, and got a secondary mutation.
I like how Scott could've just told Professor X "hey not yet, the other team isn't done, just hold him for a while" but instead he lasered his wheelchair, made him lose his mental grip on Magneto and got Logan deskeletonized. Brilliant play Cyclops.

That includes sticking around jubilee. They're taking a very slow approach to roberto's growth. Well, it would be better for Beast to fight sentinels. Nightcrawler was needed in the space plan. Wolverine does not do sentinels that well. At least those kind. I think the teams work because the character drama fit perfectly for their situations. In short, he's bad at making a strategy.
I absolutely cheered when Scott did the black leather joke. This show has its finger on the pulse of the audience and what they can do now that they didn’t want to do 20+ years ago. Love it.
To me, it seemed like Magneto had some type of internal pack of trying not to actually directly harm the mutants just get them out if the way if they aren't going join him. Because of the Rouge saying she has to put Wolverine in time out because he's playing to kill or Magnus talking about how the pack is broken so he can end the feud. But yeah, these teams were made for drama, not the mission
Magneto suffers from that trope where villains make a lot of sense, but then do dispicable shit for no reason so viewers know they're evil. Magneto's whole ideology is simply too blunt. It's just genocide. And for a hallocaust survivor to want that is, well... Of course there will always be horrible individuals. Can he not see that the same is true for mutants? Some psycho could just go and disrupt the Earth's magnetosphere and kill EVRRYONE... These attacks, retaliations, revenge - all part of coexistence. Not like all mutants would live in harmony either. They're people, and people fight. Makes no sense. Charles or Magneto. Just 2 extreme ends of the philosophical spectrum arguing hypotheticals.
I agree with the limit of Nightcrawler's teleporting abilities, however they did not have the blackbird. They mention that the were going to Muir Island to retrieve Shi'ar tech that would still work regardless of Magneto's powers. Those are the 2 jets they used. The blackbird wouldn't work in the current conditions because it probably needs electricity and there's none.

My take on it is that either we get the episode we got, where teams are a bit short-sighted and and end up facilitating these one-sided fights, or they do different teams and some very convoluted things occur for the same fights to happen. As you’ve said, they probably planned the wolverine thing first, so I imagine the writers just decided that put him on the path just for simplicity’s sake. And at the end of the day, this is ostensibly meant to be a 90’s era cartoon, so a little bit of contrivance is sort of expected at this point. Especially when it allows cool stuff like this to happen!
People were speculating this finale since episode 7 (Bastion revealed) that they do a Uno reverse card, OZT - onslaught - fatal attraction kind of stuff.
the plan should've been to temporarily reason with Magneto to get him to help take down Bastion, then they could've come to a resolution, not split the team

It feels like Magneto has to "cast out" his powers. Wolverine is a moving target, so he might "miss" and give Wolverine a chance to get close, where he would actually be a threat.

Nightcrawler of course can't traditionally teleport across oceans, especially with so many people at once, though he maybe he could do so with several jumps, like hopping from island to island in the Atlantic Ocean from New York to Muir Island.
I would be severely disappointed in Tony if his suits didn't have EMP protection. Especially since that's something he would absolutely do to take down the iron man knockoff villains

The build up to Onslaught was so intense and the REVEAL was next level. Him taking out Juggernaut immediately made it feel so high stakes and then the way he takes over New York with patrolling Sentinels made such a fantastic story... if handled well I feel like it can be a banger of a story if they keep it mysteriois for the noncomic readers
In Wolverine and the X-men there is a part where he crosses an ocean but he has to keep teleporting just above the sea over and over. He was pretty exhausted at the end though.
FYI: What Magento did. Magnetism affects the flow of electricity. The earth has a small, mostly stable magnetic field. We actually generate electricity by rotating wires in a magnetic field. If Magneto increased the strength of the Earth's magnetic field, our electric devices would short out. It would take days to calibrate private devices, months to get SOME mass produced electricity back, years to get mass produced electronic devices to the market, and then decades to get back to normal. And even if we adjusted the devices to the new setting there is little stopping Magento playing with dial from hour to hour until everything this side of Shiar tech is not fried. Usually, the more micro the tech, the more it is affected by magnetic fields. So that is why the prime sentinels are fried, but the old models were easier to adjust to the new setting.
I personally would not have divided the team. Bastion is a much more serious threat. But my hypothesis is that Magneto Protocals was sending the Avengers and Fantasic 4 to kill Magneto, and it would have looked bad if Magneto killed the Avengers. And the simple fact is Magneto doesn't have to provide a breathable atmosphere. His whole team can live in space. He can just space them then pick off Susan Storm and Thor. Magneto had the kid gloves on in that fight with the X Men
I think the fact that Magneto is enacting revenge on humans by destroying Earth's natural system, but not saving the mutants he apparently fights for, except for 2, is a valid nitpick.

I've watched the episode a couple times so I'm going to do my best to justify the team comps for the teams, even though I agree they don't really make sense lol. So, the Bastion team is easier, let's start there. Forge and Storm are givens. Forge has a huge disadvantage against Magneto, and Storm's powers are much more effective on Earth. Morph I'm assuming went this way due to wanting to stop Sinister. Beast makes sense as they need someone to track Bastion's signal to find the guy. Jean and Cable probably make the least sense, but at the same time they both want revenge on Sinister. I feel like Jean and Scott were intentionally split up to prevent either one of them from doing something stupid if the other got hurt, but obviously Jean used her powers to do so anyways lol. Cyclops wouldn't have stopped the Professor from brain wiping Magneto if he didnt know Jean was in danger, so its really on her in a twisted way 😅. Okay, now the away team. Obviously the Professor is going and Scott is there to actually lead the team if things do go to shit. The professor is out of practice and Scott has been the defacto leader for almost the whole season. Nightcrawler and Jubilee are coming to oppose their friends who joined Magneto's side... Which just leaves Wolverine. Okay, obviously it's stupid, but you could honestly call Charles's whole plan stupid for thinking Magneto could still be reasoned with. Charles views this as just another of their cat and mouse games when in reality Magneto is going in with no remorse. If you're under the impression that Magneto is still going to be somewhat honorable and not just straight up kill everyone then Wolverine is a decent choice for the sole fact that he's the only member of the team that can be trusted to actually kill Magneto if it comes down to it. Everyone else has their reservations but Wolverine makes it clear in the episode what he thinks needs to be done. And, he does it. Also, a minor nitpick for the minor nitpick, I'm pretty sure they get the jet FROM Muir island, so they can't use it to fly TO Muir island, unless I missed something. So Nightcrawler's uncharacteristic teleporting length is at least required lol.
I think Jean and Scott need to be split up in order to have any semblance of communication between teams. Any comms they would normally have would have been short circuited in the EMP wave. So because of that, they're using Jean and Scott's psychic link to maintain coordination between teams. Morph is going for stealth and infiltration (the Sinister play he attempts as an example), and Cable probably for firepower. I don't think anyone really expected Sinister to show up.
7:25 you are noticing the residue of weird details that once were canonical power restrictions and limits being overcome, only to become forgotten over time as stories streamline themselves over the iterations of retelling. Once it was the case that officially Adamantine was a non-magnetic metal, which Magneto could not control as easily as he controls magnetic metals like Iron. At some point Magneto even trained himself to be able to control muscular nerve impulses and the body's em field, enabling him to puppet humans, and fleshy xmen, including wolverine, and he even had Logan stab himself, once, but not because of his metal bones, but just by the em field of his living flesh. But by the time of Failtal Attractions Magneto was able to preform molecular manipulations and even rebuild his own body from plasma, so when Logan tried for a killing slash, Eric did what no one thought he could... and there after, Marvel forgot that Adamantium was non-magnetic all together.
It would have been cool if Nightcrawler was like “if only I could teleport us that far” and Cable was like “Professor, bodyslide by (whatever #)” and half the team was like “Professor!?”, and before anyone can say anything else, boom, the team all appears in Muir Island.
The organization of the teams is purely logical (maybe except wolverine but that has an explanation too): Beast and Forge are in the Gold team because they are both Geniuses of technology, they could be needed to shut down any technology that Bastion has still functioning. Cable is in the Gold team because he is an expert fighting Sentinels, fighting Nimrod was HIS thing, besides they didn't knew that Sinister was with Bastion there, specially because Sinister is a coward, he would had fleed as soon as Magneto's Black Out happened but he stayed only to get control over Cable (he said it himself). Charles was in the Blue team because he thought he could convince Magneto without too much violence and he would have basically been useless against Bastion. Jean was send with the Gold team because they needed a Telepat in each team to keep contact if the things went south and Charles was already in the Blue team. Kurt would be really useful in both teams but they ultimately send him with Blue team because with Magneto having Rouge's and Roberto's help they would need someone to evade them before getting to Magneto (Besides both Rouge and Roberto knew about the original plan so they wouldn't expect Kurt to be in the Asteroid M) and sending Kurt to fight Rogue would also be helpful, after all he is probably the only one that could convince Rogue to come back to the X-Men side, he was on Genosha too so he is the only one in the team that understands her... And also is her Brother (The Jet was on Muir Island btw) Jubilee was in the Blue team not only because of Roberto but also because the Magneto mission was suppossed to be the less dangerous one (Magneto was not trying to kill them until Charles controlled him but Bastion was) and Jubilee is still the less experienced of the team (besides Roberto obviously). Wolverine is the most difficult to explain but even he has an explanation for it. Both Magneto and Charles have some kind of pact of honor or something like that promising to each other to never use their powers to subdue other Mutants (Magneto is specially strong in this belief) so if you notices the only time before Charles brokes that promise that he uses his powers against wolverine is to get him away but not to totally stop him (even in the old show he never controlled him, he only pushed him away), besides Wolverine is the most experienced fighter in all the X-Men and he has a lot of experience fighting against people trying to control him, so having Wolverine in the Blue team was more of a distraction to Magneto than anything, having to focus on Logan instead of in the rest. I don't think i have to explain why Ciclops, Storm and Morph were on each team, most of them are self explanatory (Storm and Ciclops) or have no explanation because is not needed, they just needed more people in that team (Morph)
Roberto just wanted to get it on with Rogue with 3 of them being the only survivors once Earth dies 😂 All jokes aside, Kurt literally should just teleport…takes helmet…then back to Earth and put the collar on Bastion…even doing the entire mission solo would’ve worked as it wouldn’t alert anyone…world peace baby ✌️
12:00 It's my understanding that Nightcrawler doesn't have to see where he's going. He only has to have seen it. Meaning he has to have been in that place before. Nightcrawler teleports between dimensions in the comics. We've even seen that in this episode when we got the first person POV of him teleporting Wolverine. He opens a portal, from where he is to the Brimstone Dimension(I think that's what it's called?) and from there to wherever he wants to reappear. If you're thinking of the issue from X2, I haven't watched the movie in like 15 years, but I think I remember that being the explanation given as to why he was having issues going outside the Blackbird. He hadn't ever been outside in freefall, and he's never given his power a command like "10 feet away from this spot"

The thing about the teams that I was more surprised about was that they send Cyclops, the one person who is known to be able to actually hurt Sinister, to Magneto instead of Sinister
When it comes to the magnetosphere failing. I was under the impression that Magneto changed the magnetoshpere so it would keep the prime sentinels dormant, which prevented normal power transmitting down the power lines. The side effect was the earth was not being protected from cosmic rays and the atmosphere was going to be blown off eventually.
@The Nando Cut, I mentioned in you last video and asked why you're sleeping on the Onslaught saga, it was the logical conclusion, both from the Showrunner's perspective, who made it so obvious for his love of the "Fatal Attractions" storyline but also, Magneto using a magnetic pulse wave is also ripped right out of "Fatal Attractions". It seems like you might have been too young to have read those 90's comics at the time, because you keep referencing Hickman's run in the early 2000's, which yes, they'll most likely get to. But season 2 should be the Onslaught saga, and if you read those story arcs from the late 90's, it should be painfully obvious to you as well.
Morph trying to get Magneto to stop by transforming into Leech only for Wolverine to kill him with bone claws and the x-men holding a funeral for magneto would be 🤯🤯🤯
My respect for Nando grows with every one of these videos. He's honest and a real fan, and it shows (pretty sure he's the only person I've heard on TH-cam that discusses Bastion's comic backstory as the mess that it is). So I'm always looking forward to these each week. Agree that this episode felt a little off. Not bad. Just not quite as good. I think we could have used a scene between Magneto and Rogue on Asteroid M to flesh out that location, and Magneto's plan. Overall though, I still loved the heck out of this. I know Onslaught as a story is basically everything that is wrong with 90's comics. But if they elevated Bastion, they can do the same with Onslaught. And I think they could do a version of AvX alongside Onslaught. This time they could be fighting over the fate of Xavier. Think that would be a great season 2... or Onslaught could slow boil over season 2, the finale could be the battle with Onslaught, and AvX is the aftermath in season 3.
Well the thing about Magneto and Wolverine is that Magneto either didn't ever do that to Wolverine before because there was a certain line he wouldn't cross against other Mutants. So him actually resorting to something like that is meant to be Magneto crossing the line past a point of no return. It can also be theorized that Wolverine stabbing him allowed Magneto to figure out Wolverine's Adamantium down to a molecular level and then could remove it from him, but couldn't prior. Either way you want to look at it. Either Magneto always held back to an extent vs other Mutants and then crossed the line with Wolverine, or Wolverine stabbing him allowed Magneto to figure it out to do what he did.
6:57 Magneto was not at a point where he wanted to kill mutants. His intent up until the stab from Wolverine was not to kill the X-men but to give them an invitation to join his ranks. It was that move from Wolverine that crossed the line and Magneto decided it didnt matter human or mutant, if you are in his way your life is sacrifice.

My broader comment on X-Men '97 is this is a series that wasn't sure whether it was getting a second series so it has smooshed about 3 seasons worth of stories into 10 episodes. I'm not complaining, the lack of filler is welcome, but by god they have gone at breakneck speed.

It protects us from the harsh solar radiation (which is why Superman goes into space to recharge, solar radiation is stronger there) and helps keep the atmosphere from sputtering out. Super excited for the next episode, can’t wait to see how it’s resolved and moreover what the long term consequences will be within the Marvel Animated Universe itself
Depends on how long it was gone. We've lost our magnetic field multiple times but it always came back. We could probably handle a couple weeks or so but there'd be a lot of fried electronics and skin cancer rates would skyrocket.

“Just a couple little nitpicks” proceeds to nitpick everything.
While there are some criticisms that I agree with, others I don't. Regarding sending Wolverine to fight Magneto (which is a move they keep making in the comics, obviously): up to this point, Magneto had always been holding back against the X-Men, and he clearly still was during this fight up until this point. He very visibly wasn't trying to kill Cyclops or Jubilee, who also weren't trying to kill him. But Wolverine saw an opportunity he might not have taken in their previous encounters (you know, before Magneto killed thousands... er, millions) to try to take him out once and for all... but he also knew that they needed Magneto alive to undo the damage. So, Wolverine probably went for a decisive but not entirely fatal strike. And that escalated things.
As for sending Cable to fight Sinister, they didn't even have reason to believe Sinister would be there. He kind of showed up out of nowhere. They also didn't have reason to believe Sinister could mind control Cable even if he did show up. And as for why they didn't just send a team of two people or whatever: they knew Bastion was unlikely to be disabled, so he's still a dangerous opponent. Cable has knowledge on Bastion that makes him the most qualified to figure out how to shut him down.
Besides, if sending Wolverine to fight Magneto is a duh moment, sending Cable, whose entire arm is metal, would have been even worse.
Fun note: in the X-Force issue of Fatal Attractions, Cable got wrecked by Magneto in a way not too dissimilar to Wolverine.
I think Xavier trying to mind control him also pushed him over the edge. I'm fairly sure he was going to straight up kill Xavier if Logan didn't stop him.

This episode is truly remarkable, and the action is masterful! THAT ENDING WAS INSANE!
While I do understand Charles's reasoning for giving Magneto the mansion, the man still neglected his students and pupils. Look where they are now: on the brink of war, he's lost two team members to Magneto (Rogue quite literally went rogue)and Magneto's line: "God's abandon those who believe in them" is such a powerful line. I love how Storm and Jean see each other as sisters, and their bond together is really wholesome. That line: “Make them mind your weather, sister. And them weather your mind" is such a good line!
I find it interesting that Bastion still loves his mother despite what he did to her and turned her into a sentinel zombie, which makes me think he's not as emotionless and robotic as we were made to believe since he is part human. It's scary how powerful Bastion is, considering he's essentially a one-man Sentinel factory.

Well I woudnt compare it with anime though. Like thats insane level of detailed animation. Butb honestly the storytelling is good enough to keep u hooked. Not the best animated stuff out there, but honestly doesnt need to be. No real flaws as such. Limited by its own episode limit. 16:40 Onslaught may not be the greatest character despite having a cool design and cool story. But considering how X-men 97 has a way taking elements from the comics and making it better, I do think they will do something really interesting if Onslaught is the direction they end up going.
Kurt constantly makes the point he doesn't have to see where he's going, he just needs to picture the landing in his mind.
So while I'm not sure about the range, line-of-sight isn't an issue.
I think they've done clever twists/upgrades on the comic stories and so hopefully they'll do an upgrade on Onslaught as well.

1.) Mr. Sinister is still working with Bastion. The X Men know this is true, because Trask told them all just before Rogue killed him. The also saw all the work to make the Prime Sentinels at the NATO lab were they met with Trask.
2.) There are way to shield from an EMP, especially underground and inside a mountain.
3.) The make up of the teams work to need of the situation and the strengths of the characters.

My theory on Morph is he can simulate "physical" powers. So he can grow, become stronger (like the hulk) or faster (like quicksilver), simulate claws etc like Deathstrike but (and correct me if I'm wrong here) he can't simulate powers like Cyclops, Magneto, Storm, Prof X etc.

Magneto EMP'd the planet to shutdown all electrical devices, thus stopping the Sentinels, and did so by manipulating the Earths magneticfield which could cause irreparable damage to the planet if not undone, but undoing it will allow the Prime Sentinels to reactivate. It's comicbook science sure.. but it's not that hard to understand.. Especially since they literally say most of that in straight dialogue.
12:55 Morph doesn't get Hulk strength (or even weight) when looking like the hulk; didnt you see Jean wrapping him in TK force? Hulk doesn't generate a body forcefield, and neither does Morph, but Jean can make a lookalike Hulk seem to have hulk-like strength by applying her telekinesis.
I don't think psychological manipulation should be a part of Morph's playbook. They went through immense trauma doing that to the x-men because of Sinister's brainwashing. I don't think that's something they want to do.

Basically, Magneto launched a world-wide EMP with his powers (hence while all electronics including sentineld are now down). However, it also affected the planet’s Ozone layer & its slowly deteriorating(hence the doomsday scenario)
I think a lot of people are missing the idea that both Magneto and Charles are both wrong in different ways. Magneto is correct in the sense of humanity not willing to be accept mutants fully and that Charles’ overall dream is too far away to accomplish. But him doing the EMP thing, while understandable to protect mutants, is undeniably hurting people. Just blindly saying “Magneto is right” and thinking everything he does is entirely justifiable isn’t correct imo. Charles is correct all people need to be protected and helped, but isn’t willing to accept that fundamentally, at least at this current point in the timeline, humanity isn’t going to be able to coexist with mutants, a place like Genosha or Astroid M is needed and needs to be the priority for mutant kind.
Morph can only mimic PHYSICAL abilities. Won't get mind powers for turning into Jean, won't get magnetic powers by turning into Magneto

Well, it would be better for Beast to fight sentinels. Nightcrawler was needed in the space plan. Wolverine does not do sentinels that well. At least those kind. I think the teams work because the character drama fit perfectly for their situations.

I absolutely cheered when Scott did the black leather joke. This show has its finger on the pulse of the audience and what they can do now that they didn’t want to do 20+ years ago. Love it.

I agree with the limit of Nightcrawler's teleporting abilities, however they did not have the blackbird. They mention that the were going to Muir Island to retrieve Shi'ar tech that would still work regardless of Magneto's powers. Those are the 2 jets they used. The blackbird wouldn't work in the current conditions because it probably needs electricity and there's none.
Well, in some comics they said it's his ability to choose targets that matters. So, if Jean was to guide him he could hit a target he can't see.

My take on it is that either we get the episode we got, where teams are a bit short-sighted and and end up facilitating these one-sided fights, or they do different teams and some very convoluted things occur for the same fights to happen. As you’ve said, they probably planned the wolverine thing first, so I imagine the writers just decided that put him on the path just for simplicity’s sake. And at the end of the day, this is ostensibly meant to be a 90’s era cartoon, so a little bit of contrivance is sort of expected at this point. Especially when it allows cool stuff like this to happen!
People were speculating this finale since episode 7 (Bastion revealed) that they do a Uno reverse card, OZT - onslaught - fatal attraction kind of stuff.
the plan should've been to temporarily reason with Magneto to get him to help take down Bastion, then they could've come to a resolution, not split the team

The build up to Onslaught was so intense and the REVEAL was next level. Him taking out Juggernaut immediately made it feel so high stakes and then the way he takes over New York with patrolling Sentinels made such a fantastic story... if handled well I feel like it can be a banger of a story if they keep it mysteriois for the noncomic readers
In Wolverine and the X-men there is a part where he crosses an ocean but he has to keep teleporting just above the sea over and over. He was pretty exhausted at the end though.

I don't really balme people, his plan was poorly explained, I didn't realize until a rewatch that he was going to destroy earth.
Sinister is manipulating his cells. He can regenerate, doesn’t have to eat, can expand his mind to crazy limits.

FYI: What Magento did. Magnetism affects the flow of electricity. The earth has a small, mostly stable magnetic field. We actually generate electricity by rotating wires in a magnetic field. If Magneto increased the strength of the Earth's magnetic field, our electric devices would short out. It would take days to calibrate private devices, months to get SOME mass produced electricity back, years to get mass produced electronic devices to the market, and then decades to get back to normal.
And even if we adjusted the devices to the new setting there is little stopping Magento playing with dial from hour to hour until everything this side of Shiar tech is not fried.
Usually, the more micro the tech, the more it is affected by magnetic fields. So that is why the prime sentinels are fried, but the old models were easier to adjust to the new setting.
PS - Magneto fields are good for life. They protect atmospheres. But humanity goes back to pre-telegraph steam age.
I personally would not have divided the team. Bastion is a much more serious threat.
But my hypothesis is that Magneto Protocals was sending the Avengers and Fantasic 4 to kill Magneto, and it would have looked bad if Magneto killed the Avengers. And the simple fact is Magneto doesn't have to provide a breathable atmosphere. His whole team can live in space. He can just space them then pick off Susan Storm and Thor. Magneto had the kid gloves on in that fight with the X Men

I've watched the episode a couple times so I'm going to do my best to justify the team comps for the teams, even though I agree they don't really make sense lol.
So, the Bastion team is easier, let's start there.
Forge and Storm are givens. Forge has a huge disadvantage against Magneto, and Storm's powers are much more effective on Earth.
Morph I'm assuming went this way due to wanting to stop Sinister.
Beast makes sense as they need someone to track Bastion's signal to find the guy.
Jean and Cable probably make the least sense, but at the same time they both want revenge on Sinister. I feel like Jean and Scott were intentionally split up to prevent either one of them from doing something stupid if the other got hurt, but obviously Jean used her powers to do so anyways lol. Cyclops wouldn't have stopped the Professor from brain wiping Magneto if he didnt know Jean was in danger, so its really on her in a twisted way 😅.
Okay, now the away team.
Obviously the Professor is going and Scott is there to actually lead the team if things do go to shit. The professor is out of practice and Scott has been the defacto leader for almost the whole season.
Nightcrawler and Jubilee are coming to oppose their friends who joined Magneto's side... Which just leaves Wolverine.
Okay, obviously it's stupid, but you could honestly call Charles's whole plan stupid for thinking Magneto could still be reasoned with. Charles views this as just another of their cat and mouse games when in reality Magneto is going in with no remorse. If you're under the impression that Magneto is still going to be somewhat honorable and not just straight up kill everyone then Wolverine is a decent choice for the sole fact that he's the only member of the team that can be trusted to actually kill Magneto if it comes down to it. Everyone else has their reservations but Wolverine makes it clear in the episode what he thinks needs to be done. And, he does it.
Also, a minor nitpick for the minor nitpick, I'm pretty sure they get the jet FROM Muir island, so they can't use it to fly TO Muir island, unless I missed something. So Nightcrawler's uncharacteristic teleporting length is at least required lol.
I think Jean and Scott need to be split up in order to have any semblance of communication between teams. Any comms they would normally have would have been short circuited in the EMP wave. So because of that, they're using Jean and Scott's psychic link to maintain coordination between teams.
Morph is going for stealth and infiltration (the Sinister play he attempts as an example), and Cable probably for firepower. I don't think anyone really expected Sinister to show up.
7:25 you are noticing the residue of weird details that once were canonical power restrictions and limits being overcome, only to become forgotten over time as stories streamline themselves over the iterations of retelling. Once it was the case that officially Adamantine was a non-magnetic metal, which Magneto could not control as easily as he controls magnetic metals like Iron. At some point Magneto even trained himself to be able to control muscular nerve impulses and the body's em field, enabling him to puppet humans, and fleshy xmen, including wolverine, and he even had Logan stab himself, once, but not because of his metal bones, but just by the em field of his living flesh. But by the time of Failtal Attractions Magneto was able to preform molecular manipulations and even rebuild his own body from plasma, so when Logan tried for a killing slash, Eric did what no one thought he could... and there after, Marvel forgot that Adamantium was non-magnetic all together.
His Hulk was only that strong because Jean was boosting him.
It would have been cool if Nightcrawler was like “if only I could teleport us that far” and Cable was like “Professor, bodyslide by (whatever #)” and half the team was like “Professor!?”, and before anyone can say anything else, boom, the team all appears in Muir Island.

Season 2 HAS to have Kitty and Iceman
The organization of the teams is purely logical (maybe except wolverine but that has an explanation too):
Beast and Forge are in the Gold team because they are both Geniuses of technology, they could be needed to shut down any technology that Bastion has still functioning.
Cable is in the Gold team because he is an expert fighting Sentinels, fighting Nimrod was HIS thing, besides they didn't knew that Sinister was with Bastion there, specially because Sinister is a coward, he would had fleed as soon as Magneto's Black Out happened but he stayed only to get control over Cable (he said it himself).
Charles was in the Blue team because he thought he could convince Magneto without too much violence and he would have basically been useless against Bastion.
Jean was send with the Gold team because they needed a Telepat in each team to keep contact if the things went south and Charles was already in the Blue team.
Kurt would be really useful in both teams but they ultimately send him with Blue team because with Magneto having Rouge's and Roberto's help they would need someone to evade them before getting to Magneto (Besides both Rouge and Roberto knew about the original plan so they wouldn't expect Kurt to be in the Asteroid M) and sending Kurt to fight Rogue would also be helpful, after all he is probably the only one that could convince Rogue to come back to the X-Men side, he was on Genosha too so he is the only one in the team that understands her... And also is her Brother (The Jet was on Muir Island btw)
Jubilee was in the Blue team not only because of Roberto but also because the Magneto mission was suppossed to be the less dangerous one (Magneto was not trying to kill them until Charles controlled him but Bastion was) and Jubilee is still the less experienced of the team (besides Roberto obviously).
Wolverine is the most difficult to explain but even he has an explanation for it. Both Magneto and Charles have some kind of pact of honor or something like that promising to each other to never use their powers to subdue other Mutants (Magneto is specially strong in this belief) so if you notices the only time before Charles brokes that promise that he uses his powers against wolverine is to get him away but not to totally stop him (even in the old show he never controlled him, he only pushed him away), besides Wolverine is the most experienced fighter in all the X-Men and he has a lot of experience fighting against people trying to control him, so having Wolverine in the Blue team was more of a distraction to Magneto than anything, having to focus on Logan instead of in the rest.
I don't think i have to explain why Ciclops, Storm and Morph were on each team, most of them are self explanatory (Storm and Ciclops) or have no explanation because is not needed, they just needed more people in that team (Morph)
Roberto just wanted to get it on with Rogue with 3 of them being the only survivors once Earth dies 😂
All jokes aside, Kurt literally should just teleport…takes helmet…then back to Earth and put the collar on Bastion…even doing the entire mission solo would’ve worked as it wouldn’t alert anyone…world peace baby ✌️

It's my understanding that Nightcrawler doesn't have to see where he's going. He only has to have seen it. Meaning he has to have been in that place before.
Nightcrawler teleports between dimensions in the comics. We've even seen that in this episode when we got the first person POV of him teleporting Wolverine.
He opens a portal, from where he is to the Brimstone Dimension(I think that's what it's called?) and from there to wherever he wants to reappear.
If you're thinking of the issue from X2, I haven't watched the movie in like 15 years, but I think I remember that being the explanation given as to why he was having issues going outside the Blackbird. He hadn't ever been outside in freefall, and he's never given his power a command like "10 feet away from this spot"

The thing about the teams that I was more surprised about was that they send Cyclops, the one person who is known to be able to actually hurt Sinister, to Magneto instead of Sinister
When it comes to the magnetosphere failing. I was under the impression that Magneto changed the magnetoshpere so it would keep the prime sentinels dormant, which prevented normal power transmitting down the power lines. The side effect was the earth was not being protected from cosmic rays and the atmosphere was going to be blown off eventually.
@The Nando Cut, I mentioned in you last video and asked why you're sleeping on the Onslaught saga, it was the logical conclusion, both from the Showrunner's perspective, who made it so obvious for his love of the "Fatal Attractions" storyline but also, Magneto using a magnetic pulse wave is also ripped right out of "Fatal Attractions".
It seems like you might have been too young to have read those 90's comics at the time, because you keep referencing Hickman's run in the early 2000's, which yes, they'll most likely get to. But season 2 should be the Onslaught saga, and if you read those story arcs from the late 90's, it should be painfully obvious to you as well.
Morph trying to get Magneto to stop by transforming into Leech only for Wolverine to kill him with bone claws and the x-men holding a funeral for magneto would be 🤯🤯🤯

My respect for Nando grows with every one of these videos. He's honest and a real fan, and it shows (pretty sure he's the only person I've heard on TH-cam that discusses Bastion's comic backstory as the mess that it is). So I'm always looking forward to these each week.
Agree that this episode felt a little off. Not bad. Just not quite as good. I think we could have used a scene between Magneto and Rogue on Asteroid M to flesh out that location, and Magneto's plan. Overall though, I still loved the heck out of this.
I know Onslaught as a story is basically everything that is wrong with 90's comics. But if they elevated Bastion, they can do the same with Onslaught. And I think they could do a version of AvX alongside Onslaught. This time they could be fighting over the fate of Xavier. Think that would be a great season 2... or Onslaught could slow boil over season 2, the finale could be the battle with Onslaught, and AvX is the aftermath in season 3.

Well the thing about Magneto and Wolverine is that Magneto either didn't ever do that to Wolverine before because there was a certain line he wouldn't cross against other Mutants. So him actually resorting to something like that is meant to be Magneto crossing the line past a point of no return. It can also be theorized that Wolverine stabbing him allowed Magneto to figure out Wolverine's Adamantium down to a molecular level and then could remove it from him, but couldn't prior. Either way you want to look at it. Either Magneto always held back to an extent vs other Mutants and then crossed the line with Wolverine, or Wolverine stabbing him allowed Magneto to figure it out to do what he did.

6:57 Magneto was not at a point where he wanted to kill mutants. His intent up until the stab from Wolverine was not to kill the X-men but to give them an invitation to join his ranks. It was that move from Wolverine that crossed the line and Magneto decided it didnt matter human or mutant, if you are in his way your life is sacrifice.
